Cannabis smell and unpredictiveness from neighbour

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Please help me in a situatiin that has escaluted from cannabis smell in my hall, stairs and bathroom from a neighbour to now my bedroom being full of cannabis when i go to bed and it is making me feel sick Also the neighbour is manipulative and slams door and i have already approached them and things got worse,am tired fed up and unhappy My home doesent feel like my home should been going on over 1 year many disruptions i think i asked to nicely to less the noise.

We have heard your heart and we stand with you in this long and wearying trial. For over a year your home, which should be a place of peace and rest, has been filled with the smell of cannabis and the unpredictability of a difficult neighbour, and we understand why you feel tired, fed up, unhappy and even sick. It is right to desire a quiet and clean home, and we grieve with you that gentle approaches have been met with manipulation and more disturbance like door slamming.

We want to remind you that God sees your distress and cares about your dwelling place. He is our refuge and shelter. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1. Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7.

We also want to speak truth about what you are facing. The misuse of drugs harms the body which God created to be a temple for His Spirit. Don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. And we are called to be sober minded. Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8. Your neighbour's actions are not pleasing to God, and the slamming and manipulation create fear where there should be peace. We are called to seek peace but also to act wisely. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18. You did right to approach them gently, and it is not your fault that things escalated.

We encourage you not to seek revenge or to return harshness for harshness. Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:19. Instead we encourage you to take wise and lawful steps while continuing in prayer. Keep a calm written record of dates and times when the smell fills your hall, stairs, bathroom and bedroom and when loud disturbances happen. Seek help from the proper authorities God has placed over us, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Romans 13:1. This may mean speaking again in writing to your landlord, housing association or building manager, and if needed contacting environmental health or the police on their non emergency line for advice, especially as the smoke is making you feel sick and affecting your health and rest. Bring a trusted friend, family member or advisor with you when you seek help so you are not alone. Continue to guard your own heart from bitterness and ask the Lord to give you rest. Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true peace and salvation. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name in prayer.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one to You. Lord You see how long this has gone on and how weary and unwell they feel. We ask You to be their refuge and to restore peace to their home. We ask You to protect their health and give them clean air to breathe and quiet sleep at night. We pray for wisdom for every next step, for favour with landlords and authorities, and for protection from manipulation and intimidation. Soften the heart of the neighbour, Lord, convict them of actions that harm others, and lead them away from drug use toward sobriety and respect for those around them. Help our friend to respond with grace and firm boundaries, to not grow bitter, and to trust You to act justly. Fill their home again with Your peace that passes all understanding and remind them daily that You are near and that You care. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, amen.

We hear how heavy this has been for you, living for over a year with smells filling your hall and now your bedroom, with door slamming and unpredictability right next door. When home stops feeling like home and you feel sick and on edge in your own bedroom, it is exhausting, and it makes sense you feel tired and fed up.

You did the kind thing in approaching your neighbour directly, and it is discouraging that it made things worse. When someone responds with manipulation or escalation, it is wise not to keep carrying the confrontation alone. That is where healthy boundaries help, not to shut people out, but to be clear about what is yours to protect, your health, your sleep, your peace at home, and to let appropriate others help carry what is not yours to fix alone.

A few steady next steps that often help in this kind of situation: keep a simple dated note of when the smell and noise happen and how it affects you, and if you rent, share that log with your landlord or housing association. Many councils also have an environmental health team for persistent smoke issues, and a mediation service that can step in so you do not have to face an unpredictable neighbour one to one. Since you mentioned feeling sick from the smell, we also encourage you to see your doctor alongside prayer, just to have that checked.

You have shown a lot of patience already. We are with you in asking God for wisdom and for a more settled home.

Father, in Jesus' name we bring this weary heart to You. You see this home and the strain of the past year. Grant rest at night, relief from sickness, wisdom for each conversation and decision, and help from the right people nearby. Give peace that guards this home. Amen.

We have heard your burden and we feel the weight of it with you. There is a peculiar trial when the very place appointed for rest becomes a place of unrest, when home ceases to feel like home. To be made sick in your own bedroom, to have your hall and stairs filled with what you did not invite, and to find that a gentle word has only made the contradiction more sharp, is to be tired indeed. To bear this for more than a year, with many disruptions, is a long affliction, and we do not make light of it.

