Breaking chains. Forgiveness.

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Parent had a massive gambling problem demanded that I use my hard-earned money to play lotto. The parent refused help for the problem and I believe that they traded their soul for fast gain money. One day the parent snatched something out of my hands when I refused to support their habit. In the deathbed they confessed participation in lodges and other occult practices. I feel like I am the only one in the family to stand against those practices and I refuse to repeat the cycle. The parent died blaming me for everything that was wrong in their life and said it was better if they didn’t have me. There was no closure. Father in Jesus name please provide your healing balm. I believe that the parent's death was a way that the Lord freed me from bondage. My parent was an idol and the Lord hates idolatry. I'm working in forgiveness and need your prayers in Jesus name.

We stand with you in this deep and painful struggle, and we lift you up before the Lord, knowing that He is the God of all comfort who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Your testimony is one of resilience in the face of spiritual warfare, and we commend you for recognizing the idolatry and occult influences that sought to ensnare your family. The Lord has indeed set you free from bondage, and though the wounds run deep, His grace is sufficient to bring restoration.

The Scriptures remind us in **Ezekiel 18:20 (WEB)**, *"The soul who sins, he shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son."* Your parent’s choices were their own, and while their words and actions have left scars, you are not responsible for their sins. The Lord sees your heart and your refusal to repeat this cycle—this is a testament to your faith and obedience to Him.

Yet forgiveness is not optional for the believer. **Colossians 3:13 (WEB)** commands, *"bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do."* Forgiveness does not mean excusing their sin or pretending the pain never existed. Instead, it is releasing the debt they owe you into God’s hands, trusting Him to be the just Judge. It is also breaking the chains of bitterness that the enemy would use to keep you bound. **Hebrews 12:15 (WEB)** warns, *"looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it."*

Your parent’s deathbed confession reveals the spiritual strongholds they were under, but you must not allow their words to define your worth. You are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, and His love for you is not based on your parent’s approval or rejection. **Psalm 27:10 (WEB)** declares, *"When my father and my mother forsake me, then Yahweh will take me up."* The Lord has taken you as His own, and He is your true Father—one who will never leave you nor forsake you.

We also recognize the generational curses at work here, but we stand on the promise of **Galatians 3:13 (WEB)**, *"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us."* In Christ, you are no longer under the power of those curses. The blood of Jesus has broken every chain, and you have the authority to renounce the enemy’s claims over your life. Speak aloud if you must: *"I break every generational curse in the name of Jesus. I renounce the sins of idolatry, occult involvement, and rebellion that have plagued my family. I claim the blood of Jesus over my life and declare that I am a new creation in Christ."*

As for closure, remember that true peace comes not from your parent’s words but from the Prince of Peace Himself. **Philippians 4:6-7 (WEB)** assures us, *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* The Lord is your closure. He is the one who validates your pain and who will restore what the locusts have eaten.

Now, let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of Your child, who has endured deep wounds at the hands of their parent. Lord, You see the pain, the rejection, and the spiritual battles they have faced. We thank You that You have set them free from bondage and that You are breaking every chain of generational sin in their life. Father, we ask that You would pour out Your healing balm upon their heart. Where there is bitterness, replace it with Your love. Where there is anger, fill them with Your peace. Where there is fear, flood them with Your perfect love that casts out all fear.

Lord, we pray for the strength to forgive, not in their own power but through the empowerment of Your Holy Spirit. Remind them that forgiveness is an act of obedience and a pathway to their own freedom. Break the power of the enemy’s lies that seek to keep them bound to the past. Let them walk in the truth that they are Your beloved child, redeemed and set apart for Your purposes.

We renounce every curse, every word spoken against them, and every spiritual stronghold that has tried to take root in their life. By the blood of Jesus, we declare that they are free indeed. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and let them experience the fullness of Your restoration. Let them rise up as a mighty warrior in Your kingdom, breaking cycles of sin and walking in the victory that Christ has already won.

We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.

Finally, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Surround yourself with a community of believers who can stand with you in this season. If you have not already, consider speaking with a pastor or biblical counselor who can help you walk through this process of healing and forgiveness. You are not alone in this—the body of Christ is with you, and most importantly, the Lord Himself is your strength and your shield. Keep pressing into Him, and He will bring beauty from these ashes.

We're here with you, standing in the gap, lifting you up before the Lord. We know the pain of feeling unheard, unvalued, even blamed for the actions of others. It's not fair, and it's not right. But we find comfort in knowing that God sees us, He hears us, and He's working all things together for our good and His glory.

We're reminded of the story of Joseph, sold into slavery by his own brothers, yet he said, "You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good" (Genesis 50:20). Your parent's actions were evil, but God is using it for your good, to shape you, to strengthen you, to show you His faithfulness.

We pray that you would find peace in knowing that God sees your heart, your resilience, your refusal to repeat the cycles of sin. We pray that you would find healing in the knowledge that you are not responsible for your parent's sins. Their choices were their own, and their words, though painful, do not define your worth.

We pray for the strength to forgive, not because they deserve it, but because we are commanded to. Forgiveness is not about excusing their sin, but about releasing it into God's hands. It's about breaking the chains of bitterness that would keep you bound. We pray for the grace to forgive, to let go, to trust that God is the just judge.

We pray for healing, for the wounds to be bound up, for the broken heart to be mended. We pray for the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, to guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus.

And we pray for you to find your identity not in your parent's approval or rejection, but in Christ. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, a masterpiece of God's creation. He loves you, He sees you, and He's with you every step of the way.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for allowing us the sacred honor of lifting you and your heart before the Father in these past days. The weight of generational sin, betrayal, and the wounds from a parent’s choices is a burden no one should carry alone, and we are grateful you invited us to stand with you in prayer as you seek healing and break free from these chains.

The enemy has sought to use this pain to isolate you, to make you feel as though you are the only one standing against darkness in your family—but we declare over you that *you are not alone*. The Lord sees your faithfulness, your refusal to bow to idolatry, and your courage to forgive even when the wound is deep. That confession on their deathbed was not just an admission of sin; it was evidence that God was exposing the darkness so His light could prevail. You are right to recognize that their passing was, in God’s sovereignty, a severing of bondage over your life. The Lord *hates* what was done to you, and He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). He is your Father now—perfect, faithful, and free from the greed and deception that marked your earthly parent’s life.

Forgiveness is a journey, not a single moment, and we want you to know we are still here, interceding for you as you walk it out. If the Lord has begun to bring peace, restoration, or even small glimpses of His redemption in this, we would love to rejoice with you in a praise report. If the pain still feels heavy, if the lies of blame or shame creep back in, or if new layers of this battle surface, we urge you to share it with us again. Let us continue to contend for your freedom, for the Lord to replace every stolen thing with His goodness, and for His truth to silence the enemy’s accusations.

You are not responsible for your parent’s choices, nor are you bound by their curses. The blood of Jesus has already spoken a better word over you (Hebrews 12:24). We pray that as you press into Him, He will reveal Himself as your Deliverer, your Healer, and the Father who will *never* demand your destruction for His gain. May He flood you with His presence, remind you of your identity in Christ, and lead you into deeper freedom as you surrender this to Him—again and always.

We are praying for you, beloved. Keep seeking Him. He is faithful. In Jesus’ name.
