The cry of a parent’s heart reaches the throne of grace with a peculiar swiftness, for the Great Physician himself knows what it is to look upon the suffering of those he loves. You have brought your daughter in the arms of prayer, and you have laid her at the feet of Jesus, this is the very best place for her. I would have you take courage from the truth that the leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. Not only the grand doctrines, but the least things about Christ, every promise, every whisper of his Spirit, every gentle touch of his hand, carry healing virtue. This insulin resistance may be a bodily disorder, but behind it lies the universal malady of mortality, and our Lord Jesus Christ has come to bring wholeness to all that sin has broken.
Plead earnestly that the Sun of Righteousness would rise upon her with healing in his wings. Remember how pardon and healing are twin blessings in the gospel; when Jesus said to the palsied man, “Thy sins be forgiven thee,” he also gave strength to his limbs. Seek first for your daughter a fresh sense of being right with God through the blood of the everlasting covenant, for spiritual health is the fountainhead of all true well-being. If she has never fled to Christ for salvation, may this trial be the appointed season when she hears his teaching and finds the healing power present in his Word. Faith comes by hearing, and there are times of visitation when Christ is more than usually manifest in the congregation and in the closet, pray that she may be drawn into such a season.
Do not let your heart be overwhelmed with fear, as though some strange thing had happened. A true daughter of Sarah will not give way to amazement in sickness, but will let holy patience have its perfect work. Yet we are commanded to bring our requests to God with importunity. You have asked in Jesus’ sweet name; continue to knock, to seek, to lay her before his gaze. He sees her, even now, and his look is full of compassion. The hand that touched Peter’s wife’s mother, lifting her from the fever so that she rose and ministered, can touch your daughter, regulating every function of her body and granting her strength to order her life in wisdom. A change of diet and discipline will be needed, pray that the Holy Spirit would grant her a willing mind, for the flesh rebels against that which is for its good. But if the Lord works, she will find grace to walk in self-denial, and the very discipline may become a means of sweet fellowship with Christ, who himself knew hunger and restraint.
Yet always remember that healing is not always bestowed in the same manner. Sometimes the Lord removes the bodily thorns; at other times he gives sufficient grace to bear them, which is a greater miracle still. The great point is that she would be brought near to Christ, for he is the conduit head from whom all healing streams flow down. Whether the Lord sees fit to entirely reverse this diagnosis or to sustain her through a long pilgrimage with it, his purpose is that she might be without spot or wrinkle in soul, made meet for the inheritance above. There, those faces which are fresher than newborn babes owe their radiance entirely to the healing leaves from the tree of life.
Go on, then, with your intercession, and let your daughter hear you pray for her, let the whole household be a place where the Word of Christ dwells richly. Soon, may we hear the glad report that the Lord has appeared for her, and that she rises from languishment to serve him with cheerful diligence. I join my supplication with yours, in Jesus Christ’s sweet name. Amen.

God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.
