It is not in the abundance of light or the sweetness of air that our peace consists, but in the well-ordered soul that gives thanks in every circumstance. Nevertheless, God cares for the small needs of His children, and it is right to bring such requests before Him and the church. Pray then, and I join my prayers to yours, that if it be for your good and His glory, the room may be changed. Yet be ready to accept whatever He appoints, knowing that He often grants not what we wish, but what truly profits us. For as I have often said, night and day, winter and summer, sickness and health, all these He mingles for our training. Do not marvel when your body is in pain or your surroundings are less than pleasant; rather marvel when all goes smoothly, for that is the rare season requiring greater watchfulness.

You speak of the trial of health this past year. See how even that has been a schoolmaster, teaching you patience and weaning you from reliance on the flesh. The same Lord who permitted the illness now permits the discomfort of your monthly pains. Do not despise this small affliction; it is an opportunity to mortify the body and lift the soul toward heaven. When the body is kept low, it is less easily overcome by the passions. So bear these days with courage, and do not let pain cast you down or make you peevish toward others. The meetings with teachers and parents are not distractions but duties where your steadfastness, even in pain, may shine as a witness to the grace of Christ.

I would say also: do not think that a change of classroom, if granted, will secure your happiness, nor that the pain of this coming week will be without fruit. Our souls resemble the sea when they shift with every breeze; but the soul instructed in virtue remains calm in storm and calm alike. Set your hope on the unchangeable prizes of heaven, and these temporal fluctuations, whether a dim room or a cramping body, will lose their power to trouble you. Pray, then, and give thanks; for tribulation works patience, and patience proven character, and character hope that does not disappoint. May the Lord grant you strength and make you mindful that He is near in every need, both great and small.

I’m bringing your request before the Lord with you. It’s good that you reached out, because none of us are meant to carry these burdens alone, and God invites us to cast every care on Him because He cares for you.

You’re right to ask for prayer about the classroom. The place where you teach matters, not just for your own health, but because an environment with fresh air and natural light can help you pour out your best for those students. God knows the details of that vacant room, and He knows the heart of your principal. He can move in situations that feel uncertain to us. I’m praying that, if it aligns with His will, that door opens and you’re moved into a space where you can teach without the distraction of that smell and the heaviness of a sunless room. Even if human policies seem rigid, God is not limited. He can make a way where there seems to be none.

While you wait, remember that God often uses uncomfortable seasons to teach us deeper reliance on Him. A dim room won’t stop the light of His presence from shining into your heart and giving you strength for each day. You’re not just teaching subject matter, you’re teaching by example, showing those children what it looks like to trust God through difficulty. And as you give out to them, God is also doing a work in you. The very act of teaching in a challenging setting can deepen your own faith and keep you anchored in truth.

I’m also praying for your physical pain as your period begins. Our bodies are so limited in this fallen world, and pain can wear down the spirit. The Scriptures don’t brush that aside, they groan with us, longing for the day when these mortal bodies are traded for something new, like a caterpillar that emerges into a body designed for a completely different environment. That’s your future certainty if you belong to Jesus. For now, though, He doesn’t ask you to pretend you’re not hurting. He sees you. He understands the ache of a body that doesn’t cooperate, and He promises grace enough to carry you through the meetings with colleagues and parents. Lean on Him in the middle of the pain. Ask Him to be your strength when you have none left of your own.

Real change, whether of a classroom or of a body’s weakness, comes from His hand. We can’t simply will our circumstances into something better. But we can trust the One who never changes, who keeps every promise, to work good out of this and to transform us through it. I’m asking Him to change that classroom situation for your good and His glory, and to change your pain into patient endurance as you keep your eyes on Him. May He sustain you, give you relief, and let His presence be your light even where sunlight doesn’t reach.

We are so thankful that you entrusted us with your prayer requests, both for your classroom situation and for your health during this busy season. It has been our privilege to stand in agreement with you, lifting up your need for a healthier and more suitable workspace to the Lord. We prayed for wisdom for your principal and for favor in your request, knowing that God cares about even the practical details of our lives.

We also continued to pray for your strength and comfort during this time of physical discomfort, especially as you prepare for meetings with teachers and parents. May the Lord grant you His peace and grace, sustaining you in every way as you serve Him in your school community.

If the Lord has answered your prayers—whether through a change in classrooms, improved health, or simply His sustaining presence—we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you! If your circumstances remain unchanged, please know we are still here to lift you up. You are welcome to post this request again so we can continue praying alongside you.

May God bless you abundantly as you seek Him, and may His light shine upon your work and your health. We pray all these things in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
