Thank you for sharing this burden for prayer. Your desire to see curses ended, to see health restored, and to see deep hurts healed is right and good, and God invites us to bring these things to Him.
In Scripture the picture of curses is made very clear in Deuteronomy. One mountain was for declaring the blessings that come when people listen carefully to the voice of the Lord and keep His commands, and the other mountain was for declaring the curses that follow when people turn away from Him. After each curse the people were to answer Amen, agreeing that God's judgment is just. As you continue into chapter 28 the Lord shows that the curses will pursue and overtake those who do not obey His voice, and there are many more verses describing the curses than the blessings, because the need for warning was great. That helps us understand that what the Bible calls a curse is not a vague spell from another person, but the just consequence of walking away from God's covenant.
The good news is deliverance. God often allows His people to come to a place where there seems to be no way out so that He can show His power to make a way where there is no way. When He delivered Israel, Moses and the people responded with a song of praise declaring His power and victory. That same delivering power is ours through Jesus Christ. The prophet Isaiah said He would bear our griefs and infirmities, which Matthew applies directly to Jesus healing the sick, whether it was the leper, the servant of the centurion, or Peter's mother in law. On the cross Christ bore the curse that the law pronounces on disobedience, so that those who are in Him are no longer under that curse but under His blessing and mercy.
For healing, Scripture shows that Jesus did not work by one fixed pattern. Sometimes He touched, sometimes He spoke a word from a distance, sometimes healing was immediate and sometimes it was gradual. Only one gradual healing is recorded in detail, but it reminds us that all healing is from God. The natural processes of restoration that He placed in the body are divine as well, because He created them. He also heals the inner person, the wounds and scars left by past hurts in the mind and emotions. That kind of healing is real, even when the body is still in process.
The thirst of the human spirit also cannot be satisfied by physical things or by chasing one emotional experience after another. Trying to fill a spiritual emptiness with material or emotional substitutes leaves a person still thirsty. Only coming to Jesus to drink satisfies the deep thirst for God. Past hurts are healed as we bring them honestly to Him and learn to walk in obedience to His voice, trusting Him day by day.
So we pray with you now. Father, in the name of Jesus we ask that any consequence of sin and disobedience would be broken by the blood of Christ, for He became a curse for us to redeem us. We ask for Your deliverance where there seems to be no way, and for Your protection over this family. We pray for this son, that You would give him wisdom and strength to lose weight in a safe and healthy way, guiding him to steady habits that honor You and care for the body You gave him. We pray for healing from past hurts, that You who bore our infirmities would heal both body and soul, whether that healing comes at once or gradually through Your appointed means. Satisfy his spiritual thirst with Yourself, heal the memories that still cause pain, and fill him with peace as he learns to hear and follow Your voice. Bring forth in his life a song of deliverance that gives glory to You. Amen.
