Which Church?
The Old Homestead
The Heart-a Den of Evil
We join you in this burden for the church, for its leaders, and for the lost and for your own family to be drawn in to hear the Word of God.

We hear your heart for pastors and preachers to be men who seek God first in prayer and daily devotion, who intercede for the congregation, who study the Word diligently and live it, who teach sound doctrine and shepherd families faithfully both in the larger assembly and house to house. This is the biblical pattern, for God calls shepherds to be examples and to feed the flock. As it is written in Acts 2:42 They continued steadfastly in the apostles teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and prayer, and in 2 Tim 2:15 Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth. We pray that every leader would walk in that diligence and that the worship and preaching would be in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the truth of Scripture.

We also stand with you for the salvation of the lost within the church walls and for your family members to be drawn by the Father himself. Jesus said in John 6:44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and we know that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ in Rom 10:17. So we pray for hunger for the Word as in 1 Pet 2:2 As newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby, and for the Spirit of revelation as in Eph 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. For as Jesus told Peter in Matt 16:17 flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven, we ask the Father to reveal Christ to each one by name.

We agree with you that none would perish, for the Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance in 2 Pet 3:9, and that God desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth as in 1 Tim 2:4. We claim the promise in Acts 16:31 Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household, and we pray that where there is no vision the people cast off restraint in Prov 29:18, the Lord would give vision by the Holy Spirit. Where your loved ones have suffered from lack of knowledge as in Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, and where there is a famine of hearing the words of Yahweh as in Amos 8:11, we pray the Lord would open their minds to understand the Scriptures as in Luke 24:45 and that the Holy Spirit would convict as promised in John 16:8 When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment, and guide into all truth as in John 16:13 However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth.

We pray also for protection, for you asked rightly that they be kept from the evil one as Jesus prayed in John 17:15 I pray not that you would take them from the world, but that you would keep them from the evil one, and that they be delivered from temptation and evil as in Matt 6:13 Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, and from stumbling blocks as in Rom 14:13 and 1 Cor 8:9 and from deception and evil people as in 2 Thes 3:2-3 May the Lord be faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. We take comfort that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble in Ps 46:1, and that he says in Isa 41:10 Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness, and as in Deut 4:7 For what great nation is there that has a god so near to them, as Yahweh our God is whenever we call on him.

We lift up your family to not forsake assembling together as in Heb 10:25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching, and to continue to eat the bread and drink the cup often in remembrance of the Lord who was crucified for our sins, for as Paul says in Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me, and that in 1 Cor 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lords death until he comes. We pray they will come tonight and tomorrow with faith to pray and receive as in Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, all things whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them, and with confidence as in 1 John 5:14 This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.

Father, we thank you for the message of your Anointed One crucified for our sins. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only by that name we have access to you and there is no other name by which we can be saved, that you would draw our families to your house to hear and understand what the Spirit is saying. Grant repentance and faith, forgiveness of sins and newness of life. Let your Word be heard and believed, let the lost be sought and saved as in Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost, and let every promise be Yes in Christ as in 2 Cor 1:20 For however many are the promises of God, in him is the Yes. We ask all this according to your will, in Jesus name, Amen.

We hear your love for your church and for your family in this prayer, and we are grateful to stand with you in it. Wanting your pastors to stay rooted in prayer and the Word, and wanting your family to be drawn in to hear and understand what God is saying, are good and faithful things to bring before the Father.

We know that kind of hunger and growth does not happen all at once. It is a lifelong walk, with highs and lows, and it is shaped over time as we keep returning to the Word, to prayer, to worship together, and to dependence on the Holy Spirit to make anything grow. Your steady intercession for your leaders and your loved ones is part of that work.

One simple next step alongside your praying could be a personal invitation. If you are able, reach out individually to each family member you are praying for today and invite them to come with you tonight or tomorrow, offering to save a seat or give a ride. A brief, quiet prayer together before you leave for the service can also help settle hearts to listen.

Father, we lift our pastors to You and ask that You refresh them as they seek You, study, and prepare to serve Your people. We ask that You draw each member of this family to gather with Your people and to hear Your Word with open hearts. Give them a true hunger to know You, keep them from the evil one and from anything that would distract or deceive, and lead them in Your will. We trust them to Your care in Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer has risen as incense before the Lord and we do heartily join our supplications with yours at the throne of grace.

We entreat the Father who is ever present to help, that He would pour out His Spirit upon the pastors and preachers of His church, that they may seek Him in secret prayer and daily devotion, in faithful study of the Word and in holy intercession for the souls committed to their charge. May their lives be sound, their teaching pure, and their visiting of families and house churches be blessed to the building up of the body in love. For we know that no man can come unto Christ except the Father draw him, and we pray that He will indeed draw by His own sovereign power.

We plead also for your household and for all families that they may not forsake the assembling of themselves together, but may be found continuing steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread and in prayers. Grant unto them, O Lord, a hunger for the sincere milk of the Word, and open their minds that they may understand the Scriptures, for flesh and blood reveals not the Christ but our Father which is in heaven. Let the Holy Spirit convict and convert, teach all things and guide into all truth, that faith may come by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

And in this we pray for that true repentance which is unto life. Not a carnal repentance wrought by fear or judgment, but that holy and heavenly repentance which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit and which gives God glory. We have learned that repentance and faith are inseparable graces, that they come into the soul together as twin graces born from above. No true faith is without a hearty and sincere repentance for past sin, and no true repentance is without faith in Jesus Christ crucified. We ask not for a perfect measure, for the least faith saves if it be sincere, even as a grain of mustard seed, and the least repentance saves if it be true, for it is the gift of God and the germ which contains all the essentials of salvation. May He grant unto those for whom you pray that repentance which needs not to be repented of, with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the finished work of Christ.

We ask that faith may be found in them as a receptive faith, an empty hand held out for heavenly alms, receiving Christ and believing on His name. We rest not upon our faith, our repentance, our prayers or our likeness to Christ, but upon Jesus Christ crucified alone, who is all our salvation, the Author and the Finisher of faith. For salvation by grace through faith and the operations of the Holy Spirit must be consistent, and simple faith is always the work of the Spirit who bears testimony concerning Christ.

Give vision, we pray, lest the people perish, and protect them from the evil one, from temptation, from stumbling blocks, from wrongdoing and fear and lies, from evil men and imposters and all deception and sin. Keep them from that lack of knowledge by which souls are destroyed and from that famine of hearing the Word of the Lord. As often as they eat the bread and drink the cup may they do so in remembrance of Him with faith to pray and to receive, believing that when we ask according to His will He hears us.

We leave the whole matter of salvation with Him in unquestioning confidence, depending upon Him without fear for present and eternal salvation, for He wills that none should perish but that all should come to repentance and to the knowledge of the truth as it is in Jesus. May He seek and save the lost, and add to the church daily such as should be saved, to the praise of His glorious grace.

We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, in whom all the promises are yea and amen.
