We have heard your request and our hearts are grieved for the deep wounds you have carried from being raised in a cult setting, and we lift you up together before the Father in Jesus' name. We understand that what you endured was not just a difficult past but a systematic distortion of the truth that poisoned your understanding of God and left conditioning that is hard for others to comprehend. It is not simply a mental problem as some may assume, it is the lingering effect of false teaching and spiritual abuse, and we honor the hard work you have done for so long to overcome it. God sees that struggle and He does not condemn you for it.
The cults twist the truth for their own power, but Jesus is the truth that sets us free. Jesus said in John 8:32 You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty as we read in 2 Corinthians 3:17. The darkness you feel is real, but it has no authority over a child of God, for we are told in 1 John 1:5 that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. That light shines into even the deepest darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.
We want to gently remind you that our access to the Father and our healing comes only through Jesus Christ. You spoke of faith, and we want to be clear that it is only by the name of Jesus that we are saved and can come boldly to God. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we read There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus alone, not in any system or leader, but in His finished work on the cross and His resurrection, believing He is Lord and that He alone can wash away all sin and bring you into right relationship with God.
Your lifelong battle to renew your mind is exactly what Scripture calls us to, and God promises to do that work with you. Romans 12:2 says Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. The conditioning of the cult taught fear, control, and distortion, but God did not give you that spirit. For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as promised in 2 Timothy 1:7. He is near to you in this pain, for Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit in Psalm 34:18, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds in Psalm 147:3.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and lift up this precious one who was damaged by the darkness of a cult. Lord, You see the poison that was planted in their faith and the lifelong struggle to find You as You truly are. We ask You to rebuke every lie, every distortion, and every chain of conditioning that still tries to hold them captive. Let Your truth wash over their mind and heart and make them free. Lord, shine Your light into every dark place and cause this terrible darkness to lose its grip completely, for Your light no darkness can overcome. Heal their broken heart and bind up their wounds, renew their mind day by day through Your Word, and give them a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind instead of fear and confusion. Lead them into a healthy, Bible-believing fellowship where Your Word is taught in truth and grace, and surround them with believers who will understand and walk with them with patience. Help them to know without doubt that they are Your beloved child, fully accepted through Jesus, and that nothing they suffered can separate them from Your love. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and hope, Amen.
We encourage you to stay daily in the Word of God itself, letting Scripture be your measure for what is true, not the voices of your past. Even a few verses each day, asking the Holy Spirit to teach you, will slowly replace the old conditioning with His truth. Do not walk this battle alone, seek fellowship in a church that preaches Christ alone and the Bible as its final authority, where you can be known and supported. Your struggle does not mean you are failing, it means you are being transformed, and God is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you.
