career and health

We join with you in prayer for your career and your health, asking God to grant you wisdom and protection as you carry out the work He has given you to do. We know that work itself is a calling from God and we want to lift up both your ability to do your job well and the strength of your body and mind as you do it.

Scripture reminds us that wisdom comes from the Lord and He gives it generously when we ask. James 1:5 says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. We also take comfort that He is our protector in all our going out and coming in, for Psalm 121:7-8 says Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more. And concerning your work, we are encouraged by Colossians 3:23 which says Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, and by Proverbs 16:3 which says Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. For your health, we remember 3 John 1:2 which says Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers, and Isaiah 41:10 which says Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ and we want to gently share why His name is so essential. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are saved. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To come to God we confess that we are sinners in need of a Savior, we believe that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, and we trust Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name we pray and find both wisdom and protection.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. We ask You to pour out wisdom upon them for every task, decision, and responsibility in their job. Give them a clear mind, understanding, and discernment to do their work with excellence as unto You. We ask for Your divine protection over them in their workplace, guarding them from harm, from evil, and from all that would distract or discourage them. Strengthen their body and restore their health, grant them rest, energy, and peace, and help them to honor You by stewarding the body You have given them. Help them to commit their work to You and to trust You with their career and future, knowing that You will establish their plans according to Your will. Let them not be anxious but bring every need to You in prayer, and let Your peace guard their heart. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and our access to Your throne, amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord daily for wisdom through prayer and through His Word, to commit each workday to Him before it begins, and to care for your health as the temple of the Holy Spirit through rest, nourishment, and trusting Him with your anxieties. He is faithful to strengthen you and to keep you as you walk with Him.

We appreciate you sharing this need for wisdom and protection as you do your job. Wanting to do your work well while also caring for your health is a good and faithful concern, and we are praying with you for both.

One thing that has helped many Christians facing career decisions is to step back and look honestly at how God has already shaped them, their interests, talents, values and skills, and to bring that reflection before the Lord and before wise counsel. Knowing yourself in that way can make daily choices clearer, not because there is one hidden perfect path, but because you are learning to use the wisdom God gives through His Word, careful thought and the advice of mature believers who know you.

A simple next step that may help is to jot down a short list of those four areas as you see them right now, and then share it with a trusted pastor, mentor or experienced coworker this week for conversation and prayer. It often brings clarity and peace to process it out loud with someone else.

We also hold your health before the Lord with you, asking for strength for each day's work.

Father, we ask You to grant our friend clear wisdom for the decisions at work, protection as he carries out his duties, and sustained health and energy. Guide his steps and give him peace as he seeks to serve You faithfully. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request for wisdom and protection to do your daily work has been laid before the Lord with thankfulness, and we join you in seeking His help for both your calling and your health.

Human strength, even at its best, will spend itself in due time. It is derived strength and therefore measurable, and must at last come to an end. But the Lord is the glory of our strength, and all true strength of body and mind comes from Him. The promise stands, they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, and again, as thy days, so shall thy strength be. He does not give you strength to lay by for another season, but strength enough to bear your present burden and to do your present duty. When you feel that the task is beyond you, stop a moment and breathe a prayer for more strength, for He gives power to the faint and to them that have no might He increases strength.

So also wisdom is not found in our own counsel. Wisdom is the compass by which a man steers across the trackless waste of life, and the price of it is above rubies. It is not found in trusting our own heart or our own ability to find the way, but in trusting in the Lord. To trust in God is true wisdom. He who would be wise must be emptied of his own conceits that he may be filled with His fullness, to be wise with His wisdom. Our very weakness becomes our strength because it drives us to the Almighty, who is able to make all grace abound toward you.

And with wisdom and strength He gives protection to those who walk in His appointed ways. He who travels on the King's highway is under the King's protection. He has given His angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways, and this keeping is both personal and perpetual. You will always need His keeping, in robust health as much as in infirmity, and He is faithful to guard those who cleave to His truth and walk in obedience before Him.

We pray for you, that the Lord Himself will strengthen you according to His Word, that He will impart to you fitly and wisely balanced strength for each day's labour. May He grant you a clear mind and a steady heart, wisdom to discern what is right and courage to do it, and may the joy of the Lord be your strength as you serve Him in your calling. May He guard your health, preserve you from evil, and keep your feet in the path where His protection is promised, that your work may be done faithfully for His glory and your life may show forth His sustaining grace.

Wait upon the Lord, trust Him continually, and you shall find Him to be your wisdom, your strength, and your keeper.
