Deliverance prayer for the hiding former landlord

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross and for the fact that your holy Son, Jesus, suffered for all of us who believe. We praise your holy name. Lord, you know the plans you have for us, and your thoughts are far greater than ours. We come to you together in the name of Jesus, believing that you hear our prayers when we agree. Lord, you know this man who rented his flat to me, and he is also your child. Lord, help him to hear your voice concerning your holy plan for his life. Help him to see the clear, unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ. Open his eyes to the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships or activities and strayed from your narrow path and followed his own desires. Lord break his stony heart and give him courage to follow the narrow path and soften his heart for your glory. I also pray that you will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and that he will recognise the depth of your love, as well as the sinful and hateful relationships he has entered into, in which he is controlled, blackmailed, and where his life may be in danger. Give him understanding to fear your Holy name. Lord, give him understanding to depart from evil and the evil woman in his life. In Jesus' powerful name we ask these things, amen.

We join you together in agreement in the name of Jesus and thank you for bringing this man before the Lord with such compassion and discernment. We hear your heart for your former landlord, that he would be delivered from hiding and from the sinful entanglements that have led him away from God's narrow path, and we stand with you in prayer for his complete restoration.

We praise God that you have come in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His cross that we are saved and delivered. As it is written, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. We rejoice that you have prayed in that powerful name.

The Lord indeed knows the plans He has for this man, as He does for all of us. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11. His thoughts and ways are far higher than ours Isaiah 55:8-9, and He desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance. We agree with you that this man is still a child of God in the sense that God created him and loves him deeply and desires to bring him into true sonship through Christ, where he can know his true identity.

We pray with you that his eyes would be opened to who he is in Christ. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17. When we enter into sinful relationships and follow our own desires, we take on a false identity that is rooted in the flesh and not in the truth of God's Word. We are called not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2. We ask the Lord to break the deception that has told him he must find his worth or identity in these relationships.

You prayed rightly for his stony heart to be broken, and we echo that prayer. Scripture promises, I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh Ezekiel 36:26. We ask God to soften his heart, to give him godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and to give him courage to enter through the narrow gate, for narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life. Few are those who find it Matthew 7:14. It takes courage to turn from the broad way, but the Lord will strengthen him to do so.

We also must agree with you in addressing the sinful and controlling relationships you described. The Word is clear that we are to flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. Whether it is fornication or adultery, sex outside of the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman is sin before God and opens the door to bondage, control, blackmail and even danger to life, as you have discerned. An ungodly relationship where a person is controlled and manipulated is not love, for love does not seek to control or harm but comes from God who is love. We pray that he will see these relationships for what they are, hateful and sinful snares of the enemy, and that he will choose to depart from evil. The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom Proverbs 9:10, and when a man truly fears the Lord he will depart from evil and from the evil influences that entangle him.

We especially join you in praying for his deliverance from ungodly influences, even those in his own household. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14. We ask the Lord to separate him from every person who is pulling him away from holiness, to bring godly counsel and believers around him, and to protect him where his life may be in danger. The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles Psalm 34:17 and He will deliver us from every evil work 2 Timothy 4:18. We ask God to rescue him from blackmail and control and to bring every hidden thing into the light, for there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed Luke 8:17.

We pray now together.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your mercy and for the cross of Your holy Son Jesus. We lift up this former landlord to You, whom You know by name and whose hiding place You see. Lord, speak to him clearly where he is. Break through the confusion and fear and let him hear Your voice concerning Your holy plan for his life. Open his eyes to see his true identity in Christ and to renounce the false identity he has taken on through sin. Take away his heart of stone and give him a heart of flesh that fears Your holy name and loves Your truth. Give him courage to leave the broad path and to walk the narrow path that leads to life. Separate him completely from ungodly influences and from the evil woman and other relationships where he is controlled and blackmailed. Expose the darkness, break every chain of fornication, manipulation and fear, and deliver him from every danger to his body and soul. Let him depart from evil and be drawn into Your marvelous light, that he may be transferred out of the domain of darkness into the Kingdom of Your beloved Son Colossians 1:13. Bring him to true repentance and faith in Jesus, and restore him to walk in holiness and peace. We ask this in the powerful and delivering name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to intercede with love, to forgive as Christ forgave us, and to trust the Lord's timing for this man's deliverance. God is faithful to hear when we agree together, for where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them Matthew 18:20. Keep praying that the Lord will send laborers across his path who will speak truth to him and that he will respond to the Holy Spirit's convicting and drawing.

