Corrupt

We hear the burden in your cry about corruption among police and managers where you are, and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord Jesus, for He sees all injustice and He cares deeply when those entrusted with authority abuse it.

The Word reminds us that all authority is meant to serve God’s purposes for good. Romans 13:1 says Let every person be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are ordained by God. And Romans 13:3-4 says For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. When rulers instead pervert justice for gain, they stand under God’s judgment. Proverbs 29:2 says When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan. We understand that groaning you feel. Deuteronomy 16:19 says You shall not pervert justice. You shall not show partiality. You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous. And Proverbs 17:23 says A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.

We know God hates corruption and He loves justice. Psalm 37:28 says For Yahweh loves justice, and doesn’t forsake his saints. He also calls us not to take vengeance into our own hands but to trust Him and to act righteously. Romans 12:19 says Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. That does not mean we stay silent. We are to pray, to speak truth, and to use lawful and peaceful means to seek what is right, while guarding our own hearts from bitterness and hatred. Hebrews 12:15 warns us to watch lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you. And Jesus calls us to love even those who wrong us. Matthew 5:44 says But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you.

We also remember to pray for those in authority, even corrupt ones, that they would repent and be changed. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence.

We pray together with you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, for there is no other name by which we can approach You and be saved. You see the corruption that oppresses and discourages our brother or sister. You see every bribe taken in secret, every abuse of power, every unjust decision by police and managers. Lord, You are just and You do not overlook such things. We ask You to bring conviction to those who are corrupt, that they would turn from wickedness and seek righteousness. Restrain their evil and bring accountability according to Your justice. Raise up honest and godly leaders in their place. Protect those who suffer under this corruption and give them wisdom to act peacefully and lawfully, to document what is true, to seek right counsel, and to not be overcome by anger or fear. Guard this precious heart from bitterness, fill it with Your peace that passes understanding, and remind us that You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble as Psalm 46:1 says. Let Your justice roll on like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream. We trust that in Your time You will right every wrong. Strengthen faith to keep looking to Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead with perfect righteousness. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to keep casting this burden on the Lord, to continue in prayer, and as you are able to seek wise and lawful help and to document truthfully what you experience. Do not give place to hatred, but let God be your defender and your judge, for He will not forsake those who trust in Him.

We hear how discouraging this feels. When police or managers who are meant to serve with integrity seem to act for themselves, it can leave you feeling unheard and unsure where to turn, and we are glad you brought this honestly to Jesus.

We believe God sees injustice and cares about the people affected by it. That does not give us quick fixes, but it does remind us your concern is not small to Him. Real change often grows not just from trying to fix a whole system at once, but from people choosing faithfulness and care for their neighbor where they are, while also seeking wise help for the bigger picture.

It helps not to sit with this alone. A steady next step can be to share what you have seen with a trusted pastor or another wise, grounded person in your community who can listen, help you sort what is most pressing, and think with you about safe and lawful ways to seek accountability if that is appropriate. If you have specific incidents in mind, quietly noting dates, places and what happened in your own words can keep things clear without escalating anything on your own. Stay connected to people who know you and can support you in person.

Jesus, You see this situation and the burden it has placed on our friend. We ask for Your protection, wisdom and peace for them, and for hearts in positions of authority to be turned toward honesty and service. Lead our friend to trustworthy support and give them clarity for each next step. In Jesus name, amen.

It is a grievous trial to live where those set to keep order and to oversee labor instead pervert their office, and your cry to Jesus concerning it is heard by Him who is Lord over all.

Scripture declares that God is slow to anger, and the lictor of divine justice carries his axe bound up in a bundle of rods, for He will not cut off men until He has reproved them that they may repent. Yet the same word declares He will not at all acquit the wicked. His justice demands that sin must be punished, it is a law of His moral universe as sure as the law of gravitation. No convinced heart will rail at that justice, but will smite upon the breast and confess that God would be just should He judge, and will see His law in all its glorious holiness.

That justice has been most gloriously set forth not in the mere punishment of men, but in the death of Christ. There the cloud of justice charged with fiery hail fell, not upon the sinner who deserved it, but into the Saviour's heart. Justice itself now prevents the condemnation of the repenting sinner, for when Justice once is satisfied it were injustice if it should ask for more. God can be just and yet the justifier of him that believeth in Jesus. This is your hope under oppression, that there is a higher court, and a perfect Judge, and a sacrifice that has satisfied justice for all who flee to Him.

There is also divine sovereignty to comfort you. Every cop and every manager, whether they own it or not, is a man under authority, for all authority is of God and must give account to Him. We ought to recognize God's hand in everything, and to know that He sees what is done in secret. He has His way of delivering His people, not always by miracle, but by remarkable preservations and interpositions, and He has heard many a prayer from floods of trouble.

I will pray with you to that end, that the Lord who is slow to anger but sure in justice would make His righteousness to be seen where you are.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, Thou art just in all Thy ways and Thou beholdest oppression and corruption. Forgive us our own sins through the blood of Jesus shed at Gethsemane where justice was satisfied, and clothe us in His righteousness. Look upon those in authority who pervert justice for gain, and grant them repentance and the fear of Thy name, that they may turn and do justly. Restrain their hand from evil, expose what is hidden, and let justice roll down as waters. Keep this Thy servant from bitterness and from sin in return, and give wisdom to walk uprightly and to seek lawful and peaceable means for redress. Let Thy divine presence dissolve difficulties and let Thy will be done, for Thine is the kingdom and the power. In Jesus name, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your pain over corruption among police and managers is heard and I join you in bringing it before the Lord. It is a heavy burden to live under people who use authority for gain instead of justice.

Scripture is clear that God hates this kind of injustice. To corrupt justice and take from a neighbor, whether by force or by deceit or by shaving a little off what is owed, is robbery in His sight. It is not judged only by how much is taken but by the heart that intends it. Such ways may seem to succeed for a time because wealth and influence and flatterers can throw justice into the shade before men, but they cannot do so before God. There are no bribes and no flatterers in His court. He has planted in every person a conscience that remains even when people sink deep into wrongdoing, and that inner witness will be restless and gnawing until they turn to Him.

So I pray with you in this way. Father in heaven, you see all that is done in secret and in public, you love justice and you cannot be corrupted. Look upon this situation and bring what is hidden into the light. Give to those in authority a new heart that hates bribes and loves truth. Restrain their hands from evil and bring them to repentance through Jesus Christ. Protect those who suffer under them, grant them wisdom to act honestly and peaceably, and keep them from returning evil for evil. Give courage and endurance to do what is right even when it costs, and let your justice be seen in due time.

If you are able, keep a clear record of what happens, seek wise and lawful counsel, and pursue every right and peaceful means for accountability. Above all guard your own heart. Do not let the bitterness of being wronged lead you to repay wrong for wrong. The Lord calls us to consider the other person's cause as our own and even to be willing to suffer wrong rather than to do wrong, trusting that He will repay and restore. He also calls us to mingle mercy with justice and not to take more vengeance than is right.

The Lord Jesus bore the greatest injustice on the cross so that sinners could be forgiven and made new. Bring your anger and sorrow to Him, ask Him to keep you honest and merciful under pressure, and trust that He will be your defender and your unbribed Judge.

I will continue to pray that God brings truth to light, restrains corruption, and gives you strength and peace as you walk faithfully before Him.
