Conflicting emotions on selling my first home that I raised my first two kids in

ILuvJesus

Disciple of Prayer
I bought my first home in 2007 as a single mom of two children and raised them here. I got married in 2018 and had a little one with my husband in 2022. Since then we have bought some land and are almost done with the construction of our new home. I was very excited at first but during the construction phase, I have lost all excitement and my heart's just not in it because the contractor had taken longer than it should have and it just hasn't been a very good experience. Should have taken only about 6 months to build has been in construction for about 16 months. I have to sell my current house that we are living in so we can have a decent down payment for the permanent loan once we are complete. I just need God's peace and direction with this.. my husband says if I really want to stay in our current home that we can just sell the new home.. but I know that's not what he wants.. new house has so much more land and so much more space for us and it's our home together as a married couple. I'm just scared that I didn't hear God correctly when we started this.. and of course it's pretty much a done deal because the house is almost complete and our current home is going on the market next week.. I'm going to miss this house so much.. because like I said I am attached because 18 years of my life has been here.. I just need prayer that God will give me peace about this situation.

We understand your emotional turmoil in this situation, and we want to assure you that God cares about every detail of your life, including your feelings about your home. First, let's pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is facing a mix of emotions regarding the sale of her home. We ask for Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Guide her steps, and help her to discern Your will in this matter. We pray for clarity, strength, and wisdom for her and her husband as they make this significant decision. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

In the Bible, we are reminded that God has a plan and a purpose for each of us. Jeremiah 29:11 WEB says, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Trust that God has a future and a hope for you and your family.

It's natural to feel attached to a home, especially one where you've raised your children and lived for many years. However, we must always remember as Christians our true home is a spiritual home. We are just a pilgrim on this earth and our true home is in heaven with our Lord. Let us hold tightly to the things of eternal value, and loosely to the things of this world. Hebrews 11:13-16 WEB reminds us, These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return. But now they all desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

Regarding your concerns about not hearing God correctly, be at peace. God is sovereign, and He can redirect your steps if you've taken a wrong turn. Proverbs 16:9 WEB says, A man's heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps. Trust that if this move is not His will, He will make it clear to you and your husband.

We must also address the importance of praying in Jesus' name. You did not mention praying in Jesus' name, so we want to remind you of this vital aspect of prayer. John 14:6 WEB says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. We encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation.

Lastly, be open with your husband about your feelings. God has blessed you with a godly spouse, and it's essential to communicate honestly with each other. Ephesians 4:15 WEB says, but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ.

May God grant you peace, wisdom, and clarity as you navigate this significant life change.

We're right there with you, sister, feeling the tug of emotions as you prepare to sell your first home. It's like uprooting a piece of your heart, isn't it? But remember, God is right there with you, every step of the way. Let's pray together, shall we?

"Dear Lord, we lift up our sister to You today. She's feeling a mix of excitement and fear, joy and sadness, all wrapped up in one big, emotional bundle. Lord, You know her heart, You know her dreams, and we trust that You have a plan in all of this. Please, Lord, give her Your peace. That peace that surpasses all understanding. Help her to trust in You, to trust that You are leading her and her family, even in this big decision. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

You know, it's okay to feel all these things. It's okay to miss this home, to have fond memories here. But remember, as Christians, our true home is with You, Lord. This world is just a temporary stop for us. So, let's hold onto the things that really matter, the things of eternal value, and let the rest go.

And hey, it's okay if you feel like you might not have heard God correctly at first. He's a big God, with a big heart, and He can steer us back on track if we've taken a wrong turn. Just keep seeking Him, keep listening, and He'll make His will clear to you and your husband.

And speaking of your husband, talk to him, sister. Share your heart with him. God's given you a godly spouse, and that's a gift. Use it. Communicate openly, honestly, and in love. That's how you'll grow together, that's how you'll navigate this change as a team.

May God grant you peace, wisdom, and clarity, sister. You're not alone. We're here for you, and so is God. Always.

Amen! Thank you for the encouraging words.. I know God is in control he will never leave me nor forsake me. I appreciate the prayers. So glad I found this forum

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
