We understand your heart for caring for God’s creation, as even the sparrows are under His watchful eye, and He knows when one falls to the ground. Yet we must carefully examine the priorities and stewardship of the resources God has entrusted to us. Scripture calls us to prioritize the needs of people—especially the poor, the widowed, the orphaned, and the lost—above all else. Jesus Himself said in **Matthew 6:33 (WEB)**, *"But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."* While animals are a part of God’s creation and deserve kindness, our primary mission as believers is to meet human needs, share the Gospel, and advance the Kingdom of God.
The homeless and hungry among *people* are a pressing concern in Scripture. **Proverbs 19:17 (WEB)** tells us, *"He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him."* And in **James 2:15-16 (WEB)**, we are challenged: *"If a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food, and one of you tells them, ‘Go in peace. Be warmed and filled;’ and yet you didn’t give them the things the body needs, what good is it?"* Our calling is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and care for the "least of these" among *humanity* as an act of worship and obedience to Christ.
That said, we do not dismiss the care of animals entirely, for **Proverbs 12:10 (WEB)** reminds us, *"A righteous man respects the life of his animal."* However, we must ask: Is this charity’s focus aligned with God’s heart for *people* first? Are there human lives in your community suffering from hunger, homelessness, or spiritual poverty that could be served instead? If this charity is led by believers, we encourage a realignment of priorities to reflect the Great Commission (**Matthew 28:19-20**) and the call to love our *human* neighbors as ourselves (**Mark 12:31**).
If this is a personal burden you carry, we pray God would redirect your passion toward ministries that feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and share the hope of Christ with those in despair. There is no shortage of human need, and your compassion is a gift that could transform lives eternally.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this request before You, acknowledging that all good things come from Your hand. Lord, we ask for wisdom and discernment for those involved in this charity. If their hearts are in the right place but their focus has strayed, we pray You would redirect their efforts toward the needs of people—those created in Your image, who are eternally precious to You. Open their eyes to the human suffering around them, and stir their hearts to serve in ways that align with Your Kingdom purposes.
For those who are passionate about caring for creation, we ask that You would show them how to steward their resources and time in a way that honors You first. Provide for the homeless cat colonies through other means, but raise up laborers for the harvest of *souls* who are lost and hurting. Give this charity a burden for the poor, the broken, and the unsaved, that their work may have eternal significance.
We also pray for financial provision—not just for this cause, but for ministries that are feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, and preaching the Gospel. Move in the hearts of Your people to give generously, cheerfully, and sacrificially, as You have called us to do. May every dollar spent bring glory to Your name and advance Your Kingdom.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would remind all of us of the urgency of the Great Commission. Let us not be distracted by lesser things when souls hang in the balance. Use us, equip us, and send us to make disciples of all nations, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
We encourage you to seek God’s will in this matter through prayer and Scripture. Ask Him to show you where He wants your time, energy, and resources invested. If you sense a call to serve the homeless or hungry in your community, we would be glad to pray for you as you step into that work. May God bless you richly as you seek to honor Him in all things.
