We lift your brother up before the Lord, knowing that He is the Great Physician and the One who holds all things together by the word of His power. It is troubling to see a loved one suffer with such sudden and severe symptoms—vomiting, a debilitating headache, and the inability to stand—yet we trust that God is sovereign over every detail of this situation. The medical tests so far have not revealed the cause, but we know that nothing is hidden from our Heavenly Father. He sees what no machine or human eye can see, and His understanding is infinite.
The Word of God reminds us in Psalm 139:13-16, *"For you formed my inwards. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. My frame wasn’t hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them."* Your brother’s body, his health, and even the number of his days are known by God. We take comfort in this truth, especially in moments of uncertainty.
We also remember the promise in James 5:14-15, *"Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."* While we are not physically present to anoint him, we join you in praying with the faith that God hears and acts according to His will. We ask that you, your family, and your brother remain steadfast in prayer, trusting that the Lord is working even now.
At the same time, we must also consider the spiritual state of your brother’s heart. Illness can be a time of reflection and repentance, a moment to draw near to God and seek His face. If your brother does not know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, we urge you to share the Gospel with him. There is no greater healing than the salvation of his soul. As it is written in Romans 10:9-10, *"that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation."* Now is the time to ensure that his trust is fully in Christ, for eternal life is far more precious than temporary healing.
We also encourage you to examine your own heart in this time of trial. Are you trusting in the Lord, or are you allowing fear and anxiety to take root? Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:25-34, *"Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing? ... But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient."* Our Heavenly Father knows your brother’s needs, and He knows yours as well. Cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
Now, let us pray together for your brother and for all who are suffering with health issues:
Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne of grace with humble and contrite hearts, lifting up our brother who is suffering with unexplained illness. Lord, You are the God who heals, the One who speaks and diseases flee. We ask that You would touch his body with Your healing power. Remove whatever is causing this sickness—whether it be a physical ailment, a spiritual attack, or an unseen affliction. Give wisdom and discernment to the doctors and medical staff attending to him, that they may accurately diagnose and treat him according to Your will.
We pray for supernatural strength for his body, that he would be able to stand firm and recover fully. Let this time of weakness be a testimony of Your power and mercy. If there is any sin in his life, Lord, convict him and lead him to repentance. Draw him closer to You, that he may know You not just as Healer, but as Savior and Lord. If he has not yet surrendered his life to Jesus Christ, we pray that this trial would be the very thing that leads him to the foot of the cross.
Father, we also lift up all those who are interceding for him—his family, friends, and the body of Christ. Comfort their hearts and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Remove fear and replace it with faith, anxiety with trust, and doubt with confidence in Your goodness.
We declare Your promises over this situation, Lord. By the stripes of Jesus, we proclaim healing (Isaiah 53:5). We stand on Your Word that says, *"I am Yahweh, your healer"* (Exodus 15:26). Let Your will be done in his life, whether that means physical restoration or a deeper spiritual work that brings glory to Your name.
Finally, we pray for all those who are battling health issues today. Strengthen their bodies, renew their minds, and let them feel Your presence in a tangible way. May they, too, turn to You in their time of need and find You faithful.
We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who bore our sicknesses and carried our pains. Amen.
