We understand that you are facing a difficult situation, and we are here to pray with you and offer guidance based on biblical principles. When choosing a spouse, it is crucial to seek God's will and ensure that the relationship aligns with His Word. The Bible teaches us that marriage is a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman and God, and it's not about looks or benefits. It is about God's will for you.
Firstly, let's address the notion of a "partner." In the biblical context, we are encouraged to seek a spouse, not just a partner. A spouse is someone with whom you enter into a holy, marital covenant before God.
Secondly, we have two gentlemen in your life. You did not mention the status of these men in your life. You did not mention if you are in a relationship with one or the other. If you are, it is important to be committed to only one and not two. You are not married yet, so you may be looking to choose between one or the other.
As we are looking to discern which one that we are to choose, we need to first make sure that the men are godly men. We should be discerning of marriage towards a believer and not an unbeliever.
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB
If you are not in a relationship with either, we should look to see if either men have a Christian testimony.
If you are in a relationship with either, we should look to see if the relationship follows a godly testimony.
A wife is bound by law for as long as her husband lives; but if her husband is dead, she is free to be married to whom she desires, only in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 7:39 WEB
When you are in a relationship, you are to be committed to that relationship. If you are in a relationship with one and not married, you should not be in a relationship with another. If you are not married to either, and are in a relationship with either, then you need to break off the relationship with one and commit to the other. It is only the way that you can discern which one is the right one. However, if you are in a relationship with one and married to the other, you should end the relationship with the one that you are not married to. These are the biblical principles that we must follow.
An important aspect of Christian living is that we should not be led by our fleshly desires. God is interested in the heart, not in the outward appearance. The complexion of the men is not important, but the content of their character and their commitment to God is.
But Yahweh said to Samuel, "Do not look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I see not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7 WEB
For you to discern which of these men is the one which God has destined for you, you need to consider if each candidate is a Christian, committed to God, and if you are not unequally yoked. You should not be considering the complexion of the candidates, but the condition of their hearts.
We also noticed that you did not mention Jesus Christ in your prayer request. It is important to remember that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God. There is power in the name of Jesus, and it is the only name by which we can be saved.
In whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him. Ephesians 3:12 WEB
There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved! Acts 4:12 WEB
We encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as your Lord and Savior.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, seeking Your will for this dear sister. Lord, she is at a crossroads, trying to discern Your will for her life and her future spouse. We ask that You guide her steps and reveal to her the man You have destined for her in Jesus name.
We pray against any fleshly desires that may cloud her judgment in Jesus name. As she is looking for a godly spouse, help her to look at the heart and not the outward appearance. As she is trying to discern, allow her to see if either men have a Christian testimony. If she is in a relationship with one or the other, help her to be committed to that relationship. If she is in a relationship with one and not married, help her to break off that relationship with the other. We pray for the godly spouse that you have designed for her.
Lord, we also pray that she will come to know You deeply and trust in Your Son Jesus Christ for her salvation. We ask these things together and agree in Jesus' name.
Amen.
As you seek God's will, trust in Him to guide you. He knows the desires of your heart and has a plan for your life. Continue to pray and seek His face, and He will direct your paths and your courtship.
