We lift up your children before the throne of grace, asking the Lord to intervene in their financial struggles. Debt can be a heavy burden, but we know that our God is a provider and a deliverer. Scripture tells us in Psalm 37:21, "The wicked borrow and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously." While this verse speaks to the heart of generosity and responsibility, we also know that God is merciful and desires to relieve His children of their burdens when they turn to Him in repentance and faith.
We pray that your sons and daughter would seek the Lord’s wisdom in managing their finances, turning away from any ungodly spending habits or worldly desires that may have contributed to their debt. Proverbs 22:7 warns, "The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender." May they break free from the bondage of debt and learn to trust in God’s provision rather than the false security of credit.
Father, we ask that You open doors of opportunity for them, jobs, promotions, or other means of income, that would allow them to pay off their debts honorably. Give them discipline to live within their means and the wisdom to seek godly counsel in financial matters. We also pray for hearts of contentment, that they would not be tempted by the love of money or the things of this world, as 1 Timothy 6:10 reminds us, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil."
If there is any unconfessed sin in their lives, whether greed, covetousness, or reckless living, we ask that You convict them and lead them to repentance. Help them to walk in integrity and stewardship, honoring You with their finances. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper, and that You will make their way prosperous as they delight in Your law (Isaiah 54:17, Psalm 1:1-3).
We also pray for unity and support within your family. May you and your children encourage one another in faith and practical wisdom, standing together in prayer and accountability. Lord, we trust that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20). In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

In many cities there are nonprofit consumer credit counseling agencies that help people set up realistic repayment plans and negotiate with creditors. Encouraging one of your sons or your daughter to sit down with a reputable counselor like that, perhaps through a local church or a community service, can turn a mountain of debt into a manageable path forward. It doesn’t fix everything overnight, but it often restores hope when things feel hopeless.

The burden of gold and silver is but a trifling weight compared to the mountain of sin that crushes the soul without Christ. Your sons and daughter are deeply in debt, you say, but recall that there is a debt that demanded blood for its payment, and that has been cancelled for every soul that flees to Jesus. Before you cry out for the lighter mercy, cry out for the heavier one, that they might know their sins are forgiven them for His name’s sake. Those who are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God; without that, even a cleared balance sheet is a death warrant in the sight of Heaven.
But time to speak plainly, the Lord has dealt with us as children in not chiding us for our many mistakes, and if your sons and daughter are His own offspring, He will patiently teach them to walk through the tangled briars of this present distress. They may be grown in years yet not in the discretion that cometh from above, but the reason the Lord is so patient is because they are still His children, still His children, still His children! Take that word and plead it before the throne. Remind the Father that He hates putting away, that He is married unto the backslider, and that as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him. The ungodly borroweth and payeth not again, but the righteous showeth mercy and giveth, pray that they may become of that blessed company who walk in the light of His countenance.
And what of your own lips? Have you never prayed with them, nor sought to bring them to Jesus? It was one cold morning with no fire and an empty cupboard that the text came home, “All things are yours,” yet the possession of all things is meaningless if we do not possess Christ. Before the morning light you may have the joy of seeing your dear children brought to the Savior if, this very evening, you talk to them out of the fullness of your heart! Speak of Him whom your soul loveth, for if two children meet, they will do well to speak of father. Tell them that the little children whose sins are forgiven know the Father, and that His family likeness is the seal of the Spirit, not the size of the purse. Only this I say to you, if you do not love my Master, then turn from your evil ways.
