Your prayer for boldness and confidence is a right and scriptural desire, and I rejoice to hear it from you. The Scripture itself invites you to this very thing, for we are exhorted, Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
This boldness does not spring from any confidence in yourself. Self confidence must go when confidence in Christ comes in. Great faith takes Jesus only as her basis, while little faith tries to add thereto some confidence in self, or in prayers, or in works. If you would have true boldness, you must look away from self altogether. Always pray with your windows open towards Calvary. Look upon the precious blood. Gaze steadfastly upon the risen Lord. There you see your right to come, for through faith in Jesus Christ you are made a child of God, and a child may come boldly to his Father's throne.
Remember Daniel, who when he knew the writing was signed, still kneeled upon his knees three times a day and prayed with his windows open. His love to his God rested deep in his inmost heart and had become part and parcel of himself, and being sustained by the two hands of love and faith he was graciously lifted over the rough and thorny places. So shall it be with you. Faith will guard both head and heart. It is your shield. See to your faith above all things, and see that it is all of one piece, resting wholly upon the finished work of Christ, with no confidence in yourself.
You must ask in faith, nothing wavering, for he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. The Holy Spirit has been given to teach us how to pray, and to work in us the principles of faith that sustain in the time of trial. Be of good courage, even if your faith feels but little and weak as yet. Little faith may be sick on board the vessel, but the vessel itself is safe and you will get to shore as surely as great faith will, for Christ holds the rope and pulls you to shore.
May the Lord increase your faith, and with it give you holy boldness to come, to ask, to stand, and to act for Him. May you be enabled to say, God can deliver me, but if He does not deliver me, still I am well content to be found faithful for Jesus sake. And may you walk in Him whom you have received, acting as one who is saved, with joy and confidence and holy courage, to the praise of His grace.
