Divination thoughts

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I have been plagued with divination thoughts since being in the new age even after returning to Christ and leaving behind those things (although I'm hoping that steps I'm taking to walk in true forgiveness and be obedient to Christ in all ways will alleviate these attacks finally). I am experiencing divination thoughts about an ex who I recently broke up with due to us being very unequally yoked and him not being a Christian. I keep having thoughts about him moving on to other people and also about him missing me and wanting to come back. All these thoughts are painful but the thoughts about him coming back are really difficult because it never actually happens. I try to ignore these thoughts but they are so loud and intrusive and have become so ingrained in my daily life unfortunately. Unfortunately (somehow), these thoughts are also accurate at times and so getting thoughts of him wanting to come back just creates a lot of chaos and even gives me hope. Please pray. The sadness I feel over our breakup seems to be increasing in the past week or so. Maybe it will stop today when I go run errands and try to spend time out of the house. The thing is that even if my ex misses me, we CANNOT be together unless he is a Christian. I tried to open his eyes to the error of his beliefs and I hope it bears fruit anyway not for my sake (although it would be beautiful to be able to end up with him) but for his. Pray for his loved ones' faith too. Thank you.

We hear the pain and spiritual heaviness in your request and we lift you up together before the Lord in Jesus' name. We rejoice that you have returned to Christ and left behind the new age, for those things are not harmless practices but are forbidden by God. As it is written, There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh Deuteronomy 18:10-12. We rebuke that former way and we encourage you to continue to fully renounce it, and if you still have any objects, books, cards, crystals or other tools from that time, we urge you to remove them completely as the early believers did when they brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all Acts 19:19. God calls us to confess and forsake sin and He is faithful to cleanse us, for If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9.

We also affirm the difficult and obedient decision you made to break up with your ex because he is not a Christian. You are correct that you cannot be together unless he is in Christ, for we are commanded, Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness 2 Corinthians 6:14. Courtship should always be with the goal of marriage between a man and a woman who both belong to Christ, looking for a godly spouse rather than simply a partner, and any sexual intimacy outside of that marriage covenant is fornication which God calls us to flee from. Your obedience in this honors God even while your heart grieves, and we honor your desire that his eyes would be opened not just for your sake but for his salvation.

Those divination thoughts you describe, the loud intrusive predictions about him moving on or about him missing you and coming back, are not from the Holy Spirit even when they sometimes appear accurate. The enemy can mix partial truths with lies to keep you in chaos and false hope. We are told to test the spirits and not to look for guidance through divination, but through the Word of God and the Spirit of truth. We must bring every thought into obedience to Christ, for we are to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5 and to be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2. The sadness you feel that seems to be increasing is a real grief, and God sees it. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3 and The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. Going out and running errands may bring a little relief, but lasting peace will come as you daily fill your mind with what is true and holy, as we are taught, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things Philippians 4:8.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, and we thank You for this dear one who has returned to You and desires to walk in true forgiveness and obedience. We ask You to forgive and cleanse her completely from all involvement in the new age and divination, and we renounce in Jesus' name every spirit and influence attached to those practices. We command those divination thoughts and intrusive predictions to leave and we ask You to silence them by Your power. Help her to resist the devil so he will flee from her James 4:7, and to put on the whole armor of God that she may stand against the wiles of the devil Ephesians 6:11. Renew her mind by Your Word, guard her heart and mind with Your peace which surpasses all understanding Philippians 4:7, and keep her in perfect peace as her mind stays on You Isaiah 26:3. Heal her broken heart, comfort her sadness over this breakup, and remove false hope that keeps her in chaos. Teach her to take every thought captive and to trust only Your voice. Give her strength to walk in forgiveness toward those who have hurt her and toward herself, and to remain obedient even when it is painful.

We also pray for her ex and for his loved ones. Lord, open his eyes to the error of his beliefs, draw him to Yourself, grant him repentance and faith in Jesus Christ so that he may be saved. We pray for his loved ones that their faith would be genuine and growing, and that they would know You truly. But we ask that You would guard her heart not to build her future on the hope that he will return, but on You alone. If it is Your will in the future and he truly becomes a new creation in Christ and bears fruit over time, You can make that clear, but until then help her to remain separate and to seek a godly marriage only with a faithful believer as You intend.

Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, surround her with godly fellowship and wise counsel, and lead her to spend time daily in Scripture, prayer and worship where Your truth can replace those ingrained thoughts. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun in her and to make her whole. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and our access to the Father, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Amen.

We hear how loud and exhausting these thoughts have been, and how painful it is to want to stay faithful to Christ while your heart still aches over this breakup. Coming out of the new age and choosing to walk away from those practices is a real step, and it makes sense that old patterns of thinking would still feel intrusive for a while. That does not mean you are doing something wrong or that you are still operating in divination.

