Boyfriend and bonus

Please pray about this: my boyfriend earned a bonus at work but it has not been paid out to him at all. He brought this up with his manager and the manager claimed that the proof of him earning the bonus may have been deleted out of the system and asked him for proof that he hadn't received it and that he had earned it. He submitted that proof and his manager still hasn't gotten back to him in days. He and I trained together with a large group at this job (we work together; we work at a huge company that is nationally known) and myself and others who started at the job at the same time have seemingly all not heard anything ourselves about the bonuses that WE earned either. My boyfriend earned the biggest bonus out of all of us and possibly out of the whole company during the period that he earned it. Please pray about all this. I'm not sure if the company doesn't have the funds to pay us or what. I looked up the company's reviews and apparently other employees in other departments have not been paid for bonuses they earned either. This company has a lot of potential but is run terribly. My boyfriend has health conditions and cannot handle a lot of stress. Although he is excelling at this job, I have been praying that God would lead him to another less stressful job opportunity that would allow him to, Lordwilling, meet the professional goals he wants to meet. He told me yesterday that his old job reached out to him to recruit him to come back and they'd be paying him more than what we earn at our current job and offering him a very large bonus. He's prayerfully considering it. Please pray about all this. Thank you.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation to Him in the mighty name of Jesus. Father, we know that You are a God of justice and provision, and we ask that You would move powerfully on behalf of this young man and all those who have rightfully earned their bonuses. The Word tells us in Colossians 4:1, "Masters, give to your servants that which is just and equal, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven." Lord, we pray that You would stir the hearts of those in authority at this company to do what is right and honorable. If there has been negligence, dishonesty, or mismanagement, we ask that You would expose it and bring about swift resolution.

We also lift up the stress and anxiety this situation has caused, especially for this young man who carries the added burden of health conditions. Father, Your Word assures us in Philippians 4:6-7, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." We pray that You would grant him Your perfect peace as he waits and seeks Your will. We rebuke the spirit of anxiety and stress in Jesus' name, and we declare that he will not be overwhelmed by this trial.

We are grateful to hear that his former employer has reached out with a potential opportunity that could alleviate some of this burden. Lord, we ask that You would guide his steps and give him clarity as he prayerfully considers this offer. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." We pray that You would open the right doors and close the wrong ones, leading him to a position where he can thrive both professionally and spiritually.

Now, we must address a matter of great importance. The relationship described here as "boyfriend" does not align with God’s design for relationships as outlined in Scripture. The Bible is clear that the purpose of romantic relationships is to pursue marriage, as seen in Genesis 2:24, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be one flesh." Courtship should always be entered into with the intention of marriage, and sexual intimacy is reserved solely for the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman (Hebrews 13:4). We encourage you both to seek the Lord’s will in this relationship and to honor Him by aligning your lives with His Word. If this relationship is not moving toward marriage, it may be wise to reconsider its foundation.

Father, we also want to remind this dear sister that our access to You is only through the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If she has not yet surrendered her life to Jesus, we pray that she would come to know Him as her Lord and Savior. For those who believe, we are called to pray in His name, for Jesus Himself said in John 14:13-14, "Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it." We pray all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus.

Lord, we ask that You would provide for this young man and all those who have been wronged by this company. We pray for financial breakthrough and for Your justice to prevail. We also ask that You would lead him to a job that not only meets his professional goals but also allows him to serve You with his whole heart. May he and this sister seek You first in all things, trusting that You will add all these things unto them (Matthew 6:33). We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that You will turn this situation around for their good and Your glory.

We’d encourage him to weigh that honestly before the Lord, and for you both to watch for whether this season is less about fighting for what’s owed and more about being led out.

Jesus, we bring this tangled mess to you, unpaid wages, ignored proof, stress pressing on a body that can’t afford it. We ask you to intervene: make the truth known, move whoever needs to act, and release what has been earned. But more than that, we ask for clear direction. Show this man the path you have for him, one that uses his gifts and doesn’t crush his health. Give him peace as he weighs the offer before him, and give her steady confidence as she stands beside him. Guard them both from resentment and fear. We trust you with the outcome, in your name. The withholding of wages that are justly due is a sore trial, a burden that bows down the spirit. Yet in this very hour, let faith lift your eyes above the shifting shadows of earth. All the days of your appointed time, wait till your change comes. The Lord's delays are not denials; He has a set season for the fulfillment of His purposes, and no machination of man or failing of a broken system can hasten or hinder it by a single hour. Though the company’s records may vanish and the manager’s memory prove hollow, the books of Heaven are kept with unfailing precision, and the blood-bought child of God shall at last receive a recompense that makes the best earthly bonus a trifling thing.

Beware of charging God foolishly in the bitterness of the moment. When the enemy whispers that all is chaos and injustice reigns, remember Job, who under a far heavier stroke, sinned not, nor murmured against the Most High. May Divine Grace hold you and your beloved in this hour, that no unworthy speech escapes your lips. It is the mark of a gracious spirit to yield because you trust, to say in the deep of the night, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” This is a faith that shines brightest when every earthly prop gives way.

