The fervor of your request is plain, and it is a holy thing to intercede so earnestly for the shepherds and for the salvation of your household. Yet, even as we bring these things before the Lord, we must not neglect the caution of the Apostle, who though persuaded of better things, still did not cease from words of warning, that we may press on to obtain the promised goods. Do not think that the mere multiplication of petitions and verses secures the answer. Faith is required, and even after we have been sanctified, we have need of much faith, that we be not shaken. For nothing is of ourselves, but all of God.

You pray for your pastors and teachers to seek God in prayer, study, and preparation. This is good, for they have been entrusted with nothing less than the salvation of the world, a charge given through the Holy Spirit. But see how Christ prepared them: He did not first demand great things, but breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” The power to teach, to remit sins, to preach the word, comes only from that breathing. Therefore, do not merely ask for their outward diligence; entreat the Lord to fill them with that same Spirit, so that the words they speak are not human but spiritual, and their lives a true witness.

You cry out for your family members to be drawn, to hear and understand, to receive faith and repentance. This is the very glory of the Friend of Man, that the lost should be saved and become many. Yet, do not proceed further and ask, “But how will the Spirit work this in that hard heart?” When nature is at work, we cannot explain the manner; how much less when the Spirit works miracles? The evangelist himself said nothing more than that it was the work of the Holy Ghost. Cease from anxious inquiry, and instead make your own life a clear gospel. Has not Christ first given to you? He gave you to drink of His own cup, the Holy Spirit, when you deserved punishment. Will you now not give Him even cold water? You wish your household to be saved; then clothe Christ in them if they are naked, visit Him if they are sick or bound. Show them a heart that is wisdom, acquainted with Scripture, holding sound doctrine with benevolence and kindness. For without love, there is never any salvation.

You emphasize assembling together and taking the Lord’s Supper. This is needful, but let it not become a thing “gotten out of the way.” When you eat that bread and drink that cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death. But consider: He who has opened heaven to you and delivered you from the most grievous prison does not require a great house or rich vessels. He says, “If you would but look upon Me when I am bound, this suffices.” So when you come to the assembly, do not merely present your body, but bring a soul filled with the Holy Spirit. And how is the Spirit gained in worship? Fill your mouth with psalms and spiritual songs, not with worldly chatter. They who sing psalms are filled with the Holy Spirit, as they who sing satanic songs are filled with an unclean spirit. Teach your family not just to attend, but to sing with understanding, and so be filled.

You ask for the Holy Spirit to convict and convert, to teach and open minds. This is the one gift of the Father, Son, and Spirit, for no one can call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Spirit. Remember the condition from which He called you: you were sitting in darkness, alienated, lost, and suddenly He enlightened you and counted you worthy of the Spirit and adoption. How then can one who has obtained such mercy live as though needing a second baptism? Let your request, then, be not that God would begin again, but that the grace already given would burst into flame in your own heart first, and through you set others ablaze.

Finally, if your heart burns to offer something for the work of the ministry, do not let your zeal be quenched by those who would command all to be sold. But if, before you offer, you are counseled to give to the poor, then do that, for this is to give drink to Christ Himself. And in all things, hold fast to charity, that bosom firmer than adamant, which neither death nor life can rive asunder. For possessing that, you possess the very soul of godliness, and then the salvation you long to see in others will be made manifest by the Spirit who works all in all.

Your prayer rises like incense before the throne. I see in it the very heartbeat of what the Spirit is doing among us, a deep longing for leaders to be anchored in devotion, for the lost to be drawn in by the Father’s own hand, and for whole households to taste the newness of life that only Jesus can give. You have laid hold of the truth that flesh and blood does not reveal the Messiah, but our Father in heaven does, and you are asking Him to work that revelation in every heart that walks through our doors.

What stirs me most as I sit with this is how your requests echo the patience of the Lord. He is not content to let a church drift into mere routine. Over and over, His word calls out, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” That means every gathering, every service, every visit to a home is a moment to listen afresh. He wants worship in spirit and truth, not just songs shaped by tradition, but a living encounter with Him. And He knows we can only offer that when we are daily filled with the Holy Spirit, receiving that sevenfold work described by the prophet: the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord. That is our supply for sound teaching, for loving correction, and for the kind of intercession that covers multitudes of sins.

You prayed for the Holy Spirit’s conviction to fall on your family members. This is a vital thing, because it is the goodness of God that leads people to repentance. Yes, the Spirit convicts of sin, but He does it to draw us into the light of forgiveness, not to drive us away in terror. When we understand that Jesus is the One walking among the lampstands, His eyes like a flame of fire, we also see that His voice is full of love, as many as He loves, He rebukes and chastens. So be relentless in prayer, but also be at rest. The same Spirit who is the seal and down payment of your inheritance is already at work in the lives you are lifting up. He can open minds to understand Scripture, just as He did for the disciples on the road to Emmaus, and He does it through ordinary means: a friend’s testimony, a tract left on a table, a home visit, the preached Word.

Do not grow weary in asking. The church has prayed for centuries with seeming delay, yet the answer is sure. John was caught up by the Spirit to see things that must be hereafter, and one day the whole redeemed family from every tribe and tongue will cry out with one voice, “Salvation belongs to our God!” That is our future. Until then, we are a kingdom of priests in training, learning to reign by serving and to worship with undivided hearts. So keep praying for your leaders to have that kind of vision. Keep interceding for those who have wandered from truth, because pulling them back is pulling them toward a crown of life that the second death cannot touch.

What you do in your private room, longing for the Holy Spirit to sweep through our gatherings, is not a small thing. It is the very posture of the Bride, listening for the Bridegroom’s voice and making herself ready. He is faithful, and He will do it.

We are deeply grateful for the privilege to stand in agreement with you in prayer for our church leaders—pastors, teachers, worship leaders, and preachers—as they seek God daily in prayer, devotion, and preparation. It has been our joy to lift up their need for the Holy Spirit’s anointing, wisdom in study, and humility in teaching, that the Word of God would be received in faith and revelation by every heart in the congregation.

We have prayed fervently for families—both members and visitors—to be drawn to the house of God, that they would hear the message of Christ crucified with understanding, repentance, and saving faith. We have asked the Lord to grant freedom in worship, protection from the evil one, and a deep hunger for His Word, that none would perish but all would come to the knowledge of the truth. We have interceded for the conviction and conversion of the lost, trusting that the Holy Spirit would open minds to understand Scripture and hearts to receive salvation.
