Praying for a desire for healthy social interactions, and not desire wrong things and be loved, accepted in the Lord and stop and not rely on or trust in people. Not need attention, pity, glory in misery and spiritual attacks. For increased faith. For forgiveness, mercy and grace from the Lord, to do right, reparations, restoration, provision, to be discreet, appropriate and have discretion. And let my heart be for the Lord and not people, myself or for desperate need for approval of man.

We hear your heart’s cry and stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting these deep longings in prayer. You are not alone in this struggle, many of God’s children wrestle with the pull of unhealthy desires, the ache for acceptance, and the temptation to place trust in people rather than the Lord. But Scripture assures us that He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Let us seek Him together, trusting that He will reshape these desires according to His perfect will.

First, we must address the root of these longings. The desire for love and acceptance is not wrong in itself, God Himself placed it within us, but when we seek these things from people or in ways that dishonor Him, we open the door to idolatry and spiritual attack. Jesus warned, "No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to one and despise the other" (Luke 16:13). If our hearts are set on the approval of man, we cannot fully serve the Lord. This is why we must pray for a holy dissatisfaction with anything less than God’s best.

We also rebuke the lies of the enemy that whisper you are unloved or that your worth depends on others’ opinions. The truth is, you were fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and Christ’s love for you is unshakable. "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39). Your identity is not found in the fleeting approval of man but in being a child of the Most High God.

Now, let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble and contrite hearts, acknowledging that our desires have often been misplaced. We ask You to ignite within us a holy desire for You alone, for Your presence, Your truth, and Your will. Lord, we confess that we have sought love, acceptance, and validation in people rather than in You, and we repent of this idolatry. Forgive us, Father, and cleanse us by the blood of Jesus.

We pray for a transformation of our hearts so that our deepest longing is to please You. Remove from us the need for human attention, pity, or glory in our struggles. Instead, fill us with a hunger for righteousness and a desire to walk in Your ways. Strengthen our faith, Lord, so that we may trust in You alone, knowing that You are our provider, our protector, and our ever-present help in times of trouble.

Father, we ask for Your mercy and grace to cover our past mistakes and for the wisdom to make reparations where we have wronged others. Restore what has been broken, and lead us in paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Teach us to be discreet, to exercise godly discretion, and to walk in a manner worthy of the calling You have placed on our lives.

Above all, let our hearts be fully Yours, Lord. May we seek Your approval alone, knowing that You are the only One who can satisfy the deepest longings of our souls. Help us to love others as You have loved us, not out of desperation or need, but out of the overflow of Your love within us. We surrender our desires, our fears, and our struggles to You, trusting that You will work all things together for our good and Your glory.

In the mighty name of Jesus, who alone is the way, the truth, and the life, we pray. Amen.

Beloved, take heart, God is at work in you, even now. The apostle Paul reminds us, "Being confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6). You are not defined by your struggles or your past mistakes. You are defined by the finished work of Christ on the cross. As you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you (James 4:8). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith, and He will lead you into the abundant life He has promised.

If you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. The Bible tells us, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Surrender your life to Him, and He will give you a new heart and a new spirit (Ezekiel 36:26). This is the first and most important step in aligning your desires with God’s will.

This request resonates because it names something many believers feel but rarely voice so clearly: the exhaustion of living for the approval of others and the deep, honest desire to want what God wants instead. We hear this. Wanting to be loved and accepted isn’t wrong in itself, God made us for connection. The pain and confusion come when that desire becomes the loudest voice in the room, driving us to perform, hide, or cling to attention and pity just to feel seen.

One thing that helps us re-center is not just trying harder to stop wanting the wrong things, but giving our attention to something bigger. Worship, both gathered with the church and in the quiet of daily life, has a way of pulling our focus off ourselves. When we turn our gaze toward God, really toward Him, not toward how we’re being perceived, our desperate need for human approval begins to lose its grip. We start to notice it less, not because we’ve conquered it, but because something truer has captured our heart.

So this week, when you feel that old pull toward performing for people or sinking into the comfort of pity, try shifting your posture in the moment. Step away, even for a minute, and turn your attention to who God is. Lift your heart toward Him. It isn’t a quick fix, but it’s a genuine path back to steadiness.

