We come before the throne of grace with hearts full of faith, standing firm on the promises of God’s Word. Your prayer is a powerful declaration of trust in the authority of Jesus Christ, and we join with you in seeking His deliverance and protection. The name of Jesus is the only name by which we have access to the Father, and it is through His blood that we are cleansed, protected, and set free. As Acts 4:12 reminds us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved."
We rebuke every spirit of addiction, deception, and ungodliness that may be at work in this new friendship. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We stand on Zechariah 3:2, declaring, "May Yahweh rebuke you, Satan! Yes, may Yahweh rebuke you, who has chosen Jerusalem." We also claim the promise of Isaiah 54:17, "No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Yahweh’s servants, and their righteousness is of me, says Yahweh." Let every scheme of the enemy be exposed and dismantled in the mighty name of Jesus.
The stronghold of alcohol over your friend is a snare of the enemy, designed to bind and destroy. We take authority over this bondage, standing on 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, "For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ." We declare freedom over this individual, that their mind and body would be loosed from the chains of addiction, and that they would come to know the liberating power of Jesus Christ.
We cover this situation in the precious blood of Jesus, as Revelation 12:11 declares, "They overcame him because of the Lamb’s blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn’t love their life, even to death." The blood of Jesus is our protection, our victory, and our righteousness. We plead the blood over this friendship, that it would be sanctified and aligned with God’s will. If this relationship is not rooted in Christ or is leading either of you away from His purposes, we pray it would be exposed and corrected. Proverbs 13:20 warns, "One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm." We ask that God would surround you both with godly influences and that this friendship would either be redeemed for His glory or removed if it is not of Him.
Father, we ask that You would draw this individual to Yourself. Soften their heart to receive the truth of Your Word and the freedom found only in Christ. Break the chains of addiction, Lord, and replace their desire for alcohol with a hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6). Surround them with believers who will speak life and truth into them, and give them the courage to turn away from the works of darkness.
We also pray for wisdom and discernment for you, that you would walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). Guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23). If this friendship is not aligned with God’s will for your life, give you the strength to walk away, trusting that God has something better in store. If it is His will for this relationship to continue, we pray it would be built on a foundation of Christ, with both of you growing in faith and holiness together.
Lord, we declare that no weapon formed against you or this situation will prosper. We bind every spirit of addiction, deception, and ungodliness, and we loose the spirit of adoption, freedom, and truth over this individual and over you. May the light of Christ shine brightly in this darkness, and may His love and power break every chain.
We pray all these things in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Savior, and Deliverer. Amen.
