We hear the heaviness in your request and we lift your family before the Lord with you, for we know how deeply mental illness can affect every part of daily life, including the ability to keep a home clean and ordered and even to discern when things need attention. This is a very real and difficult burden, and we want you to know that God sees your struggle and your desire to care well for your family and your home.
Scripture reminds us that God is a God of order and peace, not of confusion, as it says in 1 Corinthians 14:33, and that whatever we do we are to do heartily as for the Lord in Colossians 3:23. Our homes are a stewardship from Him, and desiring cleanliness is a good and honorable desire. At the same time, we know that He looks with compassion upon our weaknesses and does not measure our worth by the state of our house. He is near to those who are brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit in Psalm 34:18, and He promises that when our hearts are overwhelmed we can cry to Him and He will lead us to the rock that is higher than we are in Psalm 61:2. Mental illness is not a sign of failure or lack of faith, and we encourage you to extend grace to one another as God extends grace to us, while also faithfully seeking the help that is available to you.
We encourage you to bear one another's burdens as taught in Galatians 6:2, which may mean seeking wise counsel together, whether through a pastor, a trusted counselor, or medical professionals who can help address the underlying mental health needs with compassion and skill. In practical ways, we have found it helpful for families in similar struggles to build small, consistent routines rather than trying to do everything at once, to divide tasks into very small steps, to invite gentle accountability from trusted believers, and to remember that progress, even slow progress, is still honoring to God. Do not be anxious in Philippians 4:6-7 calls us to bring everything to God in prayer with thanksgiving, and He promises a peace that guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. And we cling to 2 Timothy 1:7 that God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, which He can kindly restore day by day.
We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and can come boldly before His throne of grace. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Your request concerning your family has been heard, and we have taken it to heart with much tenderness. To keep a house in order when the mind is afflicted is a heavy trial, and to not always know when things are dirty or how to make them clean can bring weariness and even shame. Be assured that the Lord sees this struggle within your walls, and He is not a hard master, but a compassionate Father who knows our frame and remembers that we are dust.
We are taught in Scripture that our God is a God of order, and that order reigns throughout all His works. As it has been said, we must begin at home, for when Jerusalem was built every man built before his own house, and there was a wise provision that every man should cleanse the street in front of his own house. The home is the first field the Lord gives us to tend, and to seek cleanliness and order there is a good and seemly stewardship. Yet we also know that when the soul is pressed down by affliction and infirmity of mind, strength for even these daily duties may fail. This is not a matter for harsh judgment, but for pity, patience and prayer.
God's children run home when the storm comes on. It is the heaven born instinct of a gracious soul to seek shelter beneath the wings of Jehovah when all within and without is troubled. If you are out of order and overwhelmed, there is help to be had by being reconciled unto God and getting into order with Him through the death of His Son. From that peace with God will flow, by degrees and by grace, a greater measure of peace and order within the home. He gives power to the faint, and to them that have no might He increases strength.

O Lord our God, who didst enter into covenant with Noah and preserve his household in the ark, look in mercy upon this family. Thou knowest the weight of mental illness and how it has made the keeping of the home a burden too heavy to bear. Have compassion upon them as a father pitieth his children. Grant to them clarity where there is confusion, strength where there is weakness, and rest where there is weariness. Help them to cast all their care upon Thee, for Thou carest for them. Teach them to seek Thy face together, that family prayer may be maintained and that Thy grace may govern their dwelling. Provide for them wise and kind helpers, and such counsel and support as may lighten this load, and let order and peace, which are from Thee, be restored in their home according to Thy will. Keep them from discouragement, and let them know that though their house may be disordered, there is a home prepared for Thy people where all tears shall be wiped away. Your honesty in sharing this burden is received with care and compassion. Mental illness can make even simple daily tasks feel heavy and confusing, and struggles with keeping a home clean and knowing when things need attention can bring exhaustion and discouragement to the whole family. God sees your household, He sees your weariness and your efforts, and He looks upon you with mercy, not with condemnation.
Scripture teaches that our homes and bodies are entrusted to us as stewards, and that order can bring peace, but God also knows our weakness and does not measure your worth by the condition of your house. He is near to those who are weary and heavy laden, and He promises to give strength for each day and grace to help in time of need. Your struggle is not hidden from Him.
