We hear your heart for your adult son and we join with you in bringing him before our heavenly Father, thanking God for His mercy that no one was hurt in the accident last night. We know how heavy it is to watch a child struggle with addiction, and we want to stand with you in prayer for his deliverance, his safety, and his future.
We want to gently address that addiction is not simply a bad habit but a bondage of the flesh that enslaves the mind, body and soul. Scripture says No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. It also warns that each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death James 1:14-15. We rebuke the power of this addiction over your son and we pray that he will turn from seeking escape in substances to seeking freedom in Christ, for if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed John 8:36.
You mentioned exorcising the demons within him and wanting him to be in control of his mind, body and soul once again. We believe that our struggle is spiritual and that Christ has all authority over every evil influence, and we also know that much of addiction comes from the desires of the flesh and the need for a transformed heart. True control does not come from willpower alone but from surrender to the Holy Spirit. God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. We pray not that he would simply manage his life in his own strength, but that he would submit himself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you James 4:7, and present his body as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God Romans 12:1. The peace you long for him to find is only found in Christ, and we claim the promise In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.
We also lift up the practical consequences you mentioned, his license, his employment, and any trouble with the law. We pray for mercy, that God would protect his ability to provide for himself, but we also pray that whatever consequences come would be used by God for his good and for his wake-up call. Sometimes the loving discipline of the Lord is what leads to repentance, for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines Hebrews 12:6. We ask that his employer and the authorities would act justly and mercifully, and that your son would take full responsibility for his actions, confess where he has done wrong, and make restitution where needed. He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy Proverbs 28:13.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Freedom from addiction and peace for the soul cannot come apart from repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, and calling on His name. If your son has not yet surrendered his life to Jesus, we pray today would be the day he does, confessing his sin, for If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9.
So we pray together now. Father in heaven, we lift up this beloved son to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We thank You that You spared lives in this accident and we ask for Your mercy over the legal and employment consequences. We ask that You would open doors for help and close doors to further destruction. Lord, break the chains of addiction that bind him, cleanse his mind, body and soul, fill him with Your Holy Spirit, and give him a hunger for Your Word and for sobriety. Grant him godly sorrow that leads to repentance, surround him with strong Christian brothers, pastors and counselors who will hold him accountable, and help him to seek professional help and a Christ-centered recovery community. Give his parent strength, wisdom and peace as they love him with both grace and truth, not enabling sin but pointing him to You. We ask that he would find true peace and self-control not in himself but in Christ who dwells in him. We pray all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our only hope and deliverer, amen.
We encourage you to keep praying without ceasing, to urge your son to seek help immediately through a local Bible believing church, pastoral counseling and, if needed, a qualified treatment program, and to set loving boundaries that do not shield him from the consequences that may lead him to repentance. We also encourage you to stay in the Word and in fellowship yourself, for God is close to the brokenhearted Psalm 34:18 and He is able to make your son a new creation, for if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17. We are standing with you and trusting God to work in power in his life.

God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.
