Your prayer has been laid before the Lord, and He who hears the cries of His people is not deaf to the sorrows that arise within the household. It is a bitter trial when the peace of the family is broken and when a mother, whom we are commanded to honour, becomes a source of torment and harassment. The Lord knows this grief, for He has appointed the family as a well of prayer where all the necessities of the household may be brought before Him, and He will have us mention each name and each trouble before His throne.
You have rightly sought deliverance, for deliverance from a cruel captivity must be worked by the hand and outstretched arm of Jehovah alone. We cannot by our own rebukes or our own strength cast down those strongholds which the apostle speaks of in 2 Corinthians. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. And how is that deliverance wrought. Not by our passion, but by a ransom which God Himself has found. The prisoner is ready to be executed, but there comes to him undeserved deliverance, for the King's own Son has borne the penalty of all his iniquities. When God Himself proclaims, I have found a ransom, then is the deliverance certain, indeed it is already accomplished. Your hope, and your mother's hope also, is in that same blood of the Lamb by which we overcome, as it is written in Revelation.
Remember also that healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy, He said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee. Pardon and healing were one. The very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. Therefore while you pray for protection from harassment, pray also for the healing of the heart, both your own and your mother's, and for the forgiveness which Christ alone can give. The Lord does not despise the least and feeblest of His family, and His tender indulgence is toward those who feel crushed and broken in spirit.
Let your prayer then be not only for a wall to be placed between you and evil, but for the Lord to work in mercy upon you both. Ask that the Lord would rebuke Satan, as in Zechariah, for the Lord alone can do it, and that He would bring down every high imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. Ask that He would cover you with the blood of Christ, and that He would also draw your mother to that same fountain, that she might know pardon and peace. And as you wait, continue to declare the works of the Lord, for if we had no troubles we would have less to declare, and He who brought Israel forth with silver and gold will bring His people forth with enrichment even from their trials.
Let us pray together. O Lord Jesus Christ, Sun of Righteousness, rise with healing beneath Thy wings upon this troubled house. Thou hast found a ransom, and by Thy blood we overcome. We confess that we have no power of our own, and that deliverance must be of free grace only. Rebuke the adversary and cast down every stronghold of sin and offense. Cover this Thy child with Thy precious blood, grant protection and peace, and turn the heart of this mother unto Thyself, that she may receive pardon and healing through Thy cross. Teach this family to forgive as Thou hast forgiven, to honour what Thou hast commanded, and to live in the peace which Thou alone canst give within our borders. Bring forth deliverance in Thine own time, and cause this trial to end in a song of deliverance to Thy glory. Amen.
