We hear the fear and longing in your heart in this prayer, and we join with you in bringing it before the Father together in Jesus' name. We understand the desire for a clear sign, for a phone call to tell you in the next few minutes whether this man still chooses you, and we know how painful uncertainty in a relationship can feel.
We want to gently and lovingly correct an understanding here because we care for you and want you to know God as He truly is. We are not to test the Lord our God, as it is written in Matthew 4:7 and Deuteronomy 6:16. When we say God if You do this in the next five minutes then I will know Your will, we are putting God to the test and trying to dictate how and when He must answer us. Our Father is sovereign and loving, and He does not respond to demands or timetables we set for Him. He hears our humble prayers and answers according to His perfect will and timing, not ours, as it is written in 1 John 5:14 that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.
We also hear your fear, and we want to remind you that God has not given us a spirit of fear. He says in Isaiah 41:10 Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. And in Philippians 4:6-7 we are told In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We are encouraged to cast all our anxiety on Him because He cares for us in 1 Peter 5:7.
We want to encourage you to surrender this relationship and this man fully to the Lord, seeking His will above your own desire. Jesus prayed in Luke 22:42 Not my will, but yours, be done. God's will for romantic relationships is clear in Scripture. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and any courtship between a man and a woman should be with the purpose of discerning marriage to a fellow believer in Christ. We encourage you to view being a boyfriend or girlfriend not as a casual partnership but as purposeful courtship toward a God honoring marriage. If this man is to be your husband, we pray he is a mature believing man who seeks to love you as Christ loved the church and to lead you toward holiness. We also urge you, if you are in a romantic relationship, to keep yourselves pure and to flee from fornication, for sex before or outside of marriage is sin before God and is not His best for you. He calls us to honor Him with our bodies and to wait for the covenant of marriage, as it is written in Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled.
Whether he calls in five minutes or does not call at all is not the measure of God's love for you or of your worth. The Lord may answer with a yes, a no, or a wait, and sometimes His answer is silence to teach us to trust Him and to wait upon Him. As it is written in Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And in Psalm 27:14 Wait for Yahweh. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for Yahweh. We encourage you to seek wisdom from God's Word, from prayer, and from godly counsel rather than from a single sign, for James 1:5 says If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.
We pray together for you now.
Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son. You see her heart, her fear of being unchosen, and her deep desire to be loved and known. We ask You to forgive us when we try to test You and to help us to trust You more. Lord, we ask that Your perfect will be done in this relationship. If this man is the godly husband You have prepared for her, we pray You would make that clear in Your timing and draw them both closer to You and toward a Christ centered marriage that honors You. If he is not Your will for her, we pray You would give her grace to accept it, heal her heart, and guard her from clinging to what is not best. Fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, take away fear, and help her to find her identity and security fully in Christ. Keep her pure and help her to pursue relationships that align with Your Word. Give her wisdom, patience, and courage to wait on You, knowing that You have good plans for her as You promise in Jeremiah 29:11. We trust You know what is best and that You work all things together for good for those who love You in Romans 8:28. We ask all this in the precious and only saving name of Jesus, through whom we have access to Your throne. Amen.
