It distorts God’s design for intimacy, fuels lust, and separates us from the purity Christ died to secure for us. But the good news is that in Christ, there is freedom! "If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36). Your milestone is not just a number, it is evidence of God’s grace at work in you. Do not despise the small beginnings; every day without giving in is a victory won by His strength, not yours.

We rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell him this struggle is hopeless or that he is defined by his past. In the name of Jesus, we declare that he is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), washed clean by the blood of Christ. Break every chain of addiction, Lord, and replace his desires with a hunger for Your Word and Your presence.
Father, we ask that You would surround him with godly men who can encourage and support him. Give him the courage to seek accountability and the humility to receive it. Guard his heart and mind, and let him experience the freedom that comes from living in obedience to You.
We pray for healing in his thought life, that his mind would be transformed by Your truth. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in purity and holiness. And Lord, we ask that You would use his testimony to bring glory to Your name, that others may see Your power at work in his life.

The smoke of the love of sin blinds our mental eyes. Your desire was often father to your conclusion, you thought you were judging fairly but you were really pandering to your baser nature. This fog you feel is the natural consequence of feeding the carnal mind. You have been living upon the meat of Egypt, and now you wonder that your soul is lean.
We shall never be able to reach the thoughts and things of God while we persist in judging after the sight of the eyes, according to the measure of an earth-bound, carnal mind. But be of good cheer. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. His thoughts toward you are precious, constant, kind, tender, they are not the thoughts of a taskmaster counting your days with a whip.
He has found a ransom. The leaves of the Gospel Tree, when taken as medicine, penetrate the mind and search the heart. The least thing about Christ is healing. Fix your gaze not upon the calendar of your abstinence but upon the Sun of Righteousness.
As you breathe the atmosphere of the skies in prayer and feed upon His Word, your youth shall be renewed like the eagle's. The deliverance must be worked by the hand and outstretched arm of Jehovah alone. When He grants pardon, healing comes with it. Then you shall no longer have need to say, "I am sick."

You speak of a milestone, counting the days since you last fell, and you wonder when your mind will clear. But set aside the anxious reckoning of time. The mind is not healed by adding up days, any more than a man who desires to fly extinguishes that absurd wish by building wings. The cure comes by convincing the soul that it chases after impossibilities. Lust is never satisfied by indulgence, and its fog is not lifted simply by white-knuckle abstinence. You must draw your mind away from the desire itself, persuading it that what it seeks is empty, beneath the dignity for which God made you.
Think of your mind as a field. When you fed it with those images, you trampled the soil and sowed thorns. Now cast the fire of the Spirit among those thorns. Let the word of God enter deeply, not just by hearing once, but by constant, patient listening. You may feel insensible now, as if nothing grows. But do not despair. I have seen a tree receive ten blows and stand firm, yet fall at last by an eleventh. It was not that single stroke that felled it, but the ten before. So with you: every prayer, every Scripture read, every resisted temptation, is a blow against that tree of passion. You perceive no change, but the root is weakening. Then suddenly, the mind clears and bears fruit. You ask what day your thinking will return. I cannot give you a calendar, but I am fully persuaded it will return, provided you do not cease the struggle. God, who supplies seed to the sower, will multiply your seed for righteousness and increase the fruits of your peace.
But while you wait, do not fast only from images while feasting on other vices. What use is outward abstinence if your mind is full of pride, judgment, or vainglory? The children of the bridegroom cannot fast when the bridegroom is with them. Christ is with you, a physician and a bridegroom, not a taskmaster. His presence brings joy. So do not fix your eyes so gloomily on the days that you forget to rejoice that you are His. Be perfected by filling up what is lacking: practice charity, meekness, forgiveness. Live in peace with those around you, and the God of love and peace shall be with you. When your heart is thus reconciled, when inner enmity ceases and you willingly turn to Him, the fog lifts. It lifts not by your tedious counting, but by the warmth of His grace burning away the mist.
You were alienated in your mind, an enemy through evil works, but He has reconciled you in the body of His flesh through death. That reconciliation is not offered to the deserving only; even those who ran away of their own will He draws back. But you must cooperate. Do not lie exposed by the wayside for every thought to trample, but enter into the sheltered places of prayer and holy reading. Though you have heard these things ten times and remained insensible, yet at one hearing you may be converted. It will seem sudden, but it is the accumulation of all God’s work in you. Therefore, be comforted. The return of your mind is not in vain if you rouse yourself. Repentance is not cut off for those who have fallen, even after great struggles. You may have tasted the Spirit, endured conflict, and yet stumbled; still, if you will shake off drowsiness and recover yourself, it is not in vain. So I bid you: be of the same mind as the Church, live in peace with your brethren, and let the joy of a clean conscience grow quietly. The mental clarity you seek is the fruit of a soul at rest in Christ, not a function of a calendar. Lay hold on that, and the days will cease to torment you.
