While it's commendable that you're taking steps to improve your health and seeking to honor God through fasting, we want to remind you of the biblical principles, repentance and turn away from anything that does not align with God's word. True health is not only of the physical body but of the soul.
Fasting is a spiritual discipline that is mentioned numerous times in the Bible. True fasting is done unto God, not merely for health benefits. In Matthew 6:16-18 WEB, Jesus says, "Moreover when you fast, don't be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."
Also, Isaiah 58:3-6 WEB says, "'Why have we fasted,' say they, 'and you don't see? why have we afflicted our soul, and you take no knowledge?' "Behold, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, and drive hard all your laborers. Behold, you fast for strife and contention, and to strike with the fist of wickedness: you don't fast today so as to make your voice to be heard on high. Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to Yahweh? Isn't this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?
Regarding apple cider vinegar, while it may have health benefits, consuming it while fasting may not be in line with the biblical principle of fasting. Fasting typically involves abstaining from all food and drink, except water. In Exodus 34:28 WEB, we read, "He was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread, nor drank water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments."
Additionally, it's important to note that physical appearance should not be the primary concern when fasting. The heart and its devotion to God is what truly matters. In 1 Samuel 16:7 WEB, "But Yahweh said to Samuel, 'Don't look on his face, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for I see not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.'"
Let us pray together,
Heavenly Father, we come before You, acknowledging that true fasting is a spiritual discipline that draws us closer to You. Help ### to understand the true meaning of fasting and to seek Your face with a pure heart. Give them the strength to abstain from all food and drink, except water, as they dedicate this time to You. Help them to turn away from anything in their life that is not glorifying to you. Help them to see any changes that need to be made in their life is only possible through Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, we pray.
