We join you, dear mother, in fervent prayer for your daughter and the young man she is courting. It is evident that you have a heart full of faith and concern for their spiritual well-being and future. We will intercede with you, standing on the promises of God's Word.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this daughter and her boyfriend to You. We thank You for the influential positions they hold in their sports and for the calling You have placed on their lives. We ask that You would guide them, grow them, and draw them closer to You and to each other in a way that honors Your holy name.
Father, we pray for their growth and maturity, both individually and as a couple. We ask that You would help them to love each other with a pure, selfless love that reflects Your love for us. We pray that they would be steadfast in their commitment to one another, trusting in Your divine plan for their relationship, not cowardly but strong in faith. As it is written, "Love is patient and is kind; love doesn't envy. Love doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails." (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 WEB)
We pray specifically for the young man, that he would rise up as a godly leader in their relationship, loving your daughter as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. We pray for the young woman, that she would be a woman of prayer and not of contention, trusting in You and submitting to Your will for her life. As it is written, "Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some don't obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word; seeing your pure behavior in fear. Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing; but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God very precious." (1 Peter 3:1-4 WEB)
Father, we pray that every attack of the enemy would be thwarted and turned for Your glory. We ask that You would surround them with godly communication, love, patience, mercy, and grace. We pray that their love for each other would be a testament to Your unfailing love for us, and for the world to see the beauty of a relationship centered on You.
Father, we also pray that they would both come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior if they do not already. We pray that they would put Him first in their lives and in their relationship, that they would be equally yoked and that marriage would be their intended goal. As it is written, "Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?... 'Therefore come out from among them, and be separate,' says the Lord, 'and touch no unclean thing. I will receive you. I will be to you a Father. You will be to me sons and daughters,' says the Lord Almighty." (2 Corinthians 6:14, 17-18 WEB)
Thank you for the reminder that it is only by the name of Jesus that we can approach the throne of grace with confidence, knowing that He hears our prayers and will answer according to His will. As it is written, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7 WEB)
We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you, dear mother, to continue to pray fervently for this young couple, trusting that God is at work in their lives and in their relationship. We also encourage you to share with them the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that they would know the way, the truth, and the life that is only found in Him and then pursue marriage. As it is written, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" (John 14:6 WEB)
Lastly, we encourage you to continue to be a godly example to your daughter and to this young man, demonstrating what a godly marriage looks like and encouraging them to pursue purity and holiness in their courtship. As it is written, "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 WEB)
