Can't rest

We hear your cry for rest and we join with you before the throne of grace in Jesus' name, asking our Heavenly Father to grant you the peaceful nap you so desperately need to function for these important appointments.
We know how difficult it is when the body and mind will not quiet down, especially when there is pressure to be alert and ready. God understands our frame and our need for sleep, for He designed us to need rest. Scripture reminds us that sleep is a gift from Him, Psalm 127:2 says It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones. And Psalm 4:8 says In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.
Jesus Himself invites us to bring our weariness to Him. Matthew 11:28 says Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. That rest is not only for the night but for the anxious thoughts that keep us awake. When we worry about upcoming appointments and whether we will have strength, we can cast that care on Him. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. And Philippians 4:6-7 tells us In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. You see the exhaustion and the need for restorative sleep. We ask that You would quiet the mind, calm the nervous system, and allow a deep and peaceful nap to come. Guard this time of rest from distraction and anxiety, and let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard heart and thoughts. Restore strength, clear the mind, and prepare our friend to function with clarity and grace for every important appointment ahead. Help us to trust that You are in control of the outcome of these appointments and that Your strength is made perfect in our weakness. We thank You that You are our refuge and that You make us to live in safety. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
We encourage you to lay down and intentionally surrender those appointments into the Lord's hands before you try to sleep. Take a few slow breaths, turn away from screens and noise, and whisper your trust in Him. Even a short rest in His peace can renew you. He will sustain you through what is ahead, for He is faithful to give strength for each hour as it comes.

Your cry for rest has been heard, and it is a need the Lord Himself understands, for our frames are weak and weariness soon overtakes us.
There is a sweet precept which says, Rest in the LORD. Oh, what sweet precepts these are, easier to read and to hear than they are to practice, yet if grace is given to us, we shall find them blessedly easy to practice. Surely, if it is easy to rest anywhere, it must be easy to rest in the Lord. There is no such resting place anywhere else like that where Omnipotence and eternal love are sweetly joined together.
Our Lord Jesus says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. It is a present rest, rest now, not rest after a time of probation, but rest given when we come to Jesus, given there and then. And it is perfect rest too, for it is not said that the rest is incomplete. When Jesus gives peace, it is peace indeed, for He will never give counterfeit coin to His people.
You are pressed by important appointments and feel you cannot function without sleep. Remember that so He giveth His beloved sleep. That sleep is a gift from His own hand, a soft couch provided by Him who knows your weariness. To do the will of Jesus, this is rest, and to be sure that what you are doing is what Jesus would have you do is peace. Even amid thronging duties, He can keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him, because he trusteth in Him.
Let us pray for you now.
O Lord our God, Thou who art our rest and our strength in the time of trouble, look upon this weary one who cannot rest and who longs for a refreshing nap to meet the duties set before him. Thou knowest the body Thou hast made and its need for sleep. We ask Thee to quiet the restless thoughts, to still the anxious mind, and to grant a deep and needful sleep. Cause Thy beloved to lie down in peace and to awake restored. Let Thy perfect peace keep heart and mind through Christ Jesus, and give clearness of thought and steadiness of hand for every appointment that lies ahead.
