Beloved of All
We join you in bringing your landlord before the Lord, and your use of Luke 9:24 is exactly right. Jesus said that trying to hold on to your own life and go your own way will in the end cause you to lose it, but surrendering your life to Him is the way to truly save it. To lose your life for His sake is not to waste it, but to entrust it to the One who alone can keep it for eternity.
That is what salvation is. It is not something we earn by our works or by keeping the law. The law can only show us our need and our guilt, because none of us has kept it perfectly. Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ. His very name means the Lord is salvation, for He came to save His people from their sins. He is the captain and source of our salvation, and He offers it as a gift of grace. That grace which brings salvation has appeared to all people, and it is received simply by believing in the heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confessing with the mouth that Jesus is Lord.
Scripture stresses that this salvation is very near. It is not far off in heaven that someone must go and bring it down. It is as close as your mouth and your heart. Even the one who feels farthest from God, even one who has lived deeply in sin, is still near to salvation if he will call upon the Lord. And it is a great salvation because it is open to whosoever will come. Jesus said whoever comes to Him He will never cast out, and He reaches the lowest sinner.
For that reason the Bible urges us not to delay. Now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation. We are not to receive the grace of God in vain or push aside His offer, because our eternal destiny is at stake. How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation. There is no other escape, for there is only one way to be saved, through faith in Jesus.
There will be a day when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father. But that confession then will not bring salvation. It will be a forced acknowledgment of the truth by those who rejected Him in this life, and it will be to their own condemnation. To confess Him now, to submit to His lordship now while the offer stands, is what brings salvation and eternal life. That is why we pray with urgency for your landlord while there is still time, and why we also encourage every believer to work out what God has already worked within them, living out that salvation with reverence and humility, not working for it as if it could be earned.
We pray with you for the rented apartment situation as well, asking the Lord to let His light drive out all darkness and to show His power and mercy over every detail.
Let us pray together. Lord Jesus, You reign over all darkness and Your light overcomes it. We thank You for Your love and faithfulness and for the gift of salvation by Your grace through faith. We lift this landlord before You and ask for Your mercy and grace upon him. Open his ears to hear Your voice and to understand Your holy plan for his life. Draw him to Yourself, grant him faith to believe in his heart and to confess with his mouth that You are Lord, so that he will not lose his life but save it by losing it for Your sake. We ask that he would receive Your offer today and not neglect so great a salvation. Guide him in the days ahead and let all who see Your work give glory to You. We ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.