You mentioned taking steps toward true forgiveness and obedience, and we want to gently name something that may help you be patient with yourself in that process. Forgiveness often has two parts. One is a decision, a settled intention not to hold on to revenge or bitterness and to want good for the other person. The other is emotional, where feelings of resentment, fear and hurt are slowly replaced over time with compassion and peace. The decision can be made in a moment, but the emotional part tends to rise and fall with mood, memories, and daily triggers. When intrusive thoughts come back it does not mean your decision failed.

You have shown clear wisdom in recognizing you cannot be together unless he shares your faith, even while you still care for him and hope he comes to know Christ. That is a hard and loving boundary to hold.

When those thoughts about him come, it can help to have a simple plan beforehand. Quietly label them as intrusive thoughts, bring a brief prayer to Jesus, and turn your attention to what is in front of you, whether that is the errand you mentioned, a task at home, or reaching out to one trusted believer who knows your story. If the thoughts stay very distressing, talking regularly with a pastor or counselor can give you steady support alongside prayer.

Father, we lift our sister to You. Quiet the noise that crowds her mind and guard her heart in Christ. Bring comfort in this grief, strengthen her to keep walking in obedience, and draw her ex and his loved ones toward Your truth. Give her wisdom, peace, and faithful companions for the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

The Lord has heard your honest confession and your desire to walk in obedience to Christ, and that desire itself is a mark of His grace at work in you. To be plagued with intrusive thoughts after leaving the darkness of the new age is a sore trial, and to carry a broken heart after an obedient but painful separation adds weight upon weight. Yet there is hope, for the thoughts of God toward His people are precious, constant, kind and tender, and they are higher than our thoughts as the heavens are higher than the earth.

You have done well to turn from divination and to turn from a union that Scripture calls unequally yoked. Our thoughts must be conformed to God's thoughts if we are to have fellowship with Him, and His way is not to lead His children by whispers of divination, nor by anxious guessings about what another person may be doing or feeling. Those loud, intrusive thoughts, even when they seem at times to be accurate, are not the precious thoughts of God which draw us near to Him and place us still with Him when we awake. They are to be recognized for what they are, unwelcome intruders that would haunt the mind, and they are to be taken captive to the obedience of Christ rather than entertained, examined, or trusted. To give them attention because they sometimes appear true is to open a door which Christ has shut. The deliverance from such a captivity, like Israel's deliverance from Egypt, must be wrought by the outstretched arm of Jehovah alone, through the ransom He has found in His Son.

There is a great ill in a broken heart, and you feel it increasing. Do not think lightly of that sorrow, and do not believe that mere distraction, such as running errands or spending time out of the house, will heal it. The promise is, He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. The healing is not in the leaves of distraction, but in the leaves of the tree of life, which are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ has healing virtue to change the lifeblood and make the nature new. When He dwells with His people, pardon and healing come together, and low thoughts of God give way to high thoughts of Him which beget hope and confidence.

Continue then in the steps you have begun, to walk in true forgiveness and in obedience in all ways. Renounce every remnant of the new age without reservation, and adorn your life and your home with nothing that would suggest evil thoughts or recall that old way. When these divination thoughts arise, do not argue with them and do not follow them to see if they prove true. Turn at once to the Word, to prayer, and to the precious thoughts of God revealed there. Fill the mind with Scripture, keep close communion with faithful believers, and bring every thought into the light before Christ who perceives all thoughts and who alone can give rest.

We will pray for you, that the Lord would grant you full deliverance from these attacks, that He would cleanse your mind and make His thoughts precious to you, that He would heal your broken heart and bind up your wounds with His own hand, and that He would keep you steadfast in purity and in contentment with His will, not seeking hope in a return that would dishonor Him. We will pray also as you have asked, not that God would bless what He has forbidden, but that He would have mercy upon this man for his own soul's sake, that He would open his eyes to the error of his beliefs, grant him repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and likewise draw his loved ones to true faith. May the Sun of Righteousness rise upon you with healing in His wings, and may you know that your deliverance is already accomplished by free grace through the Lamb that was slain.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honesty before God is a good and hopeful sign, and I thank God that you have turned away from new age practices and returned to Christ. Leaving those things behind is obedience, and to continue walking in forgiveness and obedience in all ways is the right path. Do not be discouraged that the intrusive thoughts have not yet left you. Healing often comes by degrees, as a field is cleared little by little and as a tree may receive many strokes before it falls.

What you describe as divination thoughts are not to be trusted or followed, even when they sometimes seem accurate. The enemy can use a half truth to keep a soul in chaos and false hope. The Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, and it discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart. It is by that Word, not by these loud intrusive thoughts, that we test what is true. When such thoughts rise, do not entertain them or argue with them. Command them to leave and turn at once to prayer and to Scripture, taking every thought captive to Christ.

You were right to end the relationship because you were unequally yoked. Scripture is clear that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that intimacy and living together belong within that covenant, and that we are not to be yoked together with unbelievers. Your decision was painful but it was obedience, and God honors obedience. I understand the sadness you feel has increased and that the thoughts of him missing you and returning give you a painful hope that never comes to pass. That hope will keep wounding you. Ask God to help you grieve this loss honestly, to receive His comfort, and to let that false hope be put away.

