Calm the flames of war

Father, please calm the flames of war. There are several countries which seem to be considering using a nuclear weapon! Please de-escalate this, and protect all the world from any nuclear war. Please calm all disputes and please end the wars. Please protect our farmers and their crops and protect the food supply for all of the world. Father, there are many signs which point to the Last Days. Help us not to fear, and not to waste time. Help us to spend our time and resources GETTING PREPARED. Please provide guidance as to how to get prepared. Please wake people up and wake up churches who are not paying attention to the signs all around them. In Jesus' name, Amen.

We join you in this urgent prayer for peace and for mercy over the nations, and we agree with you in asking our Father to restrain the flames of war. Our hearts are heavy with you as we see the threats of escalation and the talk of nuclear weapons, and we bring this fear directly to the throne of grace.

Scripture tells us this would be so, yet it also tells us not to be overcome by fear. Jesus said, You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren’t troubled, for all this must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom Matthew 24:6-7. And again He says, Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful John 14:27. We are reminded that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1, and that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7.

We also hear your heart for preparation and for waking up those who are asleep to the signs around us. This is biblical. We are told to watch therefore, for you don’t know in what hour your Lord comes Matthew 24:42, and Awake, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you Ephesians 5:14. Now is the time to be sober and watchful, for it is high time to awake out of sleep, for now is salvation nearer than when we first believed Romans 13:11. Part of getting prepared is first and foremost spiritual preparation, making sure we and our loved ones are truly in Christ, abiding in Him, repenting of sin, living holy lives, sharing the gospel while there is time, and redeeming the time, because the days are evil Ephesians 5:16. If any of us lacks wisdom about how to prepare practically and steward our time and resources well, we can ask God who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. We can be good stewards of what He has entrusted to us without giving in to panic, for we know that perfect love casts out fear and that our times are in His hands.

We also lift up our farmers and the food supply with you, for every good gift comes from our Father. He causes the grass to grow for the livestock, and plants for man to cultivate, that he may produce food out of the earth Psalm 104:14. We ask Him to protect those who till the ground and to preserve the harvests upon which so many depend.

Let us pray together.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son we come before You and we ask You to have mercy. Lord, You make wars to cease to the end of the earth Psalm 46:9, and we ask You to calm the flames of war even now. Restrain the hands of leaders who are considering evil and the use of terrible weapons. We pray for de-escalation among the nations, for wisdom and restraint to prevail, and for disputes to be settled without further bloodshed. We pray as You have commanded us to make petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks for all men, for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence 1 Timothy 2:1-2. Protect, Father, the innocent, the soldiers, the children, and all who are caught in conflict. Protect the world from nuclear war, for You alone are sovereign over life and death.

Father, protect our farmers and their crops and livestock, and protect the food supply for all the world. Send favorable weather, keep away blight and destruction, and provide for Your people day by day. Give us our daily bread and help us to trust You as our provider.

Help us not to fear, Lord, but to trust You with perfect peace as our minds are stayed on You Isaiah 26:3. Help us not to waste time, but to use our time and resources for Your glory, to get prepared spiritually first, to be washed in the blood of Jesus, to be ready for His return, and to be faithful stewards of all You have given us. Wake up Your church, Father, wake up those who are sleeping and not paying attention to the signs. Stir our pastors and congregations to preach Your word boldly, to call people to repentance, and to watch and be ready. Let us be peacemakers who are called children of God Matthew 5:9, sharing the hope of the gospel while there is still time.

We thank You that we can cast all our worries on You because You care for us 1 Peter 5:7, and that when we are anxious we can make our requests known to You, and Your peace which surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. We trust this matter into Your hands and ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace. Amen.

We have been praying with you over this weight you are carrying. Wanting wars to stop, families and farmers to be safe, food to be secure, and not knowing what tomorrow holds is a lot to hold at once. It makes sense you feel urgency about the signs you are seeing and want to use your time well.

One thing we have found helpful when fear about big world events grows loud is to separate what we can entrust to God from what we can faithfully steward today. We cannot control nations or calm wars on our own, but we can choose how we spend today in a way that honors God and loves our neighbors.

A next step that might steady you is to take your question about getting prepared to one trusted pastor or mature believer this week. Share specifically what is stirring fear for you and ask, what does faithful, calm preparation look like for our family and church right now, without living in fear? Writing down one or two simple, practical actions you agree on can keep preparation from turning into constant worry.

Father, we ask You to have mercy on our troubled world, to restrain evil and de-escalate the threat of war, and to protect those who grow and provide food. Guard this heart from fear and help us live wisely and faithfully today, using time and resources well. Wake us and our churches to seek You while there is time. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer concerning the flames of war and the dread of those terrible weapons has been heard, and it is right that you should bring such heavy burdens before the throne of grace.

The signs of the times are indeed dark and direful, and the heart of man trembles when it hears of wars and rumors of wars, and of instruments that can in a moment lay waste whole cities. Yet hear what the angel said to the shepherds, and what the Lord says still to His own, Fear not. That blessed word grows very plentifully in God's garden. Fear not, for I am with you, fear not, for I will help you, fear not, you worm Jacob. It would be disobedience to be afraid when Jesus Himself whispers to His poor servant fallen at His feet, Fear not.

There is a fear which we ought to cherish, the filial fear of God which is the beginning of wisdom, a holy reverence and awe which keeps us close to our Father. But the slavish fear, the fear of man which brings a snare, the trembling and cowardice which makes the armed man turn his back in the day of battle, this we must labor to put away. Fear dishonors God, as though the arm which piled the heavens and sustains the pillars of the earth could ever be palsied. Fear not him that can kill the body, but fear Him who is able to cast both body and soul into hell. In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and he who fears the King of kings need not fear Nebuchadnezzar nor any power of this world, for devils fear and fly before the name of Jesus, which is high over all in hell or earth or sky.

You ask how to be prepared, and this is the most needful question. Preparation is needed and the preparation must be found before we die, on this side of death, for such as you are when death comes to you, such will judgment find you. The great preparation is not first in barns or storehouses, though we may with prudence provide for our households, but a preparation for us and a preparation in us, wrought by God Himself. The war between the most holy God and His offending creatures is over in the case of blood washed sinners, not suspended by a truce, but ended forever by a peace which passes all understanding through the precious blood of Christ. To be prepared is to be agreed with God as to the end of your existence, that having been bought with precious blood you may live unto Christ and not unto yourself, to be low enough to be blessed, to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, to have forgiveness of sin and thus to have the true fear of God in the heart and in the life, not merely to turn over the Books of Scripture.

Therefore let us pray together.

O Lord our God, You rend the heavens and come down, and without You all our striving ends in heart sickening failure. Calm the flames of war among the nations, restrain the counsels of men who devise destruction, and in Your mercy forbid that these dreadful weapons should be loosed upon the earth. You hold the hearts of kings in Your hand, and You can speak peace where there is no peace. Protect the fields and the farmers and the fruits of the earth, for every good gift comes from Your hand, and preserve the food supply for the sustenance of Your creatures.

Grant to Your people that they may not be given to slavish fear, but may stand in holy confidence, trusting in promised strength. Forgive us our sins through the blood of Your Son, and work in us that gracious preparation which shall make us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Wake those who slumber, stir the churches that are not watching, that we may not waste time nor resources but may spend them in seeking first Your kingdom, in proclaiming the name of Jesus high over all, and in doing war without ceasing against error and sin and unbelief, while having no bitterness against any man. Keep us walking in Your fear until we come to the glory which abides for the faithful. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our peace. Amen.