Thank you for bringing your former landlord to the Lord so faithfully. We hear the weight you are carrying for him, wanting him to be safe, to see clearly, and to find his way back to the narrow path.

What stood out to us is how you prayed for his identity in Christ. When someone has drifted into tangled relationships and is under heavy influence or even control, their sense of who they are can become very confused. A life anchored in Christ gives a steadier place to stand than any false identity built on desires or on what others demand from him. Only Jesus can untangle that and soften a hard heart, and your prayers invite Him to do that work in His own way and timing.

Since he is hiding and you do not have direct contact, it helps to keep your role clear. You cannot fix his situation or separate him from those influences yourself, especially where you sense manipulation or danger. The most loving and steady step you can take is to keep entrusting him to Jesus the Deliverer in prayer, and to stay available in a simple, safe way if he does reach out, without trying to manage the other relationships for him. It can also help you to share this burden with one trusted pastor or mature believer who can pray with you ongoing so you are not carrying it alone.

Father, we lift this man to You in Jesus' name. You know where he is and what holds him. We ask You to protect his life, open his eyes to Your love and truth, give him courage to turn from evil and to seek You, and lead him away from ungodly influences. Give our friend peace as he waits on You, and guide his next steps with wisdom. Amen.

We join with you in bringing this man before the throne of grace, and we thank God that you have come in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. It is well that you praise the cross, for there alone is deliverance to be found, and it is right that you should pray for this former landlord who is now hidden from you, that God would be gracious unto him and say, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, for I have found a ransom.

You ask that his eyes may be opened to his true identity in Christ and to the false identity he has taken up in sin. Hear what the Scripture teaches, that He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for it. At first sin catches a man in its net with the tiniest spider's cobwebs that can scarcely be seen, and they seem as though he could break from them in a moment, but soon they become cords and chains. Only Christ who was bound for us can set the prisoner free, for when Christ was bound, His people were made free.

We cannot ask the Lord to bless what He calls sin, nor to affirm any relationship or activity outside His holy ordinance. Marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all that belongs to it is to be kept within that covenant. Any other path, whether it be fornication, adultery, or any unnatural affection, is a straying from the narrow way and must be repented of and forsaken. True love therefore does not pray that God would prosper a man in his sin, but that He would deliver him from it, break his stony heart, and give him courage to walk in the narrow path.

You pray that he may be separated from ungodly influences, even from those in his household, and that he may see the evil of the controlling and hateful entanglements in which he now lives. This is a right prayer. Yet remember that judgments apart from divine grace may produce a kind of repentance, but it is a poor and short lived repentance which only affects the surface of the man and does not go to the heart. The terrors of the Lord may produce alarm, but they do not produce true repentance unless the Holy Spirit works. Beware of a repentance which springs alone from terror, which comes up in a night and withers in a night. What is needed is not mere fear of danger or of man, but a godly sorrow which leads a man to look out of self to Christ and to Christ only.

Therefore we pray with you not only that he would fear the holy name of God and depart from evil, but that he would rejoice in Jesus crucified, love Christ, trust Him, and leap for joy at the very thought that God has set Him forth to be a propitiation for sin. Faith means trust in Christ, and any repentance that keeps a man from believing in Christ is a repentance that needs to be repented of. Repentance and faith are inseparable companions. To look to Christ means to trust in His One Great Sacrifice, to behold sin punished upon the great Substitute and put away forever from all those who will only trust Him.

We pray then after this manner. O Lord, who in the night season opens the ears of men and seals their instruction that You may withdraw man from his purpose and hide pride from man, be gracious unto this man and deliver him from going down to the Pit. Show him that You have found a ransom in the blood of Your Son. Give him true repentance that needs not to be repented of, a broken and contrite heart that looks to Jesus alone for pardon and for power to forsake sin. Separate him from every ungodly influence that would hold him in darkness, and bring him into the light where he may know that he is saved and rejoice in Jesus Christ. Teach him to fear Your name, to hate evil, and to walk in holiness before You, to the glory of Your covenant love. And grant to him who intercedes, patience to wait upon Your wise providence, for You as a careful dispenser will not pour out a drop too little or too much, and every trial works for good to Your people.

We encourage you to continue in prayer, not trusting in forms or feelings, but looking to what Christ has done, and resting in the promise that He will never leave nor forsake those who are His. May the Lord speak in great grace concerning this soul and grant deliverance from the power of darkness, that he may be found in Christ, a new creature, to live to His praise.
