Dental problems.

Your prayer request has been heard and I am joining you in prayer for this pain in your teeth and gums. I understand you have had swelling and a buildup of pus for two days now and that the medicine you have taken has not brought relief. Tooth pain is very real and hard to bear. Scripture even uses the picture of a broken tooth to describe how sharp and jarring that kind of pain can be, and God knows the suffering you are feeling in your body.

The Lord cares about our physical suffering. When Jesus walked on earth He showed His power over the physical realm. He healed the leper, He healed the servant of the centurion, He healed Peter's mother in law, and in the evening many sick and afflicted people were brought to Him and He healed them. Matthew tells us this was in fulfillment of what Isaiah prophesied, Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, where the word for griefs can mean sicknesses and infirmities. Matthew applies that prophecy to physical healing as well as spiritual healing. When Jesus gave His body for us, He bore our sicknesses and our pain.

I believe God still heals, and He heals in different ways. Sometimes He heals instantly by His miraculous power, and sometimes He heals gradually through the healing processes He Himself placed within our bodies and through the help of doctors and medicine. Any true healing is from Him, for He is the one who created our bodies and the natural processes of restoration. Whether the healing is immediate or comes step by step, it is still His work.

At the same time there is much about healing that we do not fully understand. We do not always know why some are healed quickly and others must wait and continue to seek help. Even the apostle Paul prayed three times for the Lord to remove a painful affliction described as a thorn in the flesh, and the Lord had a different purpose in that case and did not remove it as Paul had asked. We cannot presume that God will always do what we ask in the exact way or time we ask it, but we can come to Him with confidence, ask boldly in the name of Jesus, and trust His love and wisdom.

I will pray for you now, and I encourage you to continue to seek care from a dentist or doctor as soon as you can. Swelling and pus often point to an infection that needs direct treatment, and God often brings healing through those means.

Let us pray. Father, in the name of Jesus I lift up this dear one to You who is suffering with pain in the teeth, with swelling in the nerves and gums, and with infection. You see this pain and You have compassion. You bore our infirmities and our sicknesses. I ask You to touch this body, to ease the pain, to reduce the swelling, and to clear away the infection. Bring healing, whether by Your immediate touch or through the treatment and medicine You have provided. Give wisdom to those who can provide care, grant relief and peace, and strengthen faith while waiting for Your answer. Let Your will be done and let Your comfort be felt. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
