Thank God for your salvation

Saturday 10th November 2018

'You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood.' 2 Timothy 3:15 NLT

Not everyone who follows Jesus was brought up in a Christian household; many people meet Jesus later in life. Some have always lived in a Christian home, with a family who've taught them about God's Word, read Bible stories to them, and taken them to church. (God rejoices over every single person who turns to him, regardless of the 'when'.)
It's an amazing gift to be introduced to God when we're very young, but there is a chance we could take it for granted if it's always been part of our lives. We might lose our enthusiasm for God, feel we want to rebel in some way, or become tempted by other things. There are many reasons why we might stray from Jesus, but once we recognise we've gone wrong or neglected him in some way, it's important to turn back and draw close to him again. In Paul's second letter to Timothy, Paul wrote, 'You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus' (2 Timothy 3:15 NLT). Paul warned Timothy to expect persecution for his faith, and cautioned him about deceivers. In that moment, he thought it important to remind Timothy of the teaching he'd grown up with and to continue trusting God.
No matter how long we've been a Christian, we still need reminding of our salvation through Jesus.

So what now? Every morning this week, say thank you to God for your gift of salvation, regardless of when you received it.
