Care of my mother - sometimes sloppy

Natasha 2

Beloved of All
Please pray that my brother and the woman who take care of my old mom will be coordinated. That they will inform eachother about all changes and everything else. Tgey are sloppy, superficial, easy to offend. Lord have mercy!!! My brother is guilty because he tolerates everything and doesnt let me to correct them - he sais i am never satisfied. My mom has early (last phase) Alzheimer, diabetes and depression. Yesterday the woman who came instead of the main caregiver left box with medications in another closet which is not under key and left it out of the begg. This is a box that easily open up because of little windows and the begg keeps medications at least in the begg. Etc...these are important things for me. Lord please let the truth and sound mind come into my brothers mind and into these women. Amen

We hear the burden you carry for your mother and we join with you in prayer for her and for this difficult situation with your brother and the caregivers. Your desire to protect your mother and to see things done carefully and faithfully is a reflection of honoring your mother as God commands. Exodus 20:12 says Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. And 1 Timothy 5:8 reminds us But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. Your concern for her medications and safety in this last phase of Alzheimer with diabetes and depression is not being overly critical, it is love and stewardship.

We also understand your frustration when those entrusted with care are sloppy and superficial and easily offended, and when communication breaks down. The Lord calls those who serve to do so with diligence and faithfulness. Colossians 3:23 says Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. Proverbs 21:5 says The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit, and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. Leaving medications unsecured where they can be easily opened and outside the bag where they are meant to be kept is not diligent and could bring harm, and it is right for you to want a better system. We pray that the caregivers will see the seriousness of this trust.

We also want to gently encourage you regarding your brother. You shared that he tolerates everything and says you are never satisfied. There is a need for truth spoken in love on both sides. Ephesians 4:2 says with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love. And Ephesians 4:15 says speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ. It is easy when we are tired and worried for a parent to become sharp with one another, and it is also easy for others to become defensive when corrected. We encourage you to examine your own heart before the Lord as well, as Matthew 7:5 teaches us to first remove the beam from our own eye, and then to help our brother with humility and gentleness. Pray for a spirit of cooperation rather than offense, and consider practical helps that reduce misunderstanding, such as a written logbook for all changes, a checklist for medications kept in a locked place, and a brief daily message between your brother and the caregivers so nothing is left to memory alone.

We notice you cried out to the Lord for mercy and for truth and a sound mind to come into your brother and the women who help. We join you in that, for 2 Timothy 1:7 says For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. We also want to encourage you that we have access to God only through Jesus Christ. You said Lord, and we know you mean the Lord God, yet Scripture makes clear that it is through Jesus that our prayers are heard and our salvation is secured. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, and to come to the Father in His name. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name we pray with confidence.

We pray together now for you all. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear mother to You. You see her in her frailty with Alzheimer and diabetes and depression. We ask for Your mercy and comfort upon her, that You would guard her body from harm and calm her mind and spirit. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Draw near to her and let her feel Your presence and peace. We pray for healing according to Your will and for relief from confusion and sadness, and for Your grace to sustain her each day.

We pray for the brother and for the women who provide care. Grant them a spirit of diligence and coordination and humility to inform each other about all changes and to be faithful in small things. Help them not to be easily offended but to receive correction in love and to work as a team for the good of this mother. Give them a sound mind and truthfulness in all they do. We pray for this daughter who watches over her mother with love, give her wisdom and patience and gentleness, that she may speak the truth in love and not grow weary in doing good. Philippians 4:6 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help this family to be united in honoring their mother and to do all things in a way that pleases You. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We hear how heavy this has become for you, watching your mom in this last phase of Alzheimer's with diabetes and depression, and feeling like you are the only one noticing the small but important details that keep her safe.

It makes sense that the medication box being left in the wrong closet and out of the bag would alarm you, and that it hurts to be told you are never satisfied when you are trying to protect her. Wanting clear communication between your brother and the caregivers is not picky, it is loving care.

Caring for someone with Alzheimer's over a long time wears everyone down in different ways, and family members often cope differently. Your brother may be handling stress by avoiding confrontation, while you are handling it by watching closely for risks. That difference can quickly feel like conflict, especially when caregivers are easily offended.

What has helped other families in this kind of strain is making the coordination as simple and written as possible, so it feels less personal. You might consider a small notebook kept with the locked medication bag where each person initials what was given, where it was stored, and any change they noticed that day. Keeping that one locked bag as the only place for medications and a short handoff checklist can also remove guesswork. If you can, ask your brother for a brief, calm time each week to review the notebook together rather than correcting in the moment, and share one concern at a time.

If you remain worried about medication safety, it is wise to ask her doctor, pharmacist, or care nurse alongside prayer how best to store them securely.