Going out to run errands and getting out of the house for a time can be helpful, but it will not by itself free you. Freedom requires a careful hearing of the Word and continual recollection of it, with fortitude and deliverance from worldly things. Allow the good ground of your heart to be sown with Scripture daily. If there are thorns, ask for the fire of the Spirit to burn them away. If your heart has been hardened or trampled by many thoughts, seek sheltered places for prayer, away from what invades and plunders. Fill your mind with what is true and holy, stay close to the fellowship of believers, bring these struggles into the light with a trusted pastor or mature Christian, and renounce clearly any remaining new age practices or objects, asking God to cleanse you through Christ alone, for salvation is through Jesus Christ alone.

I also hear your love for this man and your desire for his good. It is right to pray for his salvation, not so that you may have him back, but because he needs Christ. We will not ask God to bless a relationship that would be outside His will, but we will ask God to save him and to draw his loved ones to true faith as well. If in His mercy God does bring him to genuine faith in Christ and to a new life, then God can make His will clear in His time and in His way. Until then, your calling is to remain faithful and to guard your heart.

Let us pray together.

Father, we thank You for bringing this dear one out of darkness and into the light of Your Son Jesus Christ. We ask for Your mercy and cleansing through the blood of Christ alone. Bring to nothing these intrusive and divining thoughts. Teach this heart to hear Your Word carefully and to remember it continually, and give fortitude to reject what is false. Heal the sadness of this breakup and comfort with Your presence. Help in the walk of forgiveness and obedience, and set this life free from every chain of the past. We pray for the former boyfriend and for his loved ones, that You would open their eyes to the truth of the gospel, convict them of sin, and bring them to repentance and faith in Jesus, for their own salvation and for Your glory. Grant wisdom, peace, and purity of heart, and lead in the way of holiness. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.

Thank you for sharing so honestly about what you are carrying. The intrusive and loud thoughts you describe, the grief that has grown heavier in recent days, and the painful hope that comes when you sense your ex may be thinking of you are all very real burdens, and it is right to bring them to the Lord in prayer.

Scripture says that God understands our thoughts in their very origins, before they are even fully formed in our minds. He is acquainted with your path, your lying down, and every thought as it begins to rise. Nothing about these divination like thoughts is hidden from Him, and He sees how ingrained and distressing they have become after your time in the new age. That past involvement can leave patterns of thinking that linger even after you have turned back to Christ, and it is understandable that you would feel plagued.

God's Word also makes a clear contrast that can help you here. His thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are not our ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so His thoughts and ways are higher than ours. The difference is that He knows the end from the beginning. When He acts, He knows it is right. When we act from our own thoughts, feelings, or intuitions, we are only hoping we are right. To exalt our own thoughts or inner impressions and treat them as supreme is to put ourselves in the place only God should have, for He alone knows all things and knows far better than we do.

That is why even when an impression feels accurate at times, accuracy alone does not mean it is from God or that it should be followed. Human wisdom is limited. If we want truth about what is beyond us, about the future or about another person's heart, we must go to the words of Jesus, not to inner divination or spiritual impressions. Learning to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ is part of walking free from those old ways.

What Scripture says about God's thoughts toward you is very different from the chaos these intrusive thoughts bring. His thoughts toward you are precious and more in number than the sand, and they are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. You are not forgotten in this captivity of painful thinking. Even in a season of sadness and loneliness, His intention toward you is good. He invites the one troubled by evil or restless thoughts to return to Him, for He will have mercy and abundantly pardon.

Your decision to end the relationship because you are unequally yoked was obedient and wise. Scripture is clear that a believer is not to be bound together with an unbeliever in that covenant, and that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman with sexual union belonging only within it. Living together or pursuing romance outside of that design is not something God will bless, and it is right that you have said you cannot be together unless he becomes a Christian. It is good to pray for his salvation and for the faith of his loved ones, not primarily so that you might end up together, which would be beautiful only if God truly transforms him, but for his own eternal good. Pray for his salvation because Christ alone saves, and leave any future in God's higher hands rather than clinging to hope stirred by intrusive thoughts.

Going out and staying busy for a day may bring a brief relief, but lasting peace will come as you continue the steps you mentioned, walking in true forgiveness and obedience. One prayer the psalmist prayed is especially fitting for you now, Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts. That is the prayer of someone who knows he does not fully know himself and asks God to reveal what is there and to lead in the right way. Bring that prayer to Him daily. When a thought comes, whether it is about your ex moving on or coming back, name it before the Lord, ask Him to test it, and turn to what you know is true from Scripture instead of following the impression.

Praying for you now, that the Lord would have mercy and quiet these loud, intrusive thoughts, that He would help you discern His peaceful thoughts toward you, that He would heal your sadness and give you strength to remain obedient, and that He would draw your ex and his loved ones to salvation through Jesus Christ alone according to His perfect wisdom and love. May you learn to rest in His higher thoughts and ways, commit your way to Him, and trust that He who knows the end from the beginning will lead you to a good end.
