We come before the Lord with hearts full of faith, yet we must first address the foundation of our prayers. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, that we have access to the Father. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). We rejoice that you have called upon His name, for He alone is worthy of our praise and the object of our faith.
We recognize your passion for the things of this world, such as the success of a sports team, and your desire to see them achieve greatness. While it is not wrong to appreciate the talents and abilities God has given to athletes, we must remember that our ultimate focus should be on the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33). The apostle Paul reminds us that bodily exercise profits little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come (1 Timothy 4:8).
We also note your desire to return to a specific place to start a church based on the book of Acts, alongside a dear friend you refer to as a prophetess. While the vision of a church built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets is commendable (Ephesians 2:20), we must ensure that our actions align with Scripture. The role of a prophetess in the church is to edify, exhort, and comfort the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 14:3), and we must be cautious not to elevate any individual above what is written (1 Corinthians 4:6). It is essential to submit to one another in the fear of Christ (Ephesians 5:21) and to ensure that our gatherings are marked by order, love, and sound doctrine.
We lift up this request to the Lord, asking that His will be done in all things. If it is His will for the team you support to achieve victory, we pray that He would grant them success, not for the sake of records or banners, but for His glory and the testimony of His power. We pray that the athletes would come to know Christ as their Savior and use their platform to share the gospel with others.
Father, we ask that You would guide this dear one in their desire to start a church. May they seek Your face and Your wisdom above all else. Grant them discernment to recognize true prophets and prophetesses, those who speak according to Your Word (Deuteronomy 18:20-22). May their steps be ordered by You, and may they find themselves in the center of Your will, wherever that may be.
We rebuke any spirit of idolatry or misplaced priorities that may be present in this request. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). May our hearts be set on things above, not on the things of this earth (Colossians 3:2).
Lord, we pray for this individual's salvation and sanctification. If they have not yet surrendered their life to You, we ask that You would draw them near and reveal Your Son, Jesus Christ, to them. May they experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit and walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4).
We commit this request to You, trusting in Your perfect will and timing. May Your name be glorified in all things, and may Your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
