Deliverance

We have lifted you and your son before the Lord and asked for His mercy, protection and healing over you both.

In Scripture curses are not spoken spells that have power on their own. When God gave His covenant to Israel, blessings were pronounced from one mountain for obedience and curses from Mount Ebal for disobedience, and the people answered Amen to show they understood that breaking God's law brings consequences. Deuteronomy 27 and 28 make the condition clear. If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God to keep His commandments, blessing will overtake you. If you turn away and do not obey, curses will pursue and overtake you. There are many more verses describing curses than blessings, which shows how serious and far reaching disobedience is.

The good news of the gospel is that Jesus Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us on the cross, as Galatians 3:13 teaches. For those who are in Christ, we do not live under fear that someone's words can curse us. We rest in His finished work, we confess our sins, we walk in obedience to His voice, and we trust His blood to cover us. So we have prayed that any claim of a curse against you and your son would be broken in Jesus' name, that you would walk in the freedom and forgiveness that He gives, and that you would know you are kept by Him and not by any other power.

We have also prayed for your son's physical health. God cares for our bodies and He is the one who heals. Isaiah 53 says He bore our griefs and infirmities, and Matthew shows Jesus fulfilling that by healing every sickness and disease among the people. At the same time Scripture does not promise instant healing in every case in the way we expect. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh and the Lord answered with grace and strength rather than removal. Jesus sometimes healed instantly with a word or a touch, and sometimes healing came gradually. All healing, whether sudden or through a steady process that God has built into the body, is from Him. For safe weight loss we have asked the Lord to give your son wisdom, self control and perseverance, and to guide you to wise and careful medical counsel so that he can steward his body in a healthy and lasting way rather than through harmful or hurried means.

We have prayed as well for healing from past hurts. The deepest wounds often come from those we have trusted, when words that were smooth as butter covered a heart turned against us. The Lord sees those hurts. He not only forgives sin but blots out the past and brings times of refreshing from His presence, as Acts 3 says. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. We have asked Him to do that healing work in your son's heart and mind, to lift guilt and condemnation, to replace old memories of pain with His peace, and to restore joy in fellowship with Him.

May the Lord keep you both in His grace, teach you to hear and obey His voice, and fill your home with His peace. We continue to ask Him to make you whole in body, soul and spirit according to His perfect will, and to help you trust Him day by day.
