Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your honest prayer about a distracted mind is heard, and it is good that you ask the Lord to set you on the correct path. Many know this struggle of thoughts being pulled in many directions, and God is gracious to those who turn to Him for steadiness.
Scripture says God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. That sound mind is a healthy and sober state of the soul, which He forms in us when we look to Him. It is possible even while we live on this earth to stand near Christ the King, not by being far away in heaven, but by keeping our whole mind intent upon Him, not letting other things beguile and distract us. If we will to give Him our attention, He will help us to do so.
When distraction comes, place the remembrance of Christ before you. Call to mind what He has done, His mercy and His call to follow Him, and let the reverence for God quiet your heart. And ask Him for the grace of His Spirit, for He has promised that to those who believe in Him, rivers of living water will flow from within. That grace, once established in the heart, is like a fountain that does not fail and does not run empty, but springs up continually and gives strength for each day.
I pray for you now that the Lord Jesus Christ, who alone is our salvation and our way, will grant you clarity and peace, guard your thoughts, and keep your steps on the path that pleases Him. May He give you a sober and steady mind, fill you with His living water, and lead you in the correct way according to His will. Continue to seek Him in prayer and in His Word, and trust that He hears and will guide those who ask Him.