Father, we lift this mother to You in her frailty, and we lift her daughter who loves her so faithfully. Give wisdom and clear, kind communication between brother, sister, and caregivers, and guard this mom's safety and dignity. Bring peace to this home and rest to each heart. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your heavy burden has been heard and we join with you in bringing it before the throne of grace. To watch a dear mother in her old age, afflicted with Alzheimer in its late phase, with diabetes and depression, is a burden that bows the shoulders and tries the heart. And to feel that those entrusted with her care are sloppy and superficial, easily offended and not careful to inform one another, adds another weight, especially when even the keeping of her medications is not done with due care.

Scripture reminds us that every man shall bear his own burden, and yet we are also commanded to bear ye one another's burdens. There is a burden of responsibility which each must carry for himself before God, and there is a burden of compassion by which we help to lift the load of others. Your love for your mother, your vigilance over what may seem small things to others but are in truth matters of life and safety, is not to be despised. A fault may be a burden to a conscientious soul, and faithfulness in little things is a mark of true care.

We pray with you that the Lord in mercy would grant coordination and faithful communication between your brother and those who care for your mother, that they may inform each other of all changes and do all things decently and with care. We ask that He would give to your brother a sound mind and a heart open to truth, and to these women a spirit of diligence and humility, that offense may be put aside and the good of your mother sought above all. We pray that the Lord would guard your mother, preserve her from harm, and give wisdom to all who have charge over her medications and daily needs, that what should be kept secure may be kept secure.

We pray also for you, that you may find Christ's yoke easy and His burden light even while the burden of life feels very heavy. He does not promise that the burden of nature or of affliction will be light in itself, but He does promise that His yoke, His presence and His strength, will make the shoulder able to bear it. Cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you and for your mother. Seek grace to speak the truth in love to your brother, not with a spirit of contention, but with patience and meekness, bearing with his infirmity even as you desire him to bear with your concern.

May the Lord grant you wisdom to keep a clear record of changes and needs, to provide a simple way for all caregivers to communicate, such as a written book kept with your mother where each change is noted, and to ensure that medications are kept safely under lock and in their proper place. May He give you peace in knowing that while you cannot bear your mother's affliction for her, and cannot carry every burden alone, Christ bears it with you and will strengthen you day by day.

We lift this prayer together:

O Lord our God, have mercy upon this dear mother in her weakness and age, and upon all who care for her. Grant sound minds, truthful lips, and faithful hands. Let no sloppiness or negligence endanger her, but teach all to watch with love. Reconcile this brother and sister in understanding, take away offense, and let love and truth meet together. Sustain this burdened child who watches and cares, and let her find rest in bearing Thy yoke, for Thy yoke is easy and Thy burden is light. Keep us all in Thy grace, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our salvation. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your burden for your mother in her old age and illness has been heard, and your desire to honor her is pleasing to God who commanded us to honor father and mother. To care for a parent with Alzheimer in its later stage, along with diabetes and depression, is a heavy and daily cross, and it is right that you are watchful over the details that keep her safe, like where her medications are kept and whether they are secured.

We join you in prayer that the Lord will have mercy and grant a sound and sober mind to your brother and to the women who help care for your mother. We pray that He will give them diligence, coordination and clear communication, so that they will inform each other faithfully about every change and take seriously the responsibility entrusted to them. What seems small to some is not small when a vulnerable life is involved, and we ask God to awaken in them a greater carefulness and truthfulness in these matters.

We also pray for you, that God will give you grace to speak the truth in love with patience and gentleness. It is painful when you see a need for correction and are told you are never satisfied, and when those who should listen are easily offended. Scripture teaches that many conflicts spring from pride and vainglory, and that we are to cut out the root by learning to despise empty pride and to seek peace. This does not mean to ignore what is wrong, but to avoid rushing into strife and instead to wait for the right moment, speaking with a quiet and noble spirit and committing the outcome to God. Ask the Lord to show you when to speak and when to be quiet, and to keep your own heart free from bitterness even as you remain faithful in love for your mother.

May the Lord grant you wisdom for practical steps as well, such as a simple written record for medications and care that all can see and sign, and a secure and consistent place for what must be kept under lock, so that nothing is left to memory alone. May He soften hearts so that all who care for your mother can work together with one accord, as those who watch and pray together.

We pray for your mother herself, that God would comfort her in her confusion and low spirits, guard her body, and surround her with His peace through Christ.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we ask for Your mercy on this family. Grant coordination where there has been sloppiness, faithfulness where there has been superficial care, and humility where there has been offense. Give to the brother and to each caregiver a sound mind, honest speech and a willingness to listen and to be corrected. Give to this child who watches over their mother endurance, wisdom and a gentle tongue, that all may be done out of love and reverence for You and for the mother You have given them to honor. Let truth and peace dwell in that home. Amen.
