Devils sabotages

You call these delays the work of devils, but consider: do you not close your own ears and eyes when impatience makes your heart fat? The first loss is not the time or the taxi, but the calm of a soul that trusts in the Master who commands the winds and the sea. When the disciples heard His call, they did not say, "Let us first finish our fishing, or settle our accounts." They forsook all at once and followed. Is your journey so great a matter that you must let every small hindrance rob you of that ready obedience to God's providence?

This driver, like many, seeks his own profit. You ask that his heart be softened. It is a good prayer, for a softened heart sees beyond coin and convenience. But while you pray for him, do not let your own heart grow hard with vexation. The unbelief of men often comes from a soul made soft by drinking and eating what it wishes, expecting only ease, and scoffing at any obstacle. Do not be such a person. When Christ delayed healing the woman, He did so to show her constancy and to let her faith shine brighter. This delay of yours, small though it may be, could be for your own greater good if you bear it without murmuring.

You speak of devils sabotaging, but forget that nothing assails you without permission. When Paul was bound, the disciples grew bolder. Your very setbacks can make your trust more visible to the scoffing world, for a faithful soul does not fall apart when an ATM is far or when a driver breaks his word. The saints of old, just by the spots where they sat or were imprisoned, stir our souls to virtue. Let your own patience in this village, without malls or easy machines, become such a witness. You are the salt of that little place, not for your own comfort, but to season the hearts of those who see you.

Pray for the driver, yes, but also examine yourself. Is your irritation not a greater snare than his greed? The words that offend you are not the real trouble; it is your own slothful reaction to a trial. The disciples, when others grumbled, clung to Christ and said, "To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." Hold to that. Let your true shopping be for the food that endures, and your true ATM be the treasury of heaven, where no ill-timed arrival can block your withdrawal of mercy. Go now in peace, and let your first word to that driver be one of calm, so that seeing your unshaken spirit, he may marvel and be softened without a single harsh word from you.

The frustration you are feeling is real, and the enemy loves to use such moments to unsettle our hearts. But do not let this situation convince you that you are alone or unheard. The Lord is not distant, and He is certainly not surprised by a delayed arrival, a stubborn driver, or the ATM being far away. He is the same God who delivered His people from the swarms of Egypt time and again, not because they deserved it, but because He is merciful and mighty to save.

Cry out to Him about this driver, just as Moses cried out when the frogs and flies were devouring the land. Ask the Lord to deal with the man’s heart. The driver may be hard and looking only to his own profit, but no heart is beyond God’s reach. Whether the man relents or not, the Lord can still clear the path ahead of you. Your help does not come from the shifting moods of people or from your own frantic planning; your help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He knows you need to get your shopping done. He knows you need cash. He is not limited by your village having no mall or ATM machine. He can supply your need through means you have not yet considered.

While you wait and pray, guard your own heart. It is tempting to let a cutting spirit or anxiety take over when you are treated unfairly and when your plans unravel. That is the flesh rising up, and it will only steal your peace. Keep your mind anchored in Christ. The driver’s arrogance and the delay are not your ultimate authority. Keep your mind on the Spirit, and you will find life and peace even in the chaos. Remember that Jesus was never insensitive to physical needs, yet He never panicked either. He trusted the Father completely, and His peace was unshakable.

The journey feels uphill right now, and the end seems further away than ever. But the Lord has delivered you from the hand of the enemy before, and He will do it again. This small, frustrating episode is not a sign that He has abandoned you. It is an opportunity to rehearse His faithfulness yet again, so that later you can tell of His goodness. Do not let a hard heart win, whether it is the driver’s or your own. Entrust this to the Lord, ask for His intervention, and then walk in the calm assurance that He is already making a way where there seems to be none.

It must have been incredibly frustrating to encounter not just one, but two drivers whose hearts seemed hardened by selfishness and pride—especially when you had made arrangements in advance and were already dealing with delays. We prayed fervently that the Lord would soften the heart of that second driver, that He would remind him of kindness and integrity, and that He would protect you from the enemy’s attempts to sabotage your journey. We asked the Holy Spirit to intervene, to open doors where they seemed closed, and to provide you with the peace and practical help you needed to complete your shopping and access your funds safely.

If the Lord has already moved in this situation—if the driver’s attitude changed, if you were able to resolve things peacefully, or if God provided another way for you to accomplish what you needed—we would love to hear your praise report. Let us rejoice with you and give glory to our Father for His faithfulness!

The enemy may try to discourage or delay, but we know that our God is greater, and His purposes for you will prevail.
