Good and Faithful Servant
There was a moth on my patio this morning when I took my cats outside and although I tried to hide it from my cats, I'm concerned one of them may have eaten it because I later came back to find the hiding spot where I'd placed it turned over and the moth gone. Please pray for their safety and health. Please also pray for my pets who have been scratching too much to the point of harming themselves even when their nails are trimmed. We don't have a vet for them in this area and don't know of a good one. I have a lot of anxiety with vets because we've had some really bad experiences with them. Thank you.

We understand your concern for your beloved pets and the anxiety you feel regarding their health and well-being. First, let us assure you that God cares deeply for all His creation, including the animals He has entrusted to our care. In Matthew 10:29, Jesus tells us, "Aren’t two sparrows sold for an assarion coin? Not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will." If God is mindful of even the smallest creatures, how much more does He care for your cats?

Regarding the moth, while it’s natural to worry, moths are not typically toxic to cats. However, we will pray for your pets’ safety and that their bodies will handle anything unusual without harm. For their excessive scratching, we encourage you to seek out natural remedies, such as coconut oil or oatmeal baths, which may soothe their skin while you look for a trustworthy vet. We also pray that God would lead you to a compassionate and skilled veterinarian in your area, one who will care for your pets with the same love you have for them.

Your anxiety about vets is understandable, especially after difficult experiences. But we encourage you to bring those fears to the Lord, trusting that He can guide you to the right people. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of concern for these precious animals You have placed in our care. Lord, we ask for Your protection over them. If any harm has come from the moth, we pray that You would neutralize it and keep them safe. For their scratching, we ask for Your healing touch, soothe their skin, ease their discomfort, and guide their owner to the right solutions, whether through natural remedies or a vet You have prepared for them.

Father, we also lift up the anxiety in our hearts. We know that fear does not come from You, and we ask that You replace it with Your peace. Lead us to a vet who will care for these pets with wisdom and compassion. Help us to trust in Your provision and to remember that You hold all things in Your hands. We ask these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the Great Healer and Provider. Amen.

We encourage you to keep seeking the Lord’s guidance as you care for your pets. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." God sees your love for your pets and your desire to do what’s best for them. Lean on Him, and He will direct your steps.

That worry about what our pets get into when we’re not watching, we understand it well. The moment you realize the moth was gone and the hiding spot was overturned, your mind probably went straight to the worst-case scenario. Most moths and common insects aren't toxic to cats, but we hear how much you love them and want to protect them.

What seems even heavier here is the anxiety around finding veterinary care, especially after being hurt by past experiences. That kind of trust is hard to rebuild, and the scratching you describe, to the point of harming themselves, needs a professional’s eyes. We’d gently encourage you to ask around, even in a new area. Sometimes a neighbor, a local pet supply shop employee, or a community social media group can point you toward a vet known for gentleness and patience. You don’t have to commit to the first name you hear, but gathering a few recommendations might give you a starting place when you feel ready. You’re not being difficult or unreasonable by wanting someone who will care for them well; that’s just good stewardship of the lives entrusted to you.

Father, we bring these cats to You, the one who ate the moth, and those scratching and uncomfortable. Calm ###’s heart, and protect these little animals from any harm. Guide this household to a veterinarian who will be thorough, kind, and trustworthy. Quiet the anxiety that past wounds have left, and grant wisdom and courage when it’s time to make the call. In Jesus’ name we ask it.

You are anxious about your creatures, yet anxiety itself brings no grist to the mill. The moth is gone; the cats scratch; the heart frets, but does this worry light a candle in your dark? It is a dark night, but the darkness of your heart will not light a candle for you. The very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. Do not be so affected by external things as to get into a state of worry, fretfulness, care, anxiety and distress.

Your unbelief makes you forget that health still remains for you if poverty oppresses you, and if both health and abundance have departed, you are still a child of God and your name is not blotted out from the roll of the chosen. There grows no healing herb but the one plant of renown. There is one sacred Fountain, to wash therein is health, there is but one, it was opened on Calvary. The leaves of that tree are for the healing of all your disquietudes, yes, and for the healing of these poor beasts, if it please the Lord. Believe in the absent and invisible Christ, that He is still as mighty as though you could see Him walking the waves, or multiplying the loaves, or healing the sick, or raising the dead. He has gone away into Glory for our good, and is doing for us upon His Throne what could not so advantageously have been done for us here.

As for these scratching creatures, and the terror of former dealings with men of skill, cast the burden upon Him who careth for you. Oftentimes when, by some sin, a body is weakened, its cure is much helped by repenting and forsaking the uncleanness. But coming from the Savior, who knows what strong temptations mean, for He has felt the same, His word drops like virgin honey for sweetness and like the balm of Gilead for healing power. Jesus says, "Let not your heart be troubled." His own face was towards the Cross, and from that Cross flows all remedy.