Lord, we come before You with this ache for approval laid bare. Be merciful. Forgive where we have trusted in people more than in You. Quiet our restless need to be noticed, and build in us a deeper faith that rests in being fully known by You. Let our hearts belong to You, not to the shifting opinions of others or our own self-focus. Grant us the discretion and restoration we long for, through Jesus Christ alone. Amen.

The very fact that you cry out for a desire for healthy social interactions and a heart turned from the desperate need for man’s approval is evidence that the whole-heartedness of God is toward you. He has plans of unfailing love, determined in the council chamber of eternity, to lead and sanctify and perfect His people. Your longing for forgiveness, mercy, and grace from the Lord shows He has begun the work of cleansing. Remember, the God of all grace visits His people at the first when they are in this terrible condition! He has provided the means, the fountain opened in Christ’s side, and He Himself applies it. It is as much a miracle of His grace to give you faith to believe that cleansing as it was to provide the Savior in whom you believe.

You speak of not relying on or trusting in people, of refusing the glory of misery and the poison of needing attention and pity. This is the appointed warfare of every man upon earth. Slavish fear of man brings out everything that is of the man rather than the child of God. But consider: a man of God alone with God declares his ways to the Lord and hears His voice. The Christian makes much of God and God makes much of him, for they have a mutual delight in one another. Your heart’s cry to stop trusting in the arm of flesh and to find acceptance in the Lord is the Spirit’s own pleading. Without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing unto God, but the way of acceptance is first that the man is accepted, and then what he does is accepted. You are brought in as meritorious and accepted in the sight of God through the plea of the Beloved! You need not labor to be saved in your own strength or by man’s approval; that is to act in distinct opposition to the Lord. To trust in Jesus Christ is to be well-pleasing to God.

Pray for increased faith and for discretion, for appropriate and sober conduct. This is lawful and good. He who believes in God sees God in all the good or ill that checkers life. The man of God who has borne his testimony experimentally speaks to men of what he has known of the Lord. Yet let your public testimony spring from private communion. Pleading the cause of Christ is the lifework of the Christian, but beware of the gilded idol called charity that lets truth fall in the streets. Your desire for restoration, provision, and to do right is honorable, but remember that Jesus Christ eternally God became Man and suffered in His own person. He hungered, He was tempted, He stood at the brow of the hill. He knows our frame. The glory of your safety and restoration lies in Christ and in Christ alone. We are a people dear to God and near unto Him, but all this lies in Jesus Christ.

Cast away forever the notion that you must glory in misery or spiritual attacks. Adam was afraid and hid himself. Sin makes miserable cowards of us all! But the first word of comfort to expel our fear is this: Jesus who is God is Man also! He has pleaded your cause and you are acquitted. No, more: His essence, His soul is thrown into the work of blessing you. Let your heart be for the Lord and not for people or self. The only possibility of living is living in Christ and unto Christ. Look about and try to live by the wisdom of man and you will starve. Consider how great this Man Christ Jesus is, very God and yet truly Man. For His sake the Lord deals with sinners in long-suffering pity. Rest in Him alone for righteousness, for acceptance, for the daily grace to have discretion and a quiet spirit. The glory of eternal rest, the glory of infinite security, the glory of being like Christ, if you want to know what Heaven is, you can spell it in five letters: Jesus.

Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. Your prayer breathes a holy longing, a soul straining to break free from the snare of human approval and the foul air of self-pity. This is the work of God stirring within you. You seek to be loved and accepted in the Lord, and to cease relying on people. Let us then consider what it is to please God and not men. The Apostle says, "Not as pleasing men, but God, which proveth our hearts." For if we seek the glory that comes from men, we cannot be servants of Christ. Serve, then, not with eye-service as men-pleasers, but with singleness of heart as unto the Lord, doing the will of God from the heart. Make the right action your own, not one of compulsion. When the desire for attention rises, turn the other cheek to that temptation; show that you will not be ruled by it. This is the high philosophy of the soul set free.

You cry out for forgiveness, mercy, and grace. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction. He does not reward you according to your merits, for none could stand, but according to the riches of His mercy. Yet while you trust in that mercy, do not become supine. The same Apostle who received mercy feared lest he himself should be a castaway. Let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. This holy fear is not despair but a safeguard, keeping you from the thorns of vainglory and the devilish custom of glorying in misery.

