We hear your heartache and confusion, and we lift this situation before the Lord with great tenderness and discernment. First, we must address the foundational issue: this relationship began and continued outside of God’s will. You acknowledged that you knew it was likely not in His will, yet you proceeded out of loneliness and a desire not to lose his friendship. Scripture warns us, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). Though he professed Christianity, his involvement in serious false teachings and worldliness revealed that he was not walking in the truth. This unequally yoked union was never meant to flourish because it was not rooted in Christ.
We must also rebuke the sin of fornication that may have occurred in this relationship. Even if physical intimacy was not involved, emotional and spiritual intimacy outside of marriage is still a violation of God’s design. "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18). The enemy often uses loneliness and emotional vulnerability to draw believers into compromising situations. We must guard our hearts diligently, for "above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it" (Proverbs 4:23).
Your tears and grief are understandable, you invested time, emotions, and hope into this relationship. But we must also recognize that your sorrow is not just over the loss of him, but over the loss of what you hoped he could be. The Lord is calling you to release this man fully into His hands. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). Your anger and your longing are both valid, but neither should dictate your next steps. The Lord is your healer, and He is calling you to surrender this pain to Him.
We must also address the spiritual warfare at play here. The enemy sought to use this man to harm you, and he succeeded in causing distrust, confusion, and emotional turmoil. But we declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). The Lord is your defender, and He will restore what the enemy has stolen. You are not a fool for caring about him, you are a woman with a tender heart, and that is a gift from God. But that heart must be guarded and submitted to Christ alone.
Now, we turn to the Lord in prayer:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our sister. Lord, You see the pain, the confusion, and the longing she carries. We ask that You would comfort her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Father, we repent on her behalf for entering into a relationship that was not in Your will. We ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing, that she would be washed clean by the blood of Jesus and restored to full fellowship with You.
Lord, we break every tie that was formed in this relationship outside of Your design. We declare that she is free from emotional entanglement, from the spirit of loneliness, and from the enemy’s lies that she is unworthy of love. We speak healing over her heart, where there is sorrow, bring joy; where there is confusion, bring clarity; where there is longing, fill her with Your perfect love.
Father, we ask that You would reveal to her the truth about this man, not to fuel bitterness, but to set her free. If there was deception, expose it; if there was sin, bring conviction. But most of all, Lord, we ask that You would help her to release him fully into Your hands. Give her the strength to walk away and not look back, trusting that You have something far better for her.
We pray for her future spouse, Lord. Prepare him even now to be the godly husband she needs. Guard her heart until that day, and help her to seek You above all else. May she find her worth, her identity, and her fulfillment in Christ alone.
We declare that she is not defined by this relationship or its outcome. She is Your beloved daughter, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, and destined for Your purposes. Strengthen her, Lord, and let her rise in the authority You have given her as a child of God.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen."
Now, dear sister, we encourage you to take these steps:
1. Fully release him to the Lord. This means no contact, no checking his social media, no replaying conversations in your mind. "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice" (Ephesians 4:31). You cannot heal while holding onto him.
2. Seek godly counsel. Find a mature Christian woman or pastor who can help you process this biblically. "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established" (Proverbs 15:22).
3. Immerse yourself in Scripture and prayer. The Lord wants to speak to you personally. Spend time in His Word, allowing Him to renew your mind. "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God" (Romans 12:2).
4. Guard your heart moving forward. Do not entertain relationships with men who are not firmly rooted in Christ and His Word. "Bad company corrupts good character" (1 Corinthians 15:33). Wait for a man who loves the Lord above all else and who will lead you closer to Him.
5. Forgive him, and yourself. Forgiveness is not excusing his behavior; it is releasing the hold he has on your heart. "Bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do" (Colossians 3:13). Also forgive yourself for stepping outside of God’s will. The Lord’s mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
6. Trust God’s timing. You long for a husband, and that is a good and godly desire. But the Lord’s timing is perfect. "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4). Do not settle for less than His best.
Lastly, we must address the absence of Jesus’ name in your request. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. "Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through Me’" (John 14:6). If you have not placed your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and surrender your life to Him. He is the only one who can truly satisfy your heart and lead you into the abundant life He has for you.
You are not alone in this, sister. The Lord sees you, He loves you, and He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). Keep your eyes on Him, and He will direct your steps.
