In 1993 my eldest child's father (D'Andre Lampkins) received a 30 year federal sentence for drug trafficking.
As of October 31st, 2011 he has served 19 years. To make a long story short, in 2007 a bill was signed by
Congress (re: Mandatory Minimum Sentencing, racial disparity) which enabled him to receive a sentence
reduction. (5 years was reduced off his original sentence... his new release date is now 2014)
Due to the nature of the sentences handed down in the late 1980's through mid 1990's, being overtly excessive,
and targeting the African American community, the 2011 Retroactive Crack guideline amendment went into
effect Nov. 1st 2011. This allows inmates affected (sentenced) under the mandatory minimum guideline
eligible for "another" sentence reduction if they meet a certain criteria, and it's also at the discretion of the
sentencing judge. Mr. Lampkins made a terrible mistake in his youth. This mistake has cost him a relationship
with his daughter, his family, as well as losing 20 years of his life for a crime which he's paid for.
A mistake that may have been a blessing (in other ways) but which has caused pain & strife for us all along the way.
I'm requesting corporate prayer on behalf of Mr. Lampkins. He was a non violent offender, who as I said
made a terrible mistake in his early youth. He is now a man of 42 years old, with a grandchild & a daughter
which NEED him very much. He has been an exemplary inmate, graduating college, mentoring wayward youth,
and trying to right the wrongs that he cause to his family & society so long ago. Although there is only a remaining
3 years left on his sentence (projected release date 10/31/2014) it's time for his release. I pray that when
Judge Philip Gilbert receives Mr. Lampkins' motion requesting the retroactive sentence reduction (which will make
him eligible for immediate release) he will grant an immediate release. I believe that when two or more come together,
prayer is more effective, due to the strength in numbers. Although my family has been praying for his release for a number of years,
a little voice instructed me to request prayer from others. So this is my corporate prayer request.
Please prayer for D'Andre Lampkins. Pray that Judge Phil Gilbert will recognize this is no longer the boy he sentenced
to 30 years 19 years ago. Pray that he realizes this is now a man, acknowledging his mistakes, accepting responsibility,
and trying to rectify the things in his life, and that of his daughters life that went wrong, so long ago.
Pray that Judge Gilbert recognizes this is a rehabilitated man, who deserves a second chance.
Pray that Judge Gilbert grants an immediate release.... of course if this is God's will we ask... in Jesus' name.
Thank you so much,
Monique Brown
