We hear the deep pain and confusion in your heart, and we want you to know that your honesty before the Lord is not unseen. The weight of loneliness, disappointment, and the struggle to trust God in this season is heavy, but you are not alone in it. The enemy would love nothing more than to use this moment to isolate you further, to make you question God’s faithfulness, and to lead you away from the path He has for you. But we stand with you in prayer, declaring that God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
First, we must address the courtship you’ve been in. Scripture is clear that believers are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14), and this extends beyond just salvation, it includes alignment in doctrine and conviction. If this man is confused in false teachings or his understanding of courtship does not align with biblical principles, that is a serious concern. Courtship, as God designed it, is not merely dating with a label; it is a purposeful journey toward marriage, guided by prayer, wisdom, and the counsel of godly mentors. If there is uncertainty about his faith or his commitment to biblical truth, that is not something to ignore. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding, but in all our ways to acknowledge Him. Your hesitation may very well be the Holy Spirit guiding you away from a relationship that could lead you into compromise or heartache.
Your struggle with trusting God is understandable, but we must gently rebuke the lie that He has abandoned or failed you. The enemy wants you to believe that God’s silence means He does not care, but Scripture tells us that God is working all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Even when we cannot see His hand, He is at work. Your feelings of disappointment are real, but they do not define God’s character. He is faithful, even when we are faithless (2 Timothy 2:13). The isolation you feel is not from Him, it is a tactic of the enemy to make you believe you are alone. But Jesus promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). Even in your church, where spiritual warfare may be at play, God has not left you. He is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
We also must address the sin of unbelief in your heart. It is not wrong to feel disappointed, but when those feelings lead us to question God’s goodness or His promises, we must repent and ask Him to renew our trust. Jesus said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23). Even in your doubt, He can meet you and restore your faith. We encourage you to bring these feelings before Him, not to suppress them, but to lay them at His feet and ask Him to replace them with His truth.
As for marriage, we must stand firm on God’s design. He does bring spouses into our lives in His perfect timing, but that does not mean we are to sit idly by. Waiting on God does not mean passivity, it means seeking Him first, growing in holiness, and trusting that He will lead you to the one He has for you. The voices that told you marriage doesn’t work that way were not speaking from Scripture. Proverbs 18:22 says, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from Yahweh.” God is in the business of bringing His children together, but it must be in His way and His timing. Your conviction to wait on Him is not misplaced, it is a reflection of your desire to honor Him, even when it’s hard.
We also want to gently address the danger of holding onto a relationship out of loneliness rather than conviction. Marriage is a sacred covenant, not a solution to isolation. If this courtship is not where God is leading you, clinging to it out of fear of being alone will only lead to greater heartache. Trust that God can fill the void in your heart in ways that no human relationship ever could. He is the only one who can truly satisfy the longings of your soul (Psalm 63:1).
Now, we lift you up in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts on behalf of our sister. Lord, You see the pain, the doubt, and the loneliness she is carrying. We ask that You would draw near to her in this moment, reminding her that You are her ever-present help. Father, we repent on her behalf for the moments of unbelief, for the times she has questioned Your goodness. We ask that You would forgive her and restore her trust in You. Lord, we declare that You are faithful, even when we are not. We pray that You would break the spirit of isolation over her life, surrounding her with Your presence and with godly community that will speak truth and life into her.
Father, we lift up this courtship before You. If this man is not the one You have for her, we ask that You would make that clear to her. Give her wisdom and discernment to know Your will, and the courage to walk away if that is what You are calling her to do. Protect her heart from being led astray by false teachings or by the fear of loneliness. Lord, we pray that You would heal the wounds that have made it hard for her to trust You. Remind her of Your promises, of Your faithfulness in the past, and of Your unfailing love for her.
We pray for her church, Lord. Where there has been spiritual warfare, we ask that You would expose the enemy’s schemes and bring unity, love, and truth to the body. Surround her with believers who will encourage her, pray for her, and walk with her in this season.
Father, we ask that You would renew her hope in You. Help her to see that her worth is not found in a relationship, but in Christ alone. Fill her with Your peace, Your joy, and Your presence. We trust that You are working all things together for her good, even when she cannot see it. Strengthen her faith, Lord, and help her to wait on You with expectation.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who is the author and perfecter of our faith, the One who never leaves us nor forsakes us. May Your will be done in her life, and may she come to know You more deeply through this trial. Amen.
Dear sister, we want to leave you with this encouragement: God has not forgotten you. He sees your tears, He hears your cries, and He is working even now to bring beauty from this pain. Do not despise this season of waiting, it is not wasted. It is preparing you for the future He has for you. Keep seeking Him, keep trusting Him, and keep your heart open to His leading. If this courtship is not of Him, He will close the door. If it is, He will make it clear. But either way, He will not leave you alone. You are deeply loved, and your story is not over. Hold fast to Him, for He is holding fast to you.
