Silas
Beloved of All
It is painful to be caught between chills and fever, exhausted with heavy eyes, and worn down by sudden changes in weather. Thank you for bringing this honestly before the Lord and asking for His help.
Scripture shows that Jesus cares deeply about this kind of suffering. When He saw Peter's mother in law lying sick with a fever, He touched her hand and the fever left her and she was able to get up again. That fever was likely the kind common in that region that brought alternating chills and heat, much like what you are describing. Matthew tells us that in healings like this Jesus was fulfilling what Isaiah had spoken, that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. The promise is not only about forgiveness of sin, but also about our bodies. When Jesus broke the bread and said this is My body which is broken for you, He was inviting us to remember that His suffering covers the whole person. He went through the towns and villages preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every sickness and every disease among the people, because He has authority over the physical realm as well as the spiritual.
He never used His power to meet His own physical needs, but He was always willing to use it for the needs of others, and that compassion has not changed. We believe He still heals today. Sometimes that healing is immediate, with a touch, and sometimes it is gradual, through the healing processes He has built into our bodies. Both are from Him. The natural recovery of the body is not less divine because it takes time, for He is the One who created those processes.
At the same time there is much about healing we do not fully understand. Even in the New Testament we see faithful people who were sick for a time, and Paul who saw many miracles also spoke of a fellow worker who was sick nearly to death. Healing is a sovereign work of God and His ways are beyond our finding out. It is wrong to put guilt on the one who is suffering, as if a lack of faith is the reason for continued illness. We can come to Him simply, asking for mercy, and trusting His wisdom and love with the outcome.
We also remember that there is a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. A joyful heart is like good medicine, and caring for the body matters too. Rest when you can, keep warm and get fluids, keep your surroundings clean to help stop the spread of illness, and seek care if the fever and exhaustion continue. These practical steps work together with prayer.
So we pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus we ask for Your healing touch upon this tired and feverish body. Calm the chills and the heat, lift the exhaustion, and give refreshing sleep and strength to the eyes and the whole frame. Whether by Your immediate touch or by Your gracious gradual healing, bring restoration. We ask for Your blessing and favor in every area of life, and we also pray for those who oppose and for enemies, that You would bless them and deliver them from evil and bring them to know Your truth. We rest on Your promise that no weapon formed against Your people shall prosper, and we trust You to keep and sustain through this illness. Amen.