The Lord has begun to heal us, and the healing virtue which His Grace has infused into us will work us health and cure till we shall be without spot or wrinkle. And His salvation will also perfectly heal our bodies in that day when the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings. You are on your way to eternal health. Why should you, then, say in your soul, "I am sick"? If a woman could be quite sure that she would be in perfect health tomorrow, she would say little about the sickness of an hour.

Instead of toying like a glittering insect, wasting your little day in this flutter of heart, go now to the great Physician. Let not anxiety about a moth or a veterinarian steal your peace, but pray, truly pray, and believe that He who marks the sparrow's fall has numbered the very scales on a moth's wing, and watches over the least of your household. It were wiser to trust a spider's web than the arm of flesh, whether your own or another's; but it is wisdom itself to lean upon the Beloved. His leaves are for healing; drop them upon your fears and upon your animals, until that golden age dawns when the whole earth shall be the abode of moral and physical health.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You ask for prayer over a moth your cat may have eaten, and for comfort concerning your pets that scratch themselves raw. I will pray for these creatures, for God cares for all He has made, and not a sparrow falls to the ground without His notice. Yet your soul is tossed like a little boat upon a stormy sea over this moth, and over past wrongs done by unskilled veterinarians. Why is your heart so troubled? Is there anything dreadful to the one who fears God? He who has learned to rest upon the unshaken Rock will not let such small matters sweep him into a tempest of anxiety. The same man who one hour laughs and the next hour weeps has not yet built his house upon that Rock.

Your care for your animals is right, for the righteous man regards the life of his beast. But if you allow worry over a hidden moth or a scratching cat to steal the peace of your soul, you are placing these things above your own soul’s health. Your cats bear the image of the Creator in their way, but your soul bears it in a far higher manner. Do not let anxiety over their bodies make you forget to tend your own spirit. Pray for them, seek a skilled and honest caretaker for them, but refuse to let fear rule you. If one physician failed, shall you refuse all medicine? That is the way of the insane who revile the very remedies that bring health. Gently and wisely search out a trustworthy vet, and meanwhile commit your pets into the hands of the One who sustains every living thing.

But above all, awaken from the deep slumber of worldly cares. You have a soul that will live forever, talents to increase for the eternal Kingdom, oil to gather for your lamp. Do not spend your short life in such fretting that you knock in vain at the door when the Bridegroom comes. Cast all this burden upon the Lord, and let your heart become solid and well-instructed in virtue. Then even the loss of a pet, or their illnesses, will not overthrow your calm. Let us flee to that Rock, and there find peace in the haven of His will.

Your concern for your pets is not too small for the Lord. He cares for every creature He has made, and He invites you to bring every worry to Him. When you saw that hiding spot overturned and the moth gone, fear tried to take hold. That moment exposed where your heart naturally turns, to anxiety over what might have happened. But God offers you something better than the endless replay of “what if.” He calls you to entrust even this small uncertainty into His hands. His care reaches the smallest details of your life, and He is able to safeguard what belongs to you. The same Lord who shut the lions’ mouths and watched over a fleeing man in the wilderness has not stopped watching over your household.

The scratching troubles you deeply, and the thought of finding a vet reopens old wounds. Those past experiences have left behind a real, painful mark. But living governed by fear will only make you a servant to it. When your heart cries, “I don’t know where to go, and I’m afraid to trust anyone,” that is the very place to stop relying on your own cleverness and your own wounded instincts. Stop striving to control this by yourself. God’s secret counsel is with those who fear Him; He can lead you to a provider you haven’t yet found, perhaps one who will treat both your pets and your trust with gentleness. Ask Him for that, and then watch for a door to open.

You were made in God’s image, with the capacity to choose. Right now, you can choose to lay these burdens at His feet instead of carrying them alone all day. You can choose to believe that His way for you in this is good, not harmful. The dogged independence that says “I must figure this out myself” only deepens the anxiety. But when you surrender that, God can grant you an inward change, a quiet confidence that He is directing your steps, even toward a new veterinarian.

Let this be a moment where you turn from the old habit of being overwhelmed. Instead of letting the worry play the fool with your peace, let your need drive you to the only true refuge. Pray for the health of your cats. Pray for wisdom about the scratching. Ask God to cause His face to shine upon you in this practical need. He desires to bring health and peace, not only to your pets’ bodies, but to your heart. Trust that He can govern this situation righteously, and let your spirit rest in that.
