Isaiah 23:4 :
Be ashamed, Sidon, and you fortress of the sea, for the sea has spoken: “I have neither been in labor nor given birth; I have neither reared sons nor brought up daughters.”

Example Prayer Inspired by Isaiah 23:4: Our prayer:
"Lord Almighty, You are the maker of the seas and the dry land. Where there is barrenness, dryness, or a sense of loss in our life, we ask You to bring renewal. Deliver us from any stronghold or devastation that seeks to rob our life of fruitfulness. Turn any place of mourning or emptiness into a place of fresh life and clear direction. Help us to trust You as our Redeemer through every trial. In Jesus' name, Amen."

We join you in this beautiful prayer for deliverance and renewal and we agree together for God to turn every place of barrenness into fruitfulness by His power.

We love that you have brought Isaiah 23:4 before the Lord, where it says Be ashamed, Sidon, and you fortress of the sea, for the sea has spoken, I have neither been in labor nor given birth, I have neither reared sons nor brought up daughters. In context this is a lament over devastation and emptiness coming upon a great fortress that trusted in its own strength and trade. The sea itself confesses barrenness and loss. Yet what man and what fortress cannot produce, God can. Where the world speaks emptiness, the Lord speaks life.

Your prayer rightly recognizes that Jesus Himself is the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life. As it is written in John 6:35 Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. And in John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. When we come to Him, our emptiness is filled and our dry places are watered.

We are reminded that any stronghold that seeks to rob fruitfulness must bow to Christ, for 2 Corinthians 10:4 says the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds. And true fruitfulness comes only as we abide in Him, for John 15:5 says I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

We also take comfort that God delights to turn mourning into joy and to make fruitful what was desolate. Psalm 107:35 says He turns a desert into a pool of water, a dry land into springs of water. Isaiah 61:3 promises He will give them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. And Psalm 30:11 declares You have turned my mourning into dancing for me. You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness.

So we pray together with you now.

Father in heaven, we thank You that You are the Maker of the seas and the dry land and that nothing is too hard for You. We bring before You every place of barrenness, dryness, loss and emptiness in our lives. Forgive us where we have trusted in our own fortresses and deliver us from every stronghold and every devastation that seeks to rob us of fruitfulness in Christ. We ask You to pull down those strongholds by Your mighty power and to plant us by streams of living water so that we may bear fruit in season according to Psalm 1:3. Turn our mourning into dancing and our emptiness into fullness through Jesus who is the Bread of Life and the Word made flesh. Fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit, renew our minds by Your Word, and give us clear direction for each step ahead. Help us to trust You as our Redeemer through every trial, knowing that You work all things for good for those who love You. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus our Savior, Amen.

We encourage you to remain rooted daily in the Word of Life, for as you feed on Christ the Bread of Heaven, He will sustain you and cause your life to bear much fruit for His glory.

We hear the weight in what you shared, that sense of emptiness and mourning and wanting God to make a dry place fruitful again. It is a hard place to be, and we are grateful you brought it honestly before the Lord.

Grief and barren seasons can feel isolating, and no two people walk through them the same way. What you are feeling is not a failure of faith, it is part of being human after loss and disappointment. It often helps not to carry it alone.

One simple step that may help in the days ahead is to let one trusted person in on what you are praying. Whether it is a pastor, a mature friend, or a counselor, sharing even a short version of this prayer out loud can make the burden lighter and give someone else a chance to walk with you and pray with you consistently. If the heaviness lingers or feels overwhelming over time, it is also a good and wise thing to reach out for more ongoing support.

We are praying with you and for you.

Father, we lift our friend to You right now. You see every place that feels empty or worn down. Bring Your presence and renewal where there has been mourning, and give clear direction for each next step. Guard and comfort this heart, and draw them closer to Jesus day by day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

There is a tender mercy in the prayer you have offered, for it confesses both emptiness and hope, and the Lord delights to meet such a confession with His fulness. When the sea itself is made to say, I have not travailed nor brought forth, we are reminded how barren the creature is without the Creator, and how all fruitfulness must come from His hand.

The Scripture gives us a gracious exchange, beauty for ashes and the oil of joy for mourning. True mourning, when it is wrought by the Spirit of Grace and of supplication, is not a mourning left to itself, but a looking unto Him whom we have pierced, and there finding the fountain opened for sin and for uncleanness. Your place of mourning may thus become a feast of love, for He prepares a table and anoints the head with oil, and turns the house of mourning into a house where His comfort is heard. This work of renewal is no light thing, it requires the same power that raised Christ from the dead, yet that power is promised to those who wait upon the Lord, lest grey hairs come upon us unawares and we slide into an unconscious apostasy.

Let us pray together.

O Lord Almighty, Maker of the seas and of the dry land, we come before Thee confessing our barrenness and our need. Thou alone canst give life where there is dryness and fruit where there has been emptiness. Deliver us, we beseech Thee, from every stronghold and devastation that would rob our lives of fruitfulness in Christ. Pour upon us the Spirit of Grace and supplication, that we may look unto Jesus, Thy Son, who was pierced for our transgressions, and find in His blood both pardon and cleansing.

Turn, O Lord, our mourning into the oil of joy, and our emptiness into fresh life and clear direction through Thy Word, who is the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life. Renew us day by day, and keep us abiding in the Vine, that we may bring forth fruit unto Thy glory. Help us to trust Thee as our Redeemer through every trial, and to walk in consecration and holy obedience before Thee. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who ever lives to intercede for us. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer for deliverance from barrenness and for renewal has been heard, and we join our hearts with yours before the Lord.

The image in Isaiah of the sea speaking of having no labor and no children is a picture of emptiness and loss, of a fortress that finds itself without fruit. Yet the Lord who made both sea and dry land is the same Lord who gives life where there is dryness and who brings fruitfulness where there was mourning. As Scripture teaches, true fruitfulness is not merely a matter of nature but of grace working with a willing heart, and renewal comes when we are made new in the spirit of our minds through Christ.

We pray with you now. Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, we ask You to break every stronghold and to lift every devastation that would seek to rob this life of fruitfulness. Where there has been mourning, bring comfort. Where there has been emptiness, bring fresh life and clear direction. Renew the heart and mind by Your Holy Spirit, and help there to be trust in You as Redeemer through every trial. Let what has felt barren become fruitful by Your mercy and power, for Your glory. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Redeemer, Amen.
