Courage to tell my ### about my partner

Disciple of Prayer
I’m asking you to pray for me, because I want to tell my really strict mother about my boyfriend, but I’m afraid of how she will react and need courage to do it and guidance in what to say so it won’t lead to a fight or into us needing to break up.

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we stand with you in prayer as you seek the Lord’s wisdom and courage in this situation. It is clear you love your mother and desire to honor her, even as you navigate this important step in your life. First, let us address the foundation of your relationship—if you and your boyfriend are not yet married, Scripture is clear that your relationship should be one of godly courtship with the goal of marriage. "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge" (Hebrews 13:4). If you are living together or engaging in sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we must gently but firmly rebuke this as sin and encourage you to repent and seek the Lord’s forgiveness, for His ways are always for our good.

Now, regarding your mother, we understand your fear is real, but we serve a God who does not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). The Lord sees your desire to honor your mother while also honoring Him, and He will equip you for this conversation. Begin by praying for her heart to be softened and for the Lord to give you the right words at the right time. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Approach her with humility, respect, and a heart that seeks reconciliation rather than conflict.

If your mother is strict, she may have concerns rooted in love and a desire to protect you. Acknowledge her perspective and assure her that your relationship is centered on Christ and the pursuit of a godly marriage. If she raises objections, listen with patience and respond with grace, always pointing back to the Lord’s will. If she insists on separation, remember that your ultimate allegiance is to Christ. "We must obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29), but we must also strive to live at peace with everyone as much as it depends on us (Romans 12:18).

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our sister, lifting up her heart and this situation to You. Lord, You know the fear and uncertainty she feels, and we ask that You replace it with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Give her courage, Father, to speak the truth in love, and grant her the words to say that will honor You and her mother. Soften her mother’s heart, Lord, and help her to respond with wisdom and grace. If there is any sin in this relationship, reveal it, Lord, and lead them both to repentance and restoration. We pray for unity in this family, that Your will would be done and Your name glorified. Strengthen our sister to stand firm in Your truth, even if it means facing opposition. May she trust in You, knowing that You are her refuge and strength. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to seek the Lord daily in prayer and to surround yourself with godly counsel, perhaps from a pastor or mature Christian mentor, who can help guide you through this season. Remember, the Lord is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Trust in Him, and He will direct your steps.

We're here for you, dear friend. We understand that talking to your mom about your relationship can feel daunting, but remember, God is right there with you, every step of the way. Let's pray together, asking for His courage and wisdom to guide your conversation.

Dear Lord, we come to You today, lifting up our ### and her situation. Lord, You know the anxiety she's feeling, and we ask that You fill her with Your perfect peace. Give her the courage to speak the truth in love, and grant her the right words to say that will honor both You and her mother. Softening her mother's heart, Lord, help her to respond with understanding and grace. If there's any sin in this relationship, reveal it, Lord, and lead them both to repentance and restoration. We pray for unity in this family, that Your will would be done and Your name glorified. Strengthen our ### to stand firm in Your truth, even if it means facing opposition. May she trust in You, knowing that You are her refuge and strength. In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Now, as you prepare for this conversation, remember to approach your mom with humility and respect. Listen to her perspective, and assure her that your relationship is built on a foundation that honors Christ and His will for your lives. Trust that the Lord will guide your words and actions, and that He will use this conversation to bring about His good and perfect will. You're not alone in this, dear friend. God is with you, and so are we, praying for you every step of the way.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer as you sought the Lord’s courage and wisdom in sharing your heart with your mother. It is our joy to lift one another up before the throne of grace, and we have earnestly asked our Heavenly Father to go before you, soften her heart, and give you the perfect words to speak in love and truth.

If the Lord has already granted you the opportunity to share and you’ve seen His peace and guidance in the conversation, we would be so encouraged to hear a praise report—how He worked, how He calmed your fears, and how He is drawing your family closer to Himself. Your testimony could be a blessing to others who are facing similar fears.

If you haven’t yet had the chance to speak with her, or if the conversation didn’t go as you’d hoped, please don’t lose heart. We would be honored to continue praying with you. Consider posting this request again so we can intercede afresh for God’s timing, His peace, and His perfect will to be done. The Lord is faithful, and He hears the cries of His children.

May He continue to strengthen you, fill you with His Spirit, and remind you that you are never alone. His grace is sufficient, and His love casts out all fear. We will keep pressing into Him alongside you, trusting that He is at work even when we cannot see it.

In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.
