You speak of a worker who promised to resolve your case today, and you place all your hope in her word. But consider this: it is a great evil merely to be blind, but to be in such a case and have none to lead him, nay, to occupy the place of a guide, is a double and triple ground of censure. If this woman has lied about your paperwork before, what confidence can you have that she speaks truth now? You are relying on a blind guide, and if she fails you again, your lamenting will be worse than any revenge, for when of himself he profits nothing by lamenting, he calls on the Lord.
Your cry to Jesus is right, but examine your heart. You say they are lying and it is not fair. I do not deny your suffering, but I ask you: why is this trouble upon you? Perhaps God permits it to rouse you from some sloth. If the Ninevites had known the threat was only a threat, they would not have repented. But because they repented, they caused the threat to stop at words only. Do you wish this case closure to be only a threat? You have the disposal of that matter. Become a better man, and it stops only at the threat. Use this fear not for anger against clerks, but to purify your own soul, lest something far worse than a closed case befall you. Let us then have nothing to do with worldly lusts, whatever things perish with the present life. Your car trouble, your paperwork, these are passing shadows. Seek instead the things that do not perish.
And while you wait on this woman, do not sit idle. The queen of the south waited not for Solomon to come to her, but went herself unto him, although she was a woman, and a barbarian, and at so great a distance. If you cannot go in person, yet go in spirit. Besiege heaven with prayer, as the paralytic had friends to carry him when he had no other way. If God sees your persistence, He may move the heart of that worker, or raise up another, or even work a way you cannot now imagine. But when relief comes, remember the warning given to the man at the pool: Sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. Let this trial be the last, and turn you wholly to the Lord. And so may God grant that we all, having been brought to sound mind, may obtain those unspeakable blessings.