The Psalmist speaks of a great mercy, that the Lord maketh peace in thy borders and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat. Peace in our borders is a gift of God, and when it is broken, we are right to seek Him who alone can give it. There is a peace which the world cannot give and cannot take away, the peace which comes from being at peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. As it is written, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee. This perfect peace does not depend upon quiet stairs or a sweet smelling chamber, though we desire those mercies for you, but upon looking to Jesus and lying at His feet. There the sin burdened soul finds forgiveness, and the weary soul finds rest. Come and lie at His feet and cry, I will not depart until Thou speak peace to me. Standing at His feet, you will hear Him say, Thy faith hath saved thee, go in peace.

We would exhort you also in the matter of your neighbour. Our Saviour has taught us, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, and that love will keep you from returning evil for evil, from reviling or threatening. Yet love is not blind to wrong, and this rough world sometimes needs to be rebuked in a right and lawful way. You have already shown a meek spirit in approaching your neighbour gently. Since that has made matters worse, and you now face manipulation and slamming and an unpredictable temper, it is wise not to contend alone at the door. Seek the help of those whom God has placed over these borders for good, your landlord, housing officer, or local authority, and let the matter be recorded quietly and truly. Keep a simple written note of times and effects, especially as your health is affected, and seek advice from environmental health if the smell continues to make you sick. This is not unkindness, but a lawful seeking of peace in thy borders, and it may also be a kindness to your neighbour, who may be brought to see his need.

Bear your sorrow with Christ, and see what perfect peace you may yet enjoy even with sorrows surging round. He endured the contradiction of sinners against Himself, and He knows what it is to have the very home of joy poisoned by unkindness. Consider Him, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Cast this whole care upon Him, for He careth for you.

We will pray for you, and we invite you to pray with us.

O Lord, who alone makest peace in our borders, look in mercy upon Thy tired child whose home is troubled. Grant perfect peace to a mind stayed on Thee, and speak rest to a weary heart. In Thy kindness, restrain what harms the body and disturbs the home, and in Thy wisdom open a right way for lawful help and quiet resolution. Have mercy also upon the neighbour, and bring him to know Christ, through whom alone is salvation, that he may be turned from what harms himself and others. Fill this home again with quiet, and fill this heart with trust in Jesus, in whose name we ask it. Amen.

We will continue to remember you before the throne. Keep your mind stayed upon Christ, seek peace by all lawful means, and let us know how you are kept.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your burden has been heard and I grieve with you that what should be a place of rest has become a place of distress. A home is meant for peace, and when that peace is taken away day after day for more than a year, it is no small trial. To have the smell filling your hall and stairs and even your bedroom so that you feel sick when you lie down to sleep, and to live with slamming doors and an unpredictable neighbour after you tried to speak kindly and were met with worse, would weary anyone.

Scripture calls us blessed when we seek peace, and Christ Himself said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. That peace is not the same as the absence of trouble outside us, but a steadiness He gives within us even when the trouble remains. At the same time God is not a God of strife, and He calls His people to be peacemakers wherever possible, to be peaceful even with those who hate peace, and not to bite and devour one another with harsh words or slander.

So I want to pray for you both for relief and for wisdom to act well in a difficult situation.

I pray that the Lord Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and reconciliation with the Father, would give you His peace to guard your heart, would protect your health and give you rest in your own home again, and would give you clear steps forward. I pray also for your neighbour, that God would work in his heart to turn from what harms both himself and others and to live more considerately.

In seeking peace, it is right also to seek what is just and lawful without returning evil for evil. Since speaking directly has made things worse, do not continue to confront alone. Keep a simple written record of when the smell and the noise occur and how it affects your health and sleep. Bring that record to those who have responsibility for the building, whether a landlord, housing manager, or local council, and ask for their help through proper channels such as environmental health or a mediation service. If the smoke is making you feel sick, speak to your doctor and let those in authority know about the health effect. Keep your own conversation truthful and restrained, not spreading reproach, but stating facts quietly to those who can help. And as you wait, guard your heart from repaying harshness with harshness, which only multiplies enmity and remembrance of wrongs.

You have already shown patience by asking nicely and enduring long. Ask the Lord now for fresh strength to persevere, for protection over your home, and for a resolution that allows you to dwell in quiet again. Keep bringing this to Him in prayer, and keep seeking help through the right authorities until the matter is addressed.

May the Lord grant you sleep without sickness, a home that feels like home again, and wisdom to walk in peace even while you seek what is right.
