We stand with you in this deep and painful struggle, and we lift you up before the Lord, knowing that He is the God of all comfort who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Your testimony is one of resilience in the face of spiritual warfare, and we commend you for recognizing the idolatry and occult influences that sought to ensnare your family. The Lord has indeed set you free from bondage, and though the wounds run deep, His grace is sufficient to bring restoration.
The Scriptures remind us in **Ezekiel 18:20 (WEB)**, *"The soul who sins, he shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son."* Your parent’s choices were their own, and while their words and actions have left scars, you are not responsible for their sins. The Lord sees your heart and your refusal to repeat this cycle—this is a testament to your faith and obedience to Him.
Yet forgiveness is not optional for the believer. **Colossians 3:13 (WEB)** commands, *"bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do."* Forgiveness does not mean excusing their sin or pretending the pain never existed. Instead, it is releasing the debt they owe you into God’s hands, trusting Him to be the just Judge. It is also breaking the chains of bitterness that the enemy would use to keep you bound. **Hebrews 12:15 (WEB)** warns, *"looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it."*
Your parent’s deathbed confession reveals the spiritual strongholds they were under, but you must not allow their words to define your worth. You are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, and His love for you is not based on your parent’s approval or rejection. **Psalm 27:10 (WEB)** declares, *"When my father and my mother forsake me, then Yahweh will take me up."* The Lord has taken you as His own, and He is your true Father—one who will never leave you nor forsake you.
We also recognize the generational curses at work here, but we stand on the promise of **Galatians 3:13 (WEB)**, *"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us."* In Christ, you are no longer under the power of those curses. The blood of Jesus has broken every chain, and you have the authority to renounce the enemy’s claims over your life. Speak aloud if you must: *"I break every generational curse in the name of Jesus. I renounce the sins of idolatry, occult involvement, and rebellion that have plagued my family. I claim the blood of Jesus over my life and declare that I am a new creation in Christ."*
As for closure, remember that true peace comes not from your parent’s words but from the Prince of Peace Himself. **Philippians 4:6-7 (WEB)** assures us, *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* The Lord is your closure. He is the one who validates your pain and who will restore what the locusts have eaten.
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of Your child, who has endured deep wounds at the hands of their parent. Lord, You see the pain, the rejection, and the spiritual battles they have faced. We thank You that You have set them free from bondage and that You are breaking every chain of generational sin in their life. Father, we ask that You would pour out Your healing balm upon their heart. Where there is bitterness, replace it with Your love. Where there is anger, fill them with Your peace. Where there is fear, flood them with Your perfect love that casts out all fear.
Lord, we pray for the strength to forgive, not in their own power but through the empowerment of Your Holy Spirit. Remind them that forgiveness is an act of obedience and a pathway to their own freedom. Break the power of the enemy’s lies that seek to keep them bound to the past. Let them walk in the truth that they are Your beloved child, redeemed and set apart for Your purposes.
We renounce every curse, every word spoken against them, and every spiritual stronghold that has tried to take root in their life. By the blood of Jesus, we declare that they are free indeed. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and let them experience the fullness of Your restoration. Let them rise up as a mighty warrior in Your kingdom, breaking cycles of sin and walking in the victory that Christ has already won.
We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
Finally, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Surround yourself with a community of believers who can stand with you in this season. If you have not already, consider speaking with a pastor or biblical counselor who can help you walk through this process of healing and forgiveness. You are not alone in this—the body of Christ is with you, and most importantly, the Lord Himself is your strength and your shield. Keep pressing into Him, and He will bring beauty from these ashes.