You desire increased faith, and rightly so: for without faith it is impossible to please Him. Faith is the root of all well-pleasing, for if a man believes that there is a God and a retribution, he will have the reward. Consider Nathanael: he was not reproved for his doubt, but praised, because he examined the Scriptures rather than simply accepting a man's word. So anchor your heart in God's truth, not in the fleeting approval of others. Let your heart be for the Lord, and He will prove it.

Use whatever small talent you have, whether it be ability to repent, to show discretion, or to do good, for the common advantage. Nothing is so pleasing to God as to live for the common good. Put an end, then, to the sickness of attention-seeking and self-pity. Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Bring the self-denial of the desert into your daily life: offer thanksgiving, sing hymns, give heed to temperance. In this way you will find true acceptance, not the hollow nod of men, but the blessed commendation of the Lord who sees in secret. May the grace and love toward man of our Lord Jesus Christ grant you to attain unto the good things to come.

You are longing for something real: a heart turned fully toward the Lord, free from the exhausting pull of seeking approval, attention, or pity from others. That longing itself is a sign that God is already drawing you. The ache for healthier desires and a deeper trust was not born in you by accident. He knows the weariness of leaning on people who can never carry the weight you were made to place on Him alone.

When you find yourself craving human approval or feeling trapped in the cycle of needing attention or wallowing in past hurt, step back and consider whose voice you are listening to. The Scriptures make clear that trusting in man is a shaky foundation. People of high rank or low can become an idol, but they are just shifting shadows. Even our own strength and clever plans fail. But the living God actually wants you to trust Him, not as a distant ruler thundering judgment, but as a Father whose heart is broken when you run to lesser things and so miss what He longs to give.

That desperation for approval often springs from a wrong view of God and a forgetfulness of who you already are in Christ. You mentioned wanting to stop relying on people, yet also feeling the need for love and acceptance. True acceptance is found when you realize you are known by Him, adopted as His own, not because you performed well or were especially lovable, but simply by His sovereign grace. When you let that truth sink in, the frantic need for others to validate you begins to loosen its grip. The glory of your life is not meant to come from your own pitiful efforts to get noticed, but from God alone. And when He defends you or lifts you up, He gets the praise.

You also spoke of wanting increased faith, mercy, and the strength to do right. Faith grows in the soil of knowing God more deeply. How do you know Him? By soaking in what He has revealed about Himself: His mighty acts, His mercy toward the undeserving, His constant faithfulness to those who trusted Him even when they could not see the outcome. Many of His own people in the past were grieved because they did not truly know His ways; they forgot how He had delivered them. You, too, must remember that He is wise and good. He does not always heal or deliver in the way we expect, but He is always working. Even when you cannot trace His hand, you can trust His heart.

Be careful too about the subtle danger of glorying in misery or spiritual attacks. When chastened, a soul can humbly repent and be restored, or it can grow bitter and hardened. God has no pleasure in seeing you stay stuck in unrighteousness or self-pity. His voice is not one of harsh rejection but of heartbroken love, pleading with you to turn and let Him pardon and cleanse. He wants to give you discretion and a quiet, appropriate spirit, not a performance for others’ eyes. That means opening yourself completely to Him with no reserve: “Whatever You have for me, Lord, I need it, I want it.” Such honesty is far more precious than any façade you might show people.

Stop looking back to some past moment when you felt especially close to God, hoping to recreate that feeling. He is not confined to a place or a previous experience. He is calling you into a present walk where you factor Him into every moment, not just in church activities but throughout the ordinary week. Do not merely acknowledge His existence with words; give Him a genuine place in your daily thoughts and decisions. Then the need for human applause will fade, because your soul will be satisfied in the living God who richly supplies all things to enjoy.

Trust Him for the restoration, the provision, and the grace to make things right. Let His mercy wash over you again. Stop defending yourself and let Him be your defender. He has promised to show Himself strong for those whose hearts are completely His. So lift your eyes from the fickle approval of men to the steadfast face of your God, and you will find that He is your salvation and your glory. Hope in Him, and He will become the health of your countenance and your God in truth.
