CHOOSING THE FEAR OF GOD!
By Bibleman
“The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant†(Ps. 25:14).
Are you one of those people who never seem to be successful in anything you do? Maybe you suffer one hardship after another. Maybe your life is characteristic of one tragic circumstance after another? Have you suffered many losses and wonder why you never seem to be blessed with good luck and success? Does God seem to be very distant? Does it seem like He never answers any of your prayers or changes your circumstances? Maybe you have serious marital problems or family problems? If this seems like your life then you may need to choose the fear of God.
CURSES AND HARDSHIPS
When you seem to only experience one hardship after another; it may be because you are not living right (Deut. 28:14-68). The Bible says that those who do the sinful things they want to do without regard to God’s moral laws will “eat the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own devices†(Prov. 1:31). All who rebel against God and His divine laws for righteous living will only experience anguish and pain in their lives (Prov. 1:24,27; Jer. 5:23,24; Job 15:20-25). They will have no assurance of their life or health (Deut. 7:15; Isa. 1:18-20). They will be subject to distress, terror and destruction (Prov. 1:26,27; Job 18:19-21).
But if you choose the fear of God you will receive the blessings of God instead of curses and hardships (Deut. 28:2; Ps. 115:13; 128:1). “Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways†(Ps. 128:1). The man who fears the Lord and walks in his ways will be blessed with success, happiness, and a blessed family. (Ps. 128:2-4). God-fearing people will be satisfied in life and they will not be visited with curses, hardships or evil (Prov. 19:23). So if you want to be happy and satisfied in life become a God-fearing person!
SICKNESS AND POOR HEALTH
Ever wonder why you battle so much sickness in your life and why your health is poor? It may be because you do not walk in all of his righteous ways (Deut. 8:5, 6). Those who do not fear God will be subject to much sickness and disease (Deut. 7:15). A person who does not fear God will have no assurance of their health or their life (Lk. 6:46-49; Prov. 1:24-32). If you refuse to listen to and obey the counsels of God you could be subject to all the sickness and disease that the Israelites suffered.
But if you choose the fear of God and you love Him and keep his righteous laws He will “…take away from thee all sickness…†(Deut. 7:11-15). The Bible tells us that God wants us to prosper and be in good health. Our physical health however, depends largely on our spiritual health (3 Jn. 2). If we are righteous, obedient, God-fearing people we will be blessed with long life and good health (Deut. 5:33; 6:2; Prov. 10:27). God provides the blessings of healing and good health to those who fear him (Prov. 3:7,8; 9:11; Mal. 4:2). Do you want your days to be multiplied and the years of your life increased (Prov. 9:11)? Do you want to live a life free from sickness and disease? Do you want to enjoy good health? Then “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel and marrow to thy bones (Prov. 3:7,8)!
FINANCIAL HARDSHIP
Ever wonder why you struggle to make ends meet and never seem to have enough, even when you work hard? If you work hard but are still always lacking; it may be because you are not in compliance with the principles God has established for you to be successful (Hag. 1:6-7; Deut. 8:6-10). Do you honor Him with your substance and the first fruits of your increase so you can receive His blessing of prosperity (Prov. 3:9,10)? Do you help people in need and avoid mistreating those around you (Isa. 58:7-11; 2 Cor. 9:6)? Does God and His righteousness have first place in your heart (Ps. 34:10; Mt. 6:33)? Do you diligently study God’s word and apply it to your life on a daily basis (Deut. 29:9; Josh. 1:8; Ps. 1:1-3; Lk. 11:28; Jam. 1:25)? Do you place your trust in God instead of worrying about your circumstances (Ps. 34:22; 37:3)? Are you a good and faithful steward who manages the money and finances, God has given you, wisely (1 Sam. 26:23; Lk. 19:15-24)?
If you answered yes to all those questions then you are a God-fearing person who will rewarded with the blessings of provision, satisfaction, success and prosperity! The Bible says you will never be down and out but will prosper and be satisfied like a well-watered garden (Isa. 58:11). God will provide for all your needs and you will not lack any good thing (Ps. 34:10). Your barns will overflow with abundance and you will be prosperous and successful in everything you do (Prov. 3:10)! The Lord promises to make your way prosperous and give you good success if you will “observe to do according to all that is written†(Josh. 1:8)!
WRATH AND JUDGMENT
The man or woman who continues to resist and rebel against God will eventually be subject to God’s anger and destructive wrath (Deut. 6:13-16). God will be hard to find when calamity strikes and He will seem non-existent. The Bible declares that all who despised His wisdom and instruction will be subject to severe hardships and judgments (Prov. 1:25-31). God will treat them the same way they treated
Him. He will despise them and laugh at their calamity. He will not answer their prayers or help them when in trouble (Prov. 1:28; 10:24; Job 15:20-25; 18:11). Those persistent in their evil ways may be consumed with death and destruction (Deut. 7:4;1 Sam. 12:25; Isa. 1:28). Only fearful consequences await those who reject the counsels of God including: curses, disasters, destruction, desolation, condemnation, anguish, punishment, judgment, death, and damnation (Deut. 17:19-13; Job 31:3; Prov. 1:26, 27; 10:24; Isa. 2:10; Jer. 4:4; 22:1-10; Mt. 10:28; Lk. 12:5;23:40; 2 Cor. 5:10,11; 2 Pet. 3:10-12; Rev. 14:9,10). The bottom line is either fear God or fear the consequences of your sinful behavior and the wrong choices you make in life.
But if you choose the fear of God, He will protect you and deliver you and preserve you from these troubles, disasters, judgments, hardships, and fearful consequences (Deut. 6:24; 2 Ki. 17:39; Ps. 25:19; 34:17). You will dwell safely from all the storms and disasters and you will not be visited with calamity and destruction (Prov. 1:33; 19:23; Lk. 6:49) “But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely , and be quiet from fear of evil†(Prov. 1:33). Don’t let your sinful behavior block all the good things God wants to give you (Jer. 5:25)! “Your iniquities have turned away these things (your blessings), and your sins have withholden good things from you.†(Jer. 5:25)!
CHOOSING THE FEAR OF GOD
Dear Heavenly Father, I realize I have not been a God-fearing person. Forgive me of all my backslidings, lukewarmness and for doing my own things without regard to Your moral laws ( Prov. 1:7, 25-32; 14:2; Forgive me of my stubbornness and for refusing to walk in all Your ways. Forgive me for rejecting and resisting Your holy counsel and for despising Your corrective discipline and reproof (Prov. 1:24-32). Forgive me for not accepting all your precepts and walking therein. Cleanse me and forgive me of all my unrighteousness and disregard for Your holy ways (Jn. 1:6-9). Change me and reprove my ways Lord, and give me wisdom and knowledge to understand Your holy ways (Prov. 1:30; 2:1-3). Help me to depart from all evil and walk uprightly (Job 28:28; Prov. 3:7; 14:2, 27; 16:6). Let not stubbornness, good times, pleasure or prosperity keep me from a right relationship with You (Prov. 1:32; Jn. 3:20,21, 1 Jn.1:6). I choose to be a God-fearing person who obeys the Word of God and applies it to my life (Prov. 1:33; Lk. 6:46-48; Jam. 1:21,22). Help me, Lord, to be a God-fearing person who walks in all Your ways, and who loves You and serves You with all my heart and with all my soul (Deut. 10:12; Matt. 22:37), in the name of Jesus Christ, I ask these things, amen
