The Battle for Bread
Lions Lacking — But the Children Satisfied
Martyrs of the Kitchen
We hear your heart and we stand with you in this overwhelming and frustrating battle, and we understand why you see the enemy's hand in these deliberate delays and confusion. The timing of that call, the knowledge of your appointment and your other number, and the stalling of urgent care when you may be facing cancer feels like more than incompetence, it feels like injustice and spiritual opposition. We want you to know that God sees every detail and He is not indifferent to this injustice.

Scripture tells us to be sober and self-controlled, for your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, 1 Peter 5:8, and that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, Ephesians 6:12. The enemy comes to steal your peace, to kill your hope, and to destroy your trust through systems and delays, as Jesus said the thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly, John 10:10. We rebuke that spirit of confusion, delay, and discouragement in the name of Jesus Christ, and we declare that it has no authority over your life, your health, or your peace.

We also hear your cry for Jesus to take this higher up, and we rejoice that you called on His name, for He is our highest advocate. There is no higher authority than our God who sits on the throne. We do not wrestle alone, for God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, Psalm 46:1. We are told in Philippians 4:6-7 to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And we cling to His promise, Fear you not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness, Isaiah 41:10. Even when systems fail, we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose, Romans 8:28.

We encourage you to continue to contend both spiritually and practically. Spiritually, put on the full armor of God daily, pray without ceasing, and cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7. Do not let frustration give the enemy a foothold through bitterness or despair. Practically, we encourage you to document every call with dates, times, and names, to ask your doctor's office for a patient advocate or case manager to intervene with the insurance, to file a formal appeal and an expedited review due to the urgent nature of the possible diagnosis, and to ask if there is a way to escalate to a supervisor or external review. God can use these very practical steps as His provision.

We pray together now for you.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne of grace in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up Your servant who is weary, frustrated, and overwhelmed. Lord, You see the injustice and the stalling, You know the urgency of this medical need and the fear of what may be cancer. We ask You to take this higher up, to Your throne, and to intervene where earthly systems have failed. We rebuke the enemy's tactics to delay, discourage, and destroy, and we ask You to break through every barrier of bureaucracy and confusion. Let Your favor open doors that no man can shut, move the hearts of providers and insurance workers to act with urgency and integrity, and provide a clear path to treatment without further delay. Touch this body with Your healing hand, for You forgive all our iniquities and heal all our diseases, Psalm 103:3, and give wisdom to every doctor involved. Fill Your servant with Your supernatural peace that surpasses all understanding, guard the heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and remind us that You will never leave us nor forsake us. Strengthen faith where it is weary and let Your justice and mercy be seen in this situation. We ask all of this in the powerful and saving name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and healer, amen.

We have been thinking about your note and how heavy this waiting has been. To need urgent answers about possible cancer and then have calls come at the wrong time to the wrong number would leave anyone frustrated and worn down. It is understandable you feel overwhelmed by a system that feels like it is stalling when you need care quickly.

We want to walk with you in this and also encourage you to keep close to your medical team while you seek answers, even when the process is discouraging. You do not have to navigate the insurance maze alone.

One thing that often helps in these situations is having an advocate alongside you. You could ask your clinic if they have a patient navigator, social worker, or case manager who can help contact the insurer and document what is needed. If that is not available, a trusted family member or friend can help keep a simple written log of each call, the date, time, name of the person you spoke with, and what was promised, and help you make a written request to member services to review the urgency. Keeping that clear record makes it easier for someone with influence to step in for you.

Father, we lift this dear one to You in Jesus name. You see the worry, the frustration, and the need for timely care. Grant wisdom for each phone call and appointment, bring helpers who will advocate well, and give peace and strength for each day as You guide the next steps. Amen.

Your words have come before us burdened with fear and weariness, and my heart is moved with tender compassion for you in this sore trial. To be tossed to and fro by appointments and calls that seem timed to fail, to feel that those who should help you are stalling while so weighty a matter as this sickness hangs over you, is indeed distressing. Fear is always distressing and whether it is the fear of outward danger or fear of inward trouble, it is a terrible thing to go mourning because of being afraid. And to be afraid too is always a weakening thing.

You speak of injustice and of being overwhelmed and disappointed, and well you may, for you stand where many have stood, pressed on every side. Yet hear the word which the Lord gives to such as you are, What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee. That is the Psalmist's resolve, and it must be yours. When you cannot trust the system, when you cannot trust the provider, when you cannot trace the hand that orders these appointments, you may still trust Him who never misses His appointed hour.

You have asked that Jesus would take this higher up. Be assured He has already taken your cause into a higher court than any earthly appeal. In the court of Heaven's justice we may say, Thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul, Thou hast redeemed my life. Christ has prevalently pleaded the cause of His people and you are not forgotten in His intercession. The God who is infinitely just will by no means wink at iniquity, and He who sees every particle of what is done amiss will vindicate righteousness in His own time. Though earthly justice seems slow and the sword seems still in its scabbard, the Lord reigns and He will not suffer His servants to be finally trampled by wrong.

And as to this sickness which now so alarms you, remember that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Word whom God has sent for the healing of poor sick souls. He said to the palsied man, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee, and pardon and healing were one in His hand. Low thoughts of God create doubts and bondage, but high thoughts of God beget hope, and hope leads to confidence. God lays no punishment on those who have accepted Jesus as their Substitute, for He has borne the whole of their punishment. Cast yourself then at the foot of His cross and cling to it, for there is your only hope, your shelter and your shield. Cry from your very soul, God be merciful to me a sinner, and God will hear you and have mercy upon you.

Therefore fear not, for the angel's word still sounds, Fear not. Not next to God, but God Himself in Christ Jesus was born and lived and died as we also do, that He might be touched with the feeling of our infirmities. Slavish fear stirs us to resist, but childlike fear brings us to trust and to obey out of love to Him.

We will plead with the Lord for you, that He would grant you His peace which passes understanding, that He would move the hearts of those in authority to act with promptness and equity, and that He would lay His healing hand upon your body according to His perfect will. We will ask Him to give you wisdom and strength to press this matter further, to seek an advocate, to keep a faithful record of every call and appointment, and to appeal to those higher in authority until justice is done, for it is right to seek what is just and to use every lawful means He has placed within your reach.

Dwell not long upon the sterner dealings of men, but dwell long upon Christ. Read His Word diligently, for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God, and it is the Word applied by the Holy Spirit that heals the sin sick soul and quiets the troubled heart. May the Lord strengthen your weak hands and confirm your feeble knees, and bring you out of darkness and the shadow of death, that you may yet praise Him for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men.

We bear you upon our hearts before the throne of grace, praying that you may be kept in perfect peace, your mind stayed upon Him, and that whether in waiting or in healing you may find Christ to be your all in all.
