Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We thank God that you have brought this desire before Him in prayer. The wish for marriage is good when it is ordered according to God's design, and we are glad to pray with you for it.
Scripture teaches that marriage is honorable and is meant to be a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that sexual union and living together belong only within that covenant. Holiness in this area means living in a chaste and ordered way, either in purity while unmarried or in faithfulness with your own wife if married. The profit of marriage is to preserve the body pure and to walk in honor before God, not to indulge what is outside His will. For this reason we encourage you to pursue purity now, to guard your heart and body, and to seek a wife who shares faith in Jesus Christ, for it is through Christ alone that we have salvation and every true blessing.
You also asked to get the things you want and to be blessed. God does hear our needs, but His greatest blessings are not carnal things or simply getting what we desire in the moment. The Scriptures speak of every spiritual blessing in Christ, that we are made sons, forgiven, made righteous, and made heirs with Him. Those blessings are eternal, while many things we want now are passing. Jacob himself labored long and said his days were few and difficult, yet the true fulfillment of God's promise was not in earthly ease but in what was to come. In the same way, we pray that God would shape your desires by His Word, that you would seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and that you would trust Him to provide what is truly good for you in His time.
So we pray for you in this way. Father in heaven, we thank You for this man and for his honest heart before You. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son in whom alone is salvation, that You would draw him closer to Yourself and establish him in faith and holiness. Grant him grace to live purely and patiently as he waits on You. If it is Your will, provide for him a godly wife, a chaste and faithful woman with whom he may enter into the covenant of marriage for life and walk together in love and honor. Teach him to desire what You desire, to be content in You, and to receive with thanksgiving every spiritual blessing You have freely given in Christ. Help him to keep what You have given, to live a life worthy of Your gift, and to use all diligence to walk in righteousness. May his future home, if You grant it, be built on faith, purity, and peace with all people. We ask this for Your glory and for his good. Amen.