I would not speak as Bildad with uninspired words that ring hollow, yet it is true that the end of the Lord is full of restoration. Job’s latter end was greater than his beginning; the Lord turned his captivity when he prayed for his friends. Pray, then, with a large heart—not merely for your own need, but for those who have dealt harshly, for the managers and for all who labor under that roof. Intercessory prayer is the divine channel that unlocks the springs of love hidden in the mountains of promise. Who knows but that as you plead for others, the captivity of your own household shall suddenly cease?

Be not at all dismayed by the report of other unpaid servants, for God’s resources are not bounded by a company’s coffers. He can make windows in heaven and pour out a blessing beyond all we ask. Even now, the summons from the former employer, with its pledge of greater increase and a generous bonus, may be the whisper of Providence, a door swung wide by the Master’s hand. Yet I counsel not a hasty flight. In patience possess your souls. Job’s renewal came not in the whirlwind of his own contriving, but in the calm after the tempest, when he had met with God. Lay the matter before the throne, and let not the fear of stress drive you before the pillar of cloud has moved. He whose glory was fresh in him and then spent a season in the ashes was yet sustained, and so shall you be.

Should the path lead back to the old post, go with a song of praise. Should it tarry here, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. The truest change, the one for which we wait with a waiter’s patient eye, is not a mere exchange of uniform, but that final, blessed transformation that shall make us like our Lord forever. Until that day, every earthly shift is but a momentary appointment, a small allotment of your appointed time. Wait upon the Lord. He is just, He is tender, He will not give to the faint a portion of stones.

The matters you bring are heavy indeed, and I join in prayer that the laborer would receive his wages and not be defrauded. But remember that earthly bonuses and promotions are like stubble before the fire; they will be proved on the last Day. Far better to build with gold and silver, true virtue, than to set one’s heart on money that vanishes like smoke. For the man you speak of, I pray God grants relief from stress and opens a door to honest, peaceful work, if it be His will. Yet let him not chase money as his foremost good; let him first store up what no flame can destroy.

As for the company’s injustice, groan not against it as though wrong had a final word. The One who elected you will justify; who can lay a charge against His own? But lay your own life bare: are you both living in a manner that befits citizens of heaven, not fashioned after this world’s fleeting customs? The forty days of repentance are not a game; the sacred cup is for the holy. Examine yourselves while time remains, for natural things change, and health of soul may be lost through neglect.

I will pray that the man’s health holds firm and that wisdom guides his choice of labor, but far more, I pray you both flee from the madness of worldly care and loose the bonds of sin. The blessed martyr Babylas treasured his chains for Christ’s sake; shall we then fret over a delayed bonus? Let your souls be solid in the science of virtue, and all these storms will grow calm. May the Lord have mercy and bring you to that quiet harbor where true riches are kept.

And in the middle of it all, a quiet whisper that maybe there is something better. I have been praying for you both, and I want to hold this up to a light that never flickers.

The adversary has an old argument. He looks at a man or woman who walks uprightly and says, “They only trust God because things go well. Let hardship come, and that trust will shatter.” That accusation was made about a man long ago, a man who lost far more than a paycheck. Yet that man, crushed under grief he could not explain, fell on his face and worshipped. The one who tried to destroy his faith did not know that God had already set a boundary around his life, a boundary that could only be crossed by divine permission. So the trouble came not as random cruelty but as something measured, something that in the hands of a wise God could refine and not ruin.

You asked for prayer about the unpaid bonus. I am asking the Lord to bring what is hidden into the light. But more than that, I am asking Him to root your hope somewhere the company’s payroll system cannot touch. If earthly records vanish, the justice of God does not. If managers delay, the Lord who sees secret things is never slow. Keep doing what is right: follow up, document carefully, advocate for what was promised. But let your peace come not from the check hitting the bank but from the One who holds all resources.

The stress and the health concerns weigh heavily. I hear that. When the body is fragile, the weight of injustice feels heavier. Yet in the old story, the hardest blow came not from enemies but from friends who insisted that suffering must mean hidden sin. They offered quick formulas: get right with God and everything will be fine. They were wrong. The man they accused was upright, though he did not understand his own trial. Do not let anyone, not even the accusing voice in your own head, tell you that this trouble is a sign that God has abandoned you or that you are being punished. The Lord’s own testimony about His servant was “perfect and upright, one who fears God and shuns evil.” The trial did not contradict that; it proved it.

Now, when the old job reaches out with a generous offer, that is not a coincidence. I am not saying it is a divine guarantee, but it is surely worth prayerful attention. The God who limits the waves also opens doors. Your boyfriend has been excelling where he is, but a place where his health is guarded and his labor valued is not a lesser path. I would encourage him to weigh this with a quiet heart, not fleeing stress in panic but walking toward whatever provision the Lord is setting before you. Ask for wisdom, and then act with confidence that your steps are held.

I remember how that ancient sufferer, in the middle of his grief, declared that when God had tried him he would come forth as gold. He did not know the outcome. He had no promise his possessions would be restored. But he clung to the character of God when circumstances screamed otherwise. That is the patience we ask for you both: not stoic resignation but a living trust that refuses to curse the darkness.

So we commit this to the Lord. The missing wages, the sluggish company, the worrying reviews, the health limitations, the new opportunity. We ask that what is rightfully his comes to him swiftly, that if it does not, a better path opens clearly, and that through it all your household tastes the reality that the Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be His name. Do not fret. Do not build your confidence on what a corporation can do. Build it on the rock that never shifts.
