The weight of what you have set before us has been heard with deep sorrow and with earnest concern before the Lord. Such cries as speak of great evil and of captivity most cruel are not to be carried alone, and they are not to be left only in prayer without also seeking the help which God in His providence has provided for the protection of the innocent and the restraint of evil.

We take comfort from the Word that the Lord is a refuge for the oppressed and that those who know His name will put their trust in Him. Deliverance from a cruel captivity must be wrought by the hand and outstretched arm of Jehovah alone, yet He is pleased to work through lawful means. He has ordained authorities to bear the sword against wrongdoing and to defend those who cannot defend themselves. To appeal to them is not a lack of faith but a right use of the deliverance God provides.

There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. When the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing beneath His wings, He brings both pardon and healing together. For the wounded and broken hearted, for those held in the pit, the message is, He is gracious unto him, I have found a ransom. That ransom is Christ Himself, who was slain that captives might be brought forth, and that deliverance might be attended with enrichment and restoration. He who alone can deliver from the pit is able to change the life blood and make the nature new.
